i feel like chickie is such a jellycat lover and literally loves anyone who gets her one
holy crap yes. deadass just opened my third eye cause i too am a jellycat lover.
— chickie is absolutely a jellycat girl like no debate.
— she doesn’t even care if someone gets her one for a special occasion. if someone walks up holding a tiny jellycat and says “i saw this and thought of you,” she’s already emotional.
— her collection started completely accidentally. steph gave her one, then sam noticed how much she loved it, and suddenly she had an entire little family.
— she names every single one and the names are never normal.
— one is probably called “toast.” another is “gerald.” there’s definitely one with an unnecessarily elaborate name like “sir reginald fluffybottom the third.”
— and she talks about them like they’re actual members of her household. “you can’t put him there.” “why?” “he doesn’t like being near the window.” nobody questions it anymore. it’s easier not to.
— her favorite jellycat is the one kyra gave her unexpectedly when she was having a rough day. she keeps that one beside her bed.
— chickie will absolutely stop in front of a jellycat display and go completely silent with her eyes wide and hands clasped. “oh my god.” then she has to inspect every single one. “look at his little face.”“chickie, we’ve been here twenty minutes.” “but look at him.”
— she has zero ability to resist the tiny food-shaped ones. croissant, ravioli, cake, potato, dragonfruit, the list goes on and on. if it’s shaped like food, she’s probably buying it.
— she also loves the weird ones.
— the uglier the jellycat, the more attached she becomes. like that fish one. “look at him.” “he looks like he’s been through something.” “exactly. i love him.”
— anyone who buys her one instantly becomes one of her favorite people. there is absolutely no complicated criteria. “you got me a jellycat? “yeah.”“i love you.” mind you it was the social media adminn that gave it to her on camera a day after chickie scored the tiebreaker the last game
— she will genuinely remember who gave her each one. she’ll know the exact occasion (if there was one), what they were wearing, and what the person said when they gave it to her because chickie attaches memories to objects.
— which means every jellycat becomes a little physical reminder that someone thought about her.
— if someone gets her a jellycat while traveling, she’s even more excited. “you brought this all the way back for me?” suddenly she’s hugging them.“thank you.” “it’s just a plushie.” “no, you thought about me while you were away.”
— fans have caught onto her jellycat obsession and sometimes gift them to her. she’ll eventually take it (with much convincing) and she names them after the fan.
— when her obsession started, she had a dedicated spot on her bed for them which grew until it was basically her whole bed. eventually she realizes she’s run out of room and starts putting them on shelves. then the shelves fill up… then the chair… then the windowsill. at some point she has to stop herself and whisper, “we have a problem.” she does not stop.
— chickie absolutely takes a jellycat with her when she travels. like she has a designated travel jellycat. it’s not the biggest in her collection and it’s probably something small enough to fit in her bag.
— she refuses to explain why. “he’s coming.”“who?” “don’t worry about it.”
— she gets genuinely offended if someone calls them ‘just stuffed animals.’ “they have personalities.” “chickie.” “they do. it’s their magic.”
— she also loves giving jellycats to other people. it’s genuinely one of her love languages. she’s always keeping keeping an eye out for a jellycat for whoever’s next birthday. she’ll walk into a shop months later and go, “oh my god. that’s so them.”
— giving someone a jellycat is basically chickie’s version of saying “i care about you.” and receiving one is basically someone handing her a tiny physical manifestation of affection. which explains why she has absolutely no defense against them.
— marti discovers this very quickly when she brings chickie one from spain. chickie stares at it then at marti with watery eyes. “you got this for me?” “yeah.” “you remembered?” “of course.” chickie hugs her before she can even finish the sentence.
— marti spends the rest of the day smiling like an idiot and chickie doesn’t even realize why. she just happily carries her new jellycat around like she’s been entrusted with a national treasure.
I’m so confused what is the difference between college and university? I was catching up on your recent posts
it’s essentially the same thing but a college is smaller than a university. it’s just in america we call all undergraduate/bachelor obtaining institutions colleges instead of universities/uni even though they are in fact universities (they do bachelor’s, masters, and doctorates.) like i go to a university where it’s blank university but i call it college because that’s the norm.
not to confuse you but within the university there are different colleges. for example the college of humanities and sciences or the college of business.
— chickie and marti’s talking stage is basically marti slowly falling in love while chickie thinks she has simply found a really cool friend.
— marti is fascinated by chickie from the beginning. not just because of how ridiculous she is off the pitch, but because she genuinely cannot believe someone so bubbly can be so technically gifted on the field
— the first time marti watches chickie play properly, she spends half the match just staring chickie catches her afterward and goes, “why were you looking at me like that?” marti, completely caught off guard, says, “because you’re really good.” chickie beams. “oh! thank you!” marti has to stand there for a second because that was absolutely not the response she expected
— chickie starts sending her random photos throughout the day with absolutely no context it could be a weird cloud, a dog wearing shoes, a pastry that looks like a football, a receipt she thinks has funny wording. and marti responds to every single one. sometimes chickie sends “look!!!” followed by a picture and nothing else and marti always knows exactly what she’s supposed to be looking at.
— somehow they develop their own little language without realizing it. chickie learns that marti likes quiet mornings and marti learns that chickie needs approximately seven conversations before breakfast. chickie learns marti hates overly sweet coffee and marti learns chickie will drink literally anything if someone puts whipped cream on it
— their first actual day out with each other is meant to be casual. just food, walking around, and maybe a shop or two but they somehow spend eight hours together and neither wants to go home.
— chickie gets into marti’s car at the end and goes, “that was fun.” marti smiles. “yeah. it was.” chickie looks at her. “we should do it again.” marti nearly drives into a streetlight.
— marti is very chivalrous with her. she opens doors, carries things, waits until chickie is safely inside before driving away.
— chickie finds this incredibly sweet but assumes it’s just because marti was raised that way. “you’re very polite.” “i try.” “you’d make a good butler.”marti just stares at her. “a butler?” “yeah.” “…i was going for girlfriend.” “what?” “nothing.”
— chickie remains blissfully unaware.
— marti compliments her constantly but always finds increasingly creative ways to disguise it. “you look nice today.” “your hair looks really good.” “that color suits you.” “you have a really pretty smile.” chickie responds to every single one with “thanks!”
— ignorance is bliss ig…
— eventually marti just starts staring at her afterward like she’s trying to solve a mathematical equation. chickie once catches her staring. “what?” “nothing.” “you’ve been looking at me for like five minutes.” “i like looking at you.” chickie pauses, “that’s nice,”!and continues eating. marti has never been so defeated in her life
— chickie also has no idea how much marti loves hearing her talk about football. she’ll sit there explaining some tactical idea she had at training, getting increasingly animated and marti doesn’t even interrupt. she just watches chickie’s hands move while she talks
— chickie eventually goes, “sorry, i’m rambling.” “don’t apologize.” “you don’t mind?” “i could listen to you all day.” chickie smiles softly “you’re such a good friend.” marti looks toward the ceiling, “yeah.” she’s fighting for her life
— chickie starts saving little things for marti subconsciously. it ranges from things like a pretty sticker to a funny keychain to a tiny postcard to a candy she thinks marti would like. she’ll casually hand them over and say, “i saw this and thought of you.” marti keeps every single one in a box.
— chickie eventually notices a little box in marti’s room filled with everything she’s ever given her. “why do you have all this?” marti freezes, “because you gave it to me.” “you kept everything?” “of course.” chickie just smiles, completely unaware of how much that answer means
— marti also loves chickie’s junk journals. chickie will spend hours explaining the story behind a random receipt. “this was from the café where we got lost.” “this ticket was from that concert.” “this napkin is from the first restaurant you took me to.”
— marti eventually realizes there’s an entire section dedicated to their first trip together but doesn’t point it out but she does fall asleep smiling that night.
— the sweetest thing is that chickie slowly starts trusting marti with the parts of herself she doesn’t show everyone. she’ll tell her about things from before arsenal and even before the tillies. just little memories and strange stories, things she doesn’t usually explain. but she always feels comfortable telling marti because she never pushes those boundaries and just listens
— sometimes chickie finishes talking and says, “sorry. that was heavy.” marti always answers, “you don’t have to apologize for telling me things.” that makes chickie smile every time
— their relationship gradually becomes this incredibly comfortable little bubble. they can spend an entire afternoon together without doing anything particularly exciting. chickie doing homework, marti playing music and there’s snacks everywhere with occasional conversation and a comfortable silence. somehow both of them consider it one of their favorite ways to spend time together
— marti’s flirting remains completely ridiculous.’“you know, if you keep smiling at me like that, i’m going to get the wrong idea.”nchickie, genuinely confused, “what idea?”bmarti just sighs, “never mind.”
— eventually chickie starts teasing her back without realizing it.!“you’re obsessed with me.” marti raises an eyebrow. “maybe.” chickie laughs. “you’re so weird.” “you like me.” “obviously.”
— marti goes completely silent as chickie continues scrolling through her phone until five seconds later chickie goes, “wait,” she looks up, “what did you mean by that?”

can you do some hcs of chickie with the new signings
— misa knows about chickie through games and the spanish/barça girls that always talk about her during national camp. but most importantly, she knows all about chickie via marti.
— she clocks almost immediately that chickie is quieter around new people, so instead of forcing conversation, misa just starts including her in everything. “chickie, come with me.” “where?” “doesn’t matter. come.”
— chickie just follows.
— misa is absolutely the type to randomly appear beside chickie during breakfast and steal something off her plate. chickie eventually starts ordering extra specifically because she knows misa is going to steal some anyway.
— misa LOVES making chickie laugh because chickie has one of those laughs that starts quietly and then completely takes over her and then boom everyone is laughing.
— ona is different because she already knows chickie but doesn’t immediately smother chickie with affection.
— instead, she quietly observes. she notices chickie’s habits or how she prefers sitting at the end of the table, and gradually becomes one of chickie’s safest people.
— and ona has this very calm older-sister energy with her which makes chickie feel like she can sit beside her in complete silence and neither of them feels obligated to fill it.
— sometimes they’ll literally sit together on the bus with headphones on, doing their own things and chickie loves that.
— oh georgia is TROUBLE and chickie is doomed.
— georgia takes approximately five minutes to decide that annoying chickie is her new favorite hobby.
— she calls her “chickadee” approximately 400 times a day. sometimes she will shout her name and then after chickie responds she will say nothing else. chickie just walks away.
— she also becomes another person other than kyra who gets chickie into the most ridiculous situations. “come on.” “where?” “trust me.” “that’s exactly why i’m asking.”
— georgia absolutely introduces chickie to every single piece of british nonsense she thinks she’s missing, despite the time chickie has already spent in the country. anything from snacks to slang to random tv shows to incredibly specific opinions about food. chickie ends up knowing far more about british culture than she ever intended.
— georgia is also surprisingly gentle with her. especially because she understands that chickie doesn’t always want to be treated like the youngest person in the room. she’ll tease her relentlessly but never infantilize her.
— and in the event chickie actually needs help? georgia is there immediately. “you alright?” “yeah.”“properly?” chickie nods. “okay.” and then georgia goes right back to being annoying.
Summary: Vicky really likes you but you don’t speak Spanish, and now she’s doubling down on her English just to talk to you.
Warnings: None? Oh, not proof read(i got lazy)
Words: 850 (this one is a blurb fr)
Notes: I haven't written in awhile… wow. Also this is set last season bc Jana is mentioned.
Vicky likes you.
Vicky liked you from the moment you came to Barcelona. And everyone else on the team knew. I mean, she treated you like everyone else on the team… or so you liked to think.
Vicky kept trailing behind you all the, along with the fact that you were almost always together, and she always asked you to be in her TikTok’s or Instagram posts, despite the language barrier. But you thought she was just being friendly. After all, you moved to a whole new country to go to a team that spoke a language you didn't. Only a few of them spoke English. And Vicky was learning and putting in effort.
What you didn’t really see or know was the way she stared long after you looked away, that she sometimes tripped over her feet looking at you, that she was always talking about you to her closest teammates, who were thoroughly sick of it, and that despite her wanting to learn English for awhile, she was trying harder now that you were at Barca, using any excuse to talk to you, even if the sentences weren’t the best. Even if you had to sit awkwardly for a few moments as she tried to piece together the words that just spewed from your mouth in a blur and come up with a response whenever you two were hanging out with each other with no one to bridge the language gap, which was happening more and more as she asked you to go to more places with her.
Coffee shops, restaurants, movie nights, were a struggle because of both your languages but she always demanded English so she could better her skills and you could understand the tv, and other things.
Now she was on live at the training grounds after training as a fun spur of the moment live, and you happened to walk past, Vicky grabbing your wrist quickly for you to join her.
“Wait… come…”
“Vicky I'm tired” You sighed, looking at her, only to be met with puppy eyes.
“Vicky” You warned
“Please? Just a few minutes?” She begged, stumbling over some words with a slight pause but she was getting much better.
Honestly now, you don't even know why you even tried to deny her. It was impossible.
“Fine” You responded, an inevitable smile coming upon your face as you sat down beside her for the five minutes that quickly turned into fifteen.
_________________________
Later that night, to ‘compensate’ for you having to stick with her while being exhausted from training, she’d taken you to a restaurant.
“So… the salsa here is really good” She mumbled, trying to start a conversation.
I nodded politely for lack of better words.
“...You’re getting better at English, yes?” I implied, though I knew that she knew she was. She was proud of that fact, nodding at you happily at the thought of being able to talk to you more. Singing English songs with some ease now around the base and on bus rides.
“Thank you. I've been practicing with Jana, "she says, pleased with herself. “It’s easier to talk to me?”
“Definately much easier since I first came to the club” You smiled softly.
The rest of the dinner went smoothly and she drove you home and gave you a hug that lasted little longer than ‘just friends’.
_________________________
The next day at training Patri was being her normal joking self with everyone; teasing people and saying things that were only partly true, so why it made your heart jump when she told you that Vicky liked you with a shit-eating grin on her face? No one knows.
You didn't plan to confront her to be honest. It really just came out when you were walking out the training center together.
“Vicky?” You asked, interrupting her from whatever conversation she was trying to have with you that you were half listening to.
“Si?”
“Do you like me?”
That was when she stopped. Like a full halt. Feet not moving, breathing skipped, heart dropped, and her eyes locked with yours.
“Que? W-who told you?” She stuttered, her caramel skin becoming darker in the cheek and ear area as her face heated up.
“Patri” You quipped, “But surely she didn't mean it and was just joking like normal right?”
Silence. If you could ever hear a pin drop at any time of the world, it would be now, in this parking garage with her.
“N-no… she wasn't joking.”
Now it was your turn to be star-struck. Jaw and heart dropping.
“Oh… I-I’m flattered… Vicky I like you to” You smiled shyly. You don't think you'd ever seen her smile so quick and so wide.
“So… we date now?”
“It's up to you” You smirked towards her.
“... will you be my girlfriend?”
“Abslutely.”
End
Please give feedback in the comments, it really helps me get better.
I remember reading a Sienna hc abt how since everyone around her has a gf/wife, she assumed thats just how the world is 🥹 I can't seem to find it through searching ur masterlist, do u have the link?
hola! First of all the latest Sierra update was the highlight of my terrible week, it was so good to read it!
I'm just curious about something, if I'm not wrong (but maybe I am) not long ago you posted a little spoiler about a chapter of the sienna universe that you were writing. I was wondering if we will have some more chapters or if ypu actually changed that little snippet and trasform it into the latest update? I don't want to sound rude or to pressure you, I'm just genuinely curious
Sorry for rambling and thank you for all the amazing stories you create🫶
first thank you! also there are definitely more chapters coming out but unfortunately i definitely overloaded my schedule for the summer and did the same thing going into the fall semester 😭 but it is coming!

so crazy but estrella is at the age of being a freshman in college. so i would think she started online classes for now but she’s being actively recruited by a lot of colleges in the US so she’s really debating right now what that would look like and if she wants to take that leap. but i feel like there’s three factors for her leaving: one, i feel like soleil definitely went abroad for college. two, alexia is gone as is mapi, ona, and salma. three, her contract is up and she’s not 100% sure she’s interested in resigning.
so she’s definitely been touring some places with tobin, christen, and alex who are all trying to convince her to attend their respective alma maters… lucy also has been chirping in her ear about unc.
but she’s also been getting some offers from other clubs. safe to say she’s dealing with a lot of stress.
was rereading some sienna stuff and remembered eloa is brazilian so how is she feeling about next years World Cup? Obv she plays for England but how is she feeling about taking sienna to her home country?
i feel like they would make a mini vacation out of it! they do a pretty good job at connecting sienna with her brazilian side and try to take at least on trip home a year but it would be a totally different ball game now (pun intended)
toddler Sienna 🥺🥺 excited to see her little personality
i’ve been hanging around my nieces and nephews a lot lately so a lot of her mannerisms are based on them and they are little riots 😭😭 but it also helps me cope with me missing them when i’m at college!

not azulita naming one of her guitars "pussy princess rainbows" lmfaoooooooooo😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i need to know the team's thoughts on this when they heard the guitar's name for the first time.
the problem is the shit azulita says literally rolls off their back now. her delivery of everything is also very monotone so you have to catch what she says or else you’ll miss it 😭😭
notes ᝰ this is straight up fluff and crack. i’ve been trying to get into an angst writing mood to continue some fics its not working. let’s wait til the semester starts and i’m balancing the whole world! also this isn’t edited in the slightest so sorry not sorry 😭

Vicky props her phone up against a stack of books, snorting to herself as she checks the angle. “Hola, spam. Today we are going to see how Sienna responds to bullies at daycare.”
Behind her, Sienna is sprawled dramatically across both Sydney and the floor, one sock half off, her beloved lion plush tucked beneath one arm like it had also been kidnapped for the day.
Sydney, Clara, and Vicky had voluntarily put themselves on Sienna duty. Well…voluntarily was a generous word.
The three of them had abused the emergency keypad code, let themselves into the house at seven in the morning, stolen Sienna out of her bed, left a sticky note on the kitchen island that read: Borrowing the baby. Back later. Love you! And disappeared.
Exactly three minutes later all three of their phones had started ringing. Alexia. Then Eloa. Then Alexia again. Then Eloa on FaceTime. Then Alba..? The final result had been all three adults yelling at them simultaneously while Sienna happily waved into the camera with bedhead.
Needless to say they had been told, once again, to never do that again. Which was funny considering this was probably the ninth time.
Vicky clears her throat dramatically. “Anyway…” She points at the camera. “Ignore the kidnapping allegations.”
Sydney nods seriously. “It’s fake news. Y’know AI is crazy nowadays.”
“Completely fabricated,” Clara gives a thumbs-up.
Sienna giggles. “We stealed me.”
The three teenagers immediately dissolve into laughter.
“You what?” Sydney wheezes.
“I got stealed.”
“You know what?” Vicky sniffles. “Fair enough. You did get stealed.
Once everyone manages to breathe again, Sydney adjusts Sienna so she’s sitting comfortably against her chest.
“Okay, SiSi.”
Sienna looks up. “Hm?”
“What are you doing if someone at daycare says your hair is ugly?”
Sienna frowns immediately. “My hair?”
“Mhm.”
She reaches up and pats one of her curls thoughtfully before looking offended on behalf of herself. “It’s not ugly.”
“I know it’s not, it’s so beautiful,” Sydney smiles. “What are you gonna say?”
Sienna nods confidently. “It’s not ugly!” She crosses her tiny arms. “And my Hermana Syd is gonna beat you up!”
All three teenagers freeze and promptly slapped a hand over their mouths.
Sydney buries her face into Sienna’s shoulder.
“Oh my God.”
Clara physically rolls away so she won’t laugh into the microphone. Vicky can barely breathe as Sydney looked back at the camera.
“I have never—” She laughs again. “I have never told her I’d beat somebody up.”
Sienna nods, vividly remembering. “You did.”
“When?”
“When…” She thinks really hard. “…maybe Sunday.”
“Excellent,” Sydney sighs dramatically. “You are going to get me in serious trouble with the PR team if they see this.”
Clara recovers first. “It’s my turn.” She scoots closer. “Okay, princesa.”
Sienna smiles at Clara and the nickname.
“What if a kid comes up to you and says…” She deepens her voice. “‘Sienna, you can’t play with us.’”
Sienna gasps. “That’s not nice.”
“It’s the meanest,” Clara confirms. “So what do you do?”
Sienna doesn’t even hesitate. “I say…” She points an accusing finger at the imaginary bully. “‘I don’t need to play with you guys! My Clara is gonna come kick everybody in the face!’” Then nods proudly.
Clara blinks. “…Everybody?”
“Everybody,” Sienna declares.
“The innocent bystanders too?”
“They saw.” Sienna nods solemnly.
Sydney completely loses it and Vicky slides off the couch entirely. Clara looks into the camera, trying to not join the other two in laughter.
After several very unprofessional minutes, Vicky finally sat back up, tears running down her face.
“Okay.” She sniffles. “I’m okay. Princess,” she calls out making Sienna look up. “What are you doing if some kid tells you that you run slow.’”
Sienna looks down at her plush lion. “Hmmmm,” she hums as she rubs its ears while thinking then she looks back up. “I’m gonna tell them that my big sister Vicky is the fastest person in the whole world.”
Vicky straightens proudly. “Correct. Keep going.”
“…and she’s gonna run over here…” She makes tiny running motions with her fingers. “…and punch everybody.”
Vicky’s smile slowly disappears. “…What?”
Sienna nods enthusiastically. “Pow!” She punches the air, using her words as an emphasis. “Pow! Pow!”
Clara leans against Sydney’s shoulder. “I don’t know whether to be proud or concerned.”
“I would say mostly concerned,” Sydney nods.
Vicky sighs dramatically. “I’ve accidentally created a tiny mafia boss.”
Sydney turns Sienna toward her, trying not to laugh. “Sienna.”
“What?”
“Why,” Sydney pauses as she starts to laugh again, “why do all of your comebacks involve one of us committing assault?”
Sienna blinks innocently. “Cause.”
“‘Cause’ what?”
“’Cause you always protect me,” Sienna answers.
The room immediately quieted.
Sienna hugged her lion.
“You guys always say,” Sienna deepens her voice to imitate them, “‘No one messes with our baby.’ So if someone is mean you’ll protect me.” She shrugs like it obvious.
Sydney’s expression softens instantly. Clara reaches over and brushes a curl away from Sienna’s forehead and Vicky’s smile becomes much smaller.
“Aww.” The three teenagers chorus, looking at each other then back at Sienna.
“You know what?” Sydney says softly. “You’re right. We always will.”
“Always,” Clara agrees.
Vicky leaned over and kissed the top of Sienna’s head. “But… we should probably teach you some comebacks that don’t involve felony charges.”
Sienna tilts her head. “…What’s a felony?”
“Something Mama yells about Mami getting every time she drives too fast.”
“Oh.”
Vicky looks around dramatically before leaning closer. “Now. What I’m about to teach you…” She lowers her voice to a whisper. “…you cannot tell Mami or Mama. Sí?”
Sienna nods just as dramatically. “Sí.”
“We’re corrupting the child,” Sydney gasps.
“We’re educating the child,” Vicky corrects.
Clara nods. “There’s a big difference.”
“Hold it like that, baby,” you say softly, carefully adjusting the phone in Sienna’s tiny hands. “Perfect. Don’t move.”
Sienna nods with the utmost seriousness. “I got it, Mama.”
“You’re my professional camerawoman today,” you smile making her little chest puff out proudly.
“I am?”
“You absolutely are.”
The four-year-old grins from ear to ear, both hands gripping the phone exactly how you showed her. What she didn’t know was that the front camera wasn’t recording you at all but it was rather recording her.
The afternoon sun pours through the large windows of Sienna’s playroom, bathing everything in warm honey-colored light. It’s your favorite room in the house during the day. The pastel walls almost glow, stuffed animals sit lined neatly against the shelves, and every glitter-covered drawing Sienna had ever insisted belonged on the walls sparkled beneath the sunlight.
Earlier that morning, when doing her braids for a month she’d begged you to braid a streak of bright pink into her curls after she saw a picture of Alexia with pink hair way back when. Then she’d crossed her arms. “You have to match me.”
So now the two of you sat across from each other with matching pink braids woven into your dark curls.
You smile the second you look up. Sienna is already staring at you with those enormous glittery eyes that somehow always manage to look curious and completely in love with the world all at once.
You have to stop yourself from laughing. “Hello, everyone,” you begin warmly. “Today I wanted to talk about my favorite person in this whole wide galaxy.”
Sienna’s eyebrows lifted as she looks behind herself, back at you, then behind herself again.
You pretended not to notice, continuing with your speech. “She is so smart. So kind. So sweet.”
Sienna hugs the phone a little closer.
“So beautiful. So pretty. And she brightens every single one of my days.”
Sienna’s head tilts as you watch her carefully, the realization hadn’t hit her yet.
“My whole entire world…” You smile so softly your heart almost hurt. “…is named Sienna.”
Her lips started curling into a shy smile as her eyes immediately widened, completely shocked by your words.
She does her same look around routine at herself, then at you, and then back at herself again as if checking there wasn’t another Sienna hiding somewhere in the room. “…Me?”
You nod. “You.”
Her smile spreads so quickly it was almost blinding.
“My Sienna.”
Her shoulders tucked inward bashfully.
You continue, smiling just as wide as she was.
“She’s my whole heart. She’s the sunshine of my life.”
Sienna pressed her lips together. Her nose scrunched as she fought a smile that refused to stay hidden.
“When she laughs, I laugh. When she’s excited about something…”
Sienna giggled without even realizing she was doing it.
“…I somehow become even more excited. When she hugs me everything bad disappears.”
Your eyes soften. “She has this heart that’s so full of joy. So full of kindness. So full of love. And she gives little pieces of it to everyone she meets.”
Sienna’s smile slowly becomes smaller as her eyes begin to glaze, trying so hard not to cry.
“She’s brave. Even when she’s scared. She’s gentle. She shares. She says thank you. She tells people she loves them before bed every single night. And she somehow convinces everyone around her to play tea party.”
Sienna nods proudly. “I do.”
“You absolutely do,” you smile. “I love her more than words will ever explain. I love her more than every star in the sky. I love her more than every grain of sand on every beach. I love her more than every flower in every garden.” Your voice becomes quieter. “And she is, without question my very best friend.”
Sienna’s little mouth trembles, and you see the exact second the emotions became too much for her tiny heart.
Her eyes filled with tears, she blinks hard before they spilled over.
“I love her to death,” you keep talking gently. “I think she’s the funniest little person I’ve ever met. I think she’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done. And I thank god every single day that I get to be her Mama.”
A tiny sob escapes her.
You immediately reach your arms out. “Oh, meu amor…”
The phone slips harmlessly onto the carpet as Sienna launches herself across the room. She buries herself into your chest, wrapping her tiny arms around your neck with surprising strength.
“Awww…” You rock her instinctively. “My leõezinha.”
You kiss the top of her head over and over. “My sweet girl. My precious baby. I love you so much.”
Sienna sniffles loudly. “I love you too, Mama.”
She pulls back just enough to look at you, tears still streaming down her little cheeks.
“I’m,” she hiccups, “your favorite person?”
Your own eyes start to sting with tears. You brush away her tears with your thumbs. “Always and forever. No matter how big you get. No matter how old you are. No matter where life takes you. You will always be one of the greatest loves of my life.”
Sienna stares at you for another second before wrapping herself around you again.
“I wanna stay little.”
Your heart shatters and stitches itself back together all at once. You laugh through your own tears. “Oh, baby. I know. But even when you grow up,” you kiss her forehead, “you’ll still be my baby.”
She nods against your shoulder. “Promise?”
“I promise.”
She stays tucked against you for another minute before mumbling quietly, “Can I tell you something?”
“Anything.”
Sienna looks up with watery eyes. “You’re my favorite person too.”
You smile so brightly it almost hurt. “I know.”
She frowned. “You do?”
“I do.”
“How?”
You tap gently over her little heart. “Because I can feel it.”
“My heart talks?” Sienna gasps dramatically.
You nod with complete confidence. “It tells me every day.”
She considers that very carefully before deciding it made perfect sense. “My heart is very smart.”
“It gets that from you.”
She beams then, completely ruining the emotional moment, she sniffles once before asking, “…Can we have ice cream now?”
You laugh so hard you nearly cry all over again. “I had a feeling that was coming.”
“So… is that a yes?”
You kiss her cheek. “Yes.”
She shoots both little fists into the air. “I LOVE BEING YOUR FAVORITE PERSON!”
From somewhere down the hallway, Alexia’s voice echoes through the house. “You only got five minutes alone! How is she already getting ice cream?”
Sienna cups her hands around her mouth. “’Cause Mama loves me the most!”
A dramatic gasp echoes back. “Excuse me? I heard that!”
The two of you dissolve into laughter, still wrapped tightly in each other’s arms as the recording quietly captured every smile, every tear, and every ounce of love between a mother and her little girl.
“Hello, everyone!” Sienna chirps brightly into Alexia’s phone that she has very proudly stolen from the bathroom counter.
The problem, in Alexia’s opinion, with Sienna having so many teenage influences in her life is that she insists on doing teenage things. Or, at least, what she thought teenagers did.
Ever since she watched Vicky film one of her “Get Ready With Me” videos for social media, Sienna has become utterly obsessed.
Every morning, every outfit, every hairstyle, every snack, every trip to the grocery store, everything apparently required a vlog.
Somehow—and Alexia still has absolutely no idea how—Sienna has even figured out how to send every single one of those videos to the family group chat.
The first time had been adorable and the fifteenth was still cute but, by the seventy-third, Alexia had received a notification from her phone telling her she is dangerously low on storage. She is almost certain her four-year-old was personally responsible.
“Get ready with me and Mami!” Sienna announced dramatically, angling the phone toward herself before turning it back toward Alexia.
Alexia stands behind her, completely focused on gently misting Sienna’s curls with water.
“So Mami is doing my hair right now…” Sienna narrates with a toddler-like confidence. “…and Mama is downstairs making breakfast with Vicky. Today everybody has work. Mami has football, Mama has football, and Vicky has football. So everybody’s leaving me.”
Alexia snorts. “We’re not leaving you.”
“You literally are.”
“We’re coming back.”
“Oh.” Sienna thinks about the statement for a second. “…Okay.”
She immediately continues. “But I get to go to Abuela and Avozinha’s house! And we’re gonna color and bake cookies and maybe Avozinha will let me stir the brigadeiros…”
Alexia laughs quietly. “She absolutely will.”
“And then when Tía Alba gets off work she’s gonna pick me up and then we’re gonna go watch Mami and Mama and Vicky!”
She bounces happily in her seat. “I’m very excited.”
“You sound very excited,” Alexia cosigns.
“I am.”
She holds the phone a little closer.
“So that’s today’s vlog.”
Alexia smiles to herself as she finishes wetting the last section of curls. “What hairstyle do you want today, bebé?”
Sienna immediately looks at herself in the mirror. “Hmmm…” She purses her lips dramatically. “A bun.”
“What kind?”
“Like Mama.”
Alexia smiles so warmly it almost hurt. “The slick bun?”
Sienna nods enthusiastically. “So I can look fast.”
Alexia laughs. “Mama would love hearing that.”
“I wanna look speedy.”
“You already are speedy.”
“No.” Sienna shakes her head seriously. “I’m super speedy.”
“You absolutely are,” Alexia leans down to kiss her temple. “Whatever my leoncita wants.”
She reaches for the gel before beginning to smooth Sienna’s curls back with practiced hands.
The room falls comfortably quiet. Well… as quiet as it could be with Sienna. She stays silent for nearly twenty whole seconds— a personal record, before asking her swarm of questions.
“Mami?”
Alexia smiles without looking up. “Yes, mi amor?”
Sienna has found the hairbrush and starts brushing her stuffed lion’s ears. “What would you do if I ate all the pancakes?”
“I would take you straight to the hospital,” Alexia says with no hesitation.
Sienna gasps dramatically. “Why?”
“So they could pump your little stomach.”
“I wasn’t gonna eat all of them!” Sienna burst into uncontrollable giggles.
“I should hope not.”
“I’d leave one.”
“How generous.”
There’s a short pause before Sienna’s infamous phrase. “Mami?”
“Yes?”
“Why’s my bedtime so early?”
Alexia raises an eyebrow. “Mi chica,” she gathers the ponytail carefully, “you usually fall asleep before bedtime.”
“I do not.”
“You absolutely do.”
“I fight it.”
“You lose.”
“Every time?”
“Every single time,” Alexia confirms as she ties the hairband.
“My body betrays me,” Sienna sighs dramatically.
“It really does.”
“Hmm.”
There’s another thoughtful silence as Alexia is almost finished twisting the bun.
“Mami?”
“Hm?”
“What would you do if I married Mama?”
Alexia’s hands freeze. “…What?”
Sienna looks into the camera as if she’d asked the most ordinary question in the world.
“I wanna marry Mama.”
Alexia slowly blinks. “…You…want to marry Mama?”
“Yep.”
“Very much.”
Alexia looked at Sienna in the mirror, her eyes flicker to the phone in disbelief then back at Sienna.
“You can’t marry Mama.”
“Why?”
“Because,” Alexia carefully secures the bun before turning Sienna around to face her, “I’m marrying Mama.”
“What?” Sienna frowns.
Alexia smiles and holds up her left hand. The engagement ring sparkles in the morning sunlight pouring through the bathroom window. “You see this?”
Sienna nods. “It means Mama already said yes.”
The little girl’s eyes became impossibly wide.“No…”
“Yes.”
“No!”
“Yes. You knew this.”
“But,” Sienna looks completely devastated, “I wanted to marry her.”
“I know you did.” Alexia can’t help laughing.“But she’s already my fiancée.”
Sienna’s bottom lip trembles. “So… I lost?”
Alexia bites her lip to stop herself from laughing harder. “You didn’t lose. You can still love Mama.”
“I do love Mama.”
“And Mama loves you.”
“But,” Sienna pointed accusingly toward the ring, “…you got there first.”
“I did.”
There was a long, very dramatic silence. Then Sienna grabs the phone, climbs off the chair and bolts out of the room.
“MAMA!”
Alexia blinks. “…Sienna?”
The little feet thunder down the hallway. “MAMAAAAAA!”
Alexia sighs. “Oh, no…”
She hurries after her daughter just as another wail echoes from downstairs. Alexia slaps a hand over her face. “Oh, Dios mío…”
Then your voice echoes through the house.“Alexia Putellas!”
“Oh, mierda,” Alexia winces.
She rushes downstairs to find absolute chaos.
Sienna has thrown herself dramatically into your arms in the kitchen while you stand over the stove flipping pancakes with one hand.
Vicky is already doubled over laughing against the kitchen island.
“What happened?” you ask, looking between your distraught daughter and your nowhere-to-be-seen fiancée.
“Mami said I can’t marry you!” Sienna exclaims, sniffling dramatically.
You blink. “…What?”
“And she’s stealing you!”
Vicky immediately loses it, collapsing onto the counter.“Oh, this is better than Netflix.”
You look towards the staircase just as Alexia appears. She stops halfway down, feeling your stare.
“You explain.”
Alexia points at herself. “Me?”
“Yes, you.”
Alexia sighs. “I simply informed our daughter that I happen to already be engaged to you.”
“She showed me the ring!” Sienna points an accusatory finger.
You look down at Sienna then at Alexia. “Oh, sweetheart,” you crouch to her level. “You know you can’t marry your Mama, right?”
“Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Because I’m your Mama.”
“…Exactly.”
Vicky has actual tears rolling down her face. “I can’t breathe,” she wheezes.
“You can marry someone who loves you just as much one day,”. Alexia walks over, wrapping one arm around your waist.
Sienna thinks about it. “Can they make pancakes?”
“They better.” You nods solemnly.
“…Can they braid my hair?”
“They should learn,” Alexia pipes in.
“…Can they love lions?”
“They absolutely have to.”
Sienna considers that very seriously. “Okay,” she points at Alexia. “But I’m still mad at Mami.”
“For telling the truth?” Alexia mouth is wide open.
“You stole my wife.”
Vicky slides off her stool entirely, laughing so hard she ended up sitting on the kitchen floor. “I am never deleting this video.”
