BLEEEEEEHHHHHHH
just watched a star trek episode about a planet that relied so heavily on it's computer system that they all forgot the basics of their own knowledge. and that allowed them to miss the fact that they were being posioned with radiation and nearly ending their civilization. because they couldn't use their own knowledge to figure things out. i bring this up for no reason in particular
star trek loves having characters get cold feet before their weddings/ponder a break-up but they never get a good enough job of convincing me back again that the characters should actually be together. every single couple who doubted their relationship was lowkey right. miles and keiko. b'elanna and tom paris. jadzia and worf. guys i'm bored let's have a stay apart saturday
Late last year, Antimatter Pod did a series where we watched every one of most of Star Trek's wedding episodes, and we concluded that Star Trek loves a wedding and is not remotely interested in marriage.
Also way too many Star Trek races believe in betrothing children, and that's bad.
The sixtieth anniversary celebration is headed to the big screen.

Seven winced in annoyance when the Captain did not answer the chime immediately; she was obviously already inside, and she rarely fell asleep so early. Then, she did not answer another one. On the third try, Seven thought about using the command code to get the door open before it did on its own, allowing Seven to slip inside.
The Captain was sitting at the vanity table in the bedroom section of her quarters, partially obscured by the room divider. She appeared to just have showered, her skin pinkish, and was now wrapped in a long silk robe, applying something to her face.
“You could have just sent the report, Seven.”
(an excerpt from the fic I am writing)
"The second-season two-parter called ‘The Maquis’ is very much based on situations that are going on in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the Mideast. And we have managed to find a way to put it in Cardassian/Federation terms so that it becomes a story we can tell. It seems like it’s perfectly part of the STAR TREK universe. It doesn’t preach and it doesn’t say anything specific about the Israeli situation, but you might get an understanding of the kind of conflicts that those people are dealing with, from this kind of story."
Michael Piller, from: Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens, The Making Of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, 1994.
It's fascinating to me that both the Maquis and the Bajorans were compared with Palestinians by executive producers who oversaw their creation (Piller, Berman), and that this was totally unremarkable at the time.
And this is part of why I rage so hard against SNW's dismissive attitude towards genocide. "Don't overthink it." It doesn't have to be that way.
fun expression to draw
i know this isnt the kasidy yates show (but maybe it should be) but it kills me they never 1. show her reaction re: maquis-getting-got-by-the-dominion. her involvement with eddington was always more of a side gig but SHE LEFT HER CREW ON A MAQUIS COLONY WHEN SHE WENT TO PRISON so it's entirely possible her entire crew is dead. unless they refuged to non-federation and non-dominion space and are fine. (or like, the feds decided to pardon them once kasidy went to prison, or something, or sisko pulled strings to have them let back in). unless that happened then that bolian is dead 2. they don't show her during the dominion takeover arc and i know the dominion being near bajor affected her trade routes. won't somebody think of kasidy yates' trade routes
it’s so embarrassing to watch tos for the first time and be like, whoa !! 👀spock and kirk❓is anyone else kinda getting 😏some vibes 😳 as if they aren’t the founding fathers. as if they didn’t build the yaoi dimension with their bare hands. as if the current cathedrals we call home aren’t predicated upon their humble shadow puppets on the walls of plato’s fucking cave, and as if our ancestors were fools to fall for those puppets instead of geniuses, innovators, and prophets ????
this is how i felt when i was like woah this show is so fanfic-eque sometimes. yeah man they invented modern fandom. this is to be expected.

when the annoying omnipotent being that's weirdly obsessed with you won't stop talking about his odd and romantic fantasies about you in front of all your co-workers...
First time drawing some of my Long term favorite characters
im no longer warning people about the sixties sfx in tos instead grabbing them by the shoulders and screaming there are aliens made of bubble wrap and latex and so much glitter. most of the episodes are blatantly filmed in southern california or three rotating sets featuring either pink orange or blue rocks. people jump off walls and pirouette when they get "punched". the ship beeps. a lot. too much for realism. spock goes into heat. dont worry about it. the point is there is no BUT. im not going to say "its very silly but its fun" ENOUGH! it's silly AND it's fun!!!!you will learn to love it all because when was the last time you looked at bubble wrap and a back garden and saw another world? remember how much fun it was? do you want to try again?!?!! do you want to play!!!!
Current mood
it's almost my qcard obsession anniversary so i wanted to redraw this
