okay so like. okay. persona 3 spoilers under the cut
the answer’s whole Thing is about the mc, your previous character, having passed on after the defeat of nyx in the base game. everyone gets called over for a farewell party to the dorm (this’ll be important later) and they get trapped in a time loop until they can deal with the choice between bringing minato back from the dead, or moving on with his memory. every character is okay with the latter, except for one, yukari.
why yukari? well, her character is extremely tied to p3′s mc. you walk into the house during the dark hour and the first sight you get of yukari is her pointing her evoker at the protagonist, even though she knew it wouldn’t do anything. why? as we see from the cutscene from before, she was trying desperately to get her persona to come out, but she couldn’t come to terms with pulling the evoker’s trigger, which is a placebo that causes your persona to manifest. yukari can’t handle bringing that part of herself, and is only able to after she sees minato face the first boss of the game and standing up with his evoker
that moment gave her a glimmer of hope to herself, especially after she heard about the loss of his parents, which she could relate to with her late father and overbearing, uncaring mother. she gains an attachment to minato extremely quickly, especially because he’s the only person her age at the dorm (with the others being ikutsuki, akihiko, and mitsuru)
yukari begins to face herself, but, something comes up that changes her. she begins to suspect mitsuru due to yukari’s father having used to work with the kirijo group before his death, and that she thinks fuuka was brought into SEES against her will. when she finds out her father was a main reason for the dark hour happening due to his work in the kirijo group, her animosity toward mitsuru reaches a fever pitch, but, after she runs outside, one person comes to console her.
this moment makes her fall in love with him, seeing that someone cared even when she broke completely. after their moment, yukari begins to understand mitsuru as well, someone who was forced into the family and feels an obligation to end the dark hour for her family’s sake. this wraps up during the vacation segment of p3, where yukari fully makes up with mitsuru, learning about how her father truly did love her.
but, not everything could last forever. minato dies in aigis’ arms at the end of the game, and with the dorm closing and her second year of school ending, yukari felt like she was losing everything all over again, especially the things that tied her to the protagonist, so, she’s the only one that goes against everyone else.
she’s consistent in her remarks, and wants to just bring minato back so that she can have those moments all over again, but everyone else, who either hasn’t dealt with death recently, or at all, can’t understand how she feels. she lost her father 10 years ago, and having something like this happen again tore her apart. and, when they all have to fight over the keys, someone who disagrees with yukari still stands by her side.
mitsuru. the person yukari trusted because minato had consoled just those few months ago. even if mitsuru didnt want to bring minato back from the dead, she did want to see yukari happy. but, aigis was eventually able to come through to her, and yukari changed her mind.
yukari is a character that revolves around persona’s main ideas about the connections that people have to eachother, and how one persons life can change anothers completely. no other game in the franchise went through this much effort to show the protagonist mattering to a character like this, and seeing people call her a bad character or a “bitch” because she just wants to see the person she loved again only weeks after he died is just... insensitive.
the answer was good. and i wont let anyone say otherwise.
