A Night Fantasy

Okay a dumb question… every time I try to open anyone’s tumblr page, it says it “may contain sensitive data” and doesn’t let me - including my own!  Any idea how to get past this?

I’ve been on tumblr for about five years now. The announcement yesterday that tumblr was going to ban all adult content was shocking, yet I’m sure many of us wondered if it was coming to this since apple had removed the app. I’ve felt so many different feelings since yesterday, but the one that keeps bubbling to the surface is sadness.

I’m sad because I’m already feeling the loss of my community. For years I struggled to understand who I am. When I discovered tumblr, I found my people. People who helped me learn about myself, being submissive and even being a better person. My community welcomed me. You all have made me feel safe in exploring things outside the “norm”. My community has been there to answer questions, to encourage, and to love. For that I thank each of you.

I’m sad because my place to freely express my thoughts and desires has decided that my thoughts and desires aren’t acceptable here anymore. Tumblr has been more than porn for me. I can find porn on many sites as pointed out by the powers that be. However, here I’ve been able to see the beauty found in submission. I’ve learned that the word submit isn’t dirty and doesn’t mean that someone is weak. I’ve seen how every woman of every shape, size, and color is worthy of love. I’ve learned acceptance of others through reading the stories written and stories told through photography.

I’m sad because my examples of D/s relationships will be going away. There are many couples who have shared the ups and downs of making a D/s relationship work in real life. They’ve taught me that it’s not all blowjobs and spankings. Instead they’ve shared stories about overcoming long distance, having kids in this dynamic, the bad days when D/s seems to be a struggle and overall the importance of communicating with each other. The honesty has been raw and real at times. I’ve felt their struggles and celebrated their successes. Many probably don’t realize the impact they’ve had on me and many others here, but without them I would still be questioning of what I want actually can exist.

I’m mostly sad because I’ve met some amazing men and women here and many of those connections will end. Friendships have developed over the years that I hold closer to my heart than those who I see on a day-to-day basis. Those friendships have impacted me on so many levels. Some have been submissives who I see as role models. Some have been men who have shown me the characteristics of strong, caring men/dominants and have set the bar high for any man coming into my life. And yes, some of those relationships have developed into love. While not all of those relationships lasted, I appreciate the time we spent together because I’ve been able to grow through the joys and the heartbreak. I will stay in touch with some of the wonderful men and women I’ve met here , but overall, we’ve lost our place to connect on common ground and I know many will move on in search of their new community.

The Official “Log Off” Protest F.A.Q! 

The “Log Off” protest is in response to the recent NSFW ban announced by Tumblr. The ban flags all content the filtering system detects as NSFW, reducing visibility to the community. The system has proven time and time again that is inefficient, oftentimes flagging SFW material as NSFW. 

This SFW material includes art, memes and so on. This ban directly hurts the community and will not solve the actual problems at hand due to the poor flagging system. Because of this, the entire community will suffer.  

So to respond, I propose that every user on Tumblr logs off of Tumblr for 24 hours on December 17th at 12 am EST.

The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.

To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.

On the 17th, dead silence.

People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.

But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.

What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’

A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.

If you want to join in, here’s what to do:

Do:

Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th

Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad

Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion

Come back on the 18th and check in

Don’t:

Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)

Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.

Open the app or website (including specific blogs)

Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)

Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.

Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
