To the one who loves her next, she’s terrified of spiders. So when you’re out late with friends and she texts you freaking out because there’s one on her window, please go kill it. She won’t sleep otherwise. She is a total textbook introvert. She won’t reply for hours and sometimes you won’t see her for a week. You will take this personally. Don’t. She’s simply taking care of herself and she’ll tell you how much she missed you while she was away. She’ll get very jealous. My god, she gets so jealous. Those brown eyes will turn a deep green. She hates that about herself, and she doesn’t mean to do it. Remember, she loves you. Reassure her that you love her too. On that topic, she needs constant reassurance. Tell her you love her and mean it. If you can’t do that, leave. She deserves more than that. There will be nights when she goes out and drinks a little too much. She’ll call you to bring her home. When you do, she’ll try to keep you up all night by tickling you and repeating “I love you and I’m sorry I’m annoying.” She’s not annoying. But make sure she has plenty of water and don’t let her pass out until she drinks it, or she will be miserable in the morning. She is the most independent woman I know. But she’s so insecure, it still breaks my heart. So when she starts an argument with “you don’t love me.” Do not get upset. Remind her you do and the reasons why. She’ll come around. The cat comes first. Always. Don’t ever think otherwise. Make her tea and remember the way she takes her coffee. She will notice. When she’s having an anxiety attack, wrap her up in your arms and rub her back. Tell her she’s safe and remind her that she has medication if she needs it. If you cannot treat her like royalty, let someone else. That girl deserves the world. Losing her is a pain you will never shake. Your world will come crashing down on you and those pieces won’t ever fit the way they used to. Don’t let her go. She will love you with all she’s got. Please give her the same. I am begging you to not hurt her. She is golden. Don’t let that shine die out. Give her your all and she’ll return the favor. You will never have to ask the universe for anything ever again.

I still think my hips are too big. And some nights the sadness is overwhelming, And some days I don’t want to get out of bed. But I do. I get out of bed. I eat my breakfast, and I pack my lunch. I choose food I like instead of food with the least amount of calories, and I don’t feel faint at work - I walk tall and strong and I smile at people and sometimes, they smile back. I speak my thoughts and feel my feelings and I’m not afraid to need help. I still need help. Some days I want to stop eating. Some days I cry because my jeans feel too tight. But I bought new jeans, and they look amazing on me. I don’t have a thigh gap anymore. But I do have legs that walk me all over a city as full of wonders as any I have ever seen; a city I chose. I’m living a life I chose. Because I chose to live.

Today marks the first day of Pride 2020.

It also marks the seventh day of protests held in honor of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. It’s been 634 days since Botham Jean was murdered by a police officer, 233 days since Atatiana Jefferson was fatally shot by a police officer, 2,123 days since Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer, and 2,146 days since Eric Garner was choked to death by a police officer.

It has been five days since Tony McDade, a Black trans man from Florida, was shot and killed by a police officer.

At the time of this post, it has been almost 19 hours since David McAtee was shot and killed by the authorities.

This week has served as a stark reminder that those who have power in this country wield it recklessly and violently against Black people, non-Black POC, and trans people. For some, the power is found in their badge. In others, it’s their skin tone, their socio-economic status, their cisgender privileges, or any other number of privileges one can have. In 2018, with at least 26 trans people who were murdered, all but one were trans women, and all but one were people of color. According to data collected by Human Rights Campaign, this pattern is all too common. It should also be noted that the number of trans people who are murdered is grossly underreported, with many families and newspapers often misgendering those who can no longer speak up for themselves.

On June 28, 1969, the Stonewall riots began as a response to the constant police raids of nightlife establishments frequented by the LGBTQIA+ community. That night sparked a revolution, with many eye-witnesses crediting Black and Latinx trans women for being brave enough to ignite what would become one of the most pivotal nights in LGBTQIA+ history. Without Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, there would have been no uprising. Without them, there would be no Pride.

At this moment, it would be tone-deaf and insensitive to commemorate Pride in the same celebratory fashion we usually do. Instead, we’re asking you to make the commitment to better the lives of the oppressed. Do the work to become actively anti-racist if you are not Black. Spread the word that Black lives matter. Spread the word that trans people deserve to feel safe wherever they go. Reblog this post, make your own, or find someone in your life who doesn’t understand and do your best to make them understand. Size Zero

As many children grew up doing, I watched many movies and tv shows as a kid and naturally I aspired to be thin. Now as a much older person, I realize how in most major movies and tv shows, the main character just happens to be super thin. I recognize that I will never be that iconic thin person who everyone loves. Recently, the sister of a very close friend of mine tried to commit suicide because she had been body shamed for most of her life. This broke my heart because I don’t think that we as a human race should care what others think of us. Don’t get me wrong, there are times when I feel like trash. Especially when I change for gym class, and see all the other girls with their perfect figures. It hurts that I will probably never be like them. It hurts a lot, but at the end of the day, you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit. As I write this with tears filling my eyes for all those people who have been negatively affected by this, I write to them, you matter. We need you with us, We love you just the way you are.
