It’s easier to let God’s law convict than to let His gospel set free. Two great obstacles to joy are guilt and grudge: either we feel guilty about our own sin, or we bear a grudge against someone else. In each case, we fail to grasp the gospel, which teaches that both conditions are entirely unnecessary, for they can readily be healed through forgiveness — either receiving to for ourselves, or extending it to another.

For all the people who love to quote Leviticus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination”, let me offer you this quote also from Leviticus 19:28:

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
