please allow me to wax poetic about charden for a hot sec—I need more people to see the potential there. they are strange little mirrors, two sides of the same fucked up coin, overwhelmed by their own feelings, and against all odds just straight up compatible. but not in the way that people often write/see them. painting dennis as this evil megalomaniac in contrast to a silly/dumb/innocent charlie is just. not it. the point of charlie and dennis is that they have this shared trauma that manifested itself in such different ways in both of them. and it rotted parts of them from the inside out. and because of this, they can recognize it in each other and often create this special kind of space for one another that other people can’t. I’ve said it before, they just know how to have fun together. but keeping all of that in mind—they’re both still terrible people. and it’s important to characterize charlie that way bc otherwise it just makes him out to be this helpless fragile little flower being taken advantage of mean old dennis when in reality, he’s extremely aware of what’s going on. he sees through peoples bullshit but he just doesn’t always make that known. especially dennis’ bullshit. anyway anyway I just love charden !!

thinking about that time dennis yelled “look at me when you’re talking to me” at mac. imagining him saying it to charlie but it’s different. softer. accidental. cuz he didn’t mean to say it. it’s just a reflex. under his breath, half hoping charlie doesn’t hear him. but charlie just looks at him with knowing eyes and stares until dennis is the one who needs to look away.
