It was supposed to be a simple mission for Keith and Lance - get in, scout weird underground base, and get out. With the lack of any biological signatures, theyād assumed the base was abandoned and empty. It wasnāt. Now Keith was badly injured and could not move on his own, and Lance needed to get him and get out before anything worse can happen - all while avoiding the strange and luminescent creatures that seemed to only exist in the corners of their eyes. Their soft, surreal beauty belied a dangerous nature - as Keith had discovered - and the only way they could survive was to get out without waking them from their drifting lethargy.
(Part of the Klance Big Bang 2017)
Story: RUN
He ran - down the dim lit hallway with the violet lighting burning at the edges of his sight, the walls a blur around him, his body burning with the effort, and behind the creatures - the creature? - the conglomeration of creatures followed with single-minded purpose. He could feel the heat of their breath even through his armor, the air wet with the humid panting and growling.
Breath rushing, heart pounding, the sound of his heartbeat in his ears - all Keith could focus on was moving, moving - moving - keeping his feet in motion, his legs pumping, arms swinging, keeping from losing momentum as behind him the mass of bodies followed, growling and snapping their teeth at his heels, swiping their paws past his head.
Move! his instincts screamed, his senses picking up some minute change in the air around him, and he dodged to the side as another paw swiped past, massive and clawed and heavy as it fell through the air and hit the floor with a solid thump that set it shaking beneath his feet.

Voltron Fandom - have you ever sat there thinking something was lacking the fandom, that there wasnāt enough horror lurking in the dark corners, not enough chills creeping down your spine or spreading goosebumps across your skin?Ā
Fear not! The horror is coming! But it needs your help.
Iām Hollo! I write things, and most recently Iāve been writing for the Voltron: Legendary Defender fadom. You may have read some of my horror work already - Everythingās Going to be Fine Again, or Phantom Limb, or maybe Peripheral - and if you have you may have gotten the feeling that horror and creepy things are just sort of something that I really, really love.Ā
Iām setting out on a project journey now - itās a journey that is going to take months of hard work, months of drafting and writing and rewriting, but a journey I am very willing to take to present the fandom with a Horror Collection tailored for the Voltron universe. All stories within the collection will be horror, with themes ranging from metaphysical and/or psychological horror to good olā slash em up zombie horror - but its all going to be creepy and scary and heart pounding and uncomfortable and hopefully horrorful enough that it will stick with you, somewhere under your skin, to twitch and itch its way back into your minds when you least expect it.Ā
To undertake this project, I am asking for a little bit of help in the form of open support. Iāve started a PatreonĀ and humbly ask for your support on it in regards not only to the Voltron Horror Collection but my own writing as well. Eventually Iād love to move focus to my own, original writing, but until the Voltron Horror Collection is finished the focus will be all Voltron Horror - ALL THE TIME!
Rewards for supporting me will include, based on reward tier, anything from blog posts about creatures and cryptids to concept art (sketched and polished sketches), brainstorming ideas, and even flash fiction (Voltron Horror Style!) once a month.Ā
If you know my writing and consider it worth it, please consider supporting me in my quest to create a Voltron Horror Collection booklet at my Patreon (click)Ā
Please consider reblogging this post! All support of ALL kinds is greatly appreciated!
One of the concepts Iāve been kicking around has been a sort ofĀ āafter the fact/scene of the crimeā story where the Blades arrive to find that the Paladins have been in a horrible battle that theyād just missed. People are injured, people are missing, and as the Blades try to make sense of the scene and the oddities of what seems to have occurred and try to find the missing Paladins, they become aware that there is another presence there - that what had caused the destruction and carnage they are seeing may still be there among them.
I have an idea of how to do it too - I just canāt quite pinpoint the setting Iād want it in. The inside of a base is cliche and also something I want to use for another story. An outdoor compound set up by the Galra as a temporary base point feels like a better idea.Ā
Done right, I think this idea is an interesting one. I need to decide if it is pre-Keith joining the Blades or after, as well. So many variables to consider!
Second option sounds good, to me.
I was leaning towards that one as well! Iām envisioning a fortified settlement, but one set at like the edge of a forest maybe. Plenty of visibility but somehow they still canāt catch sight of what is lurking out there. Iām trying to figure out the time of day as wellā¦evening into night would probably be the most intense I think? But thatās also cliche, haha, and Iām trying to decide whether itās the *right* type of cliche or notā¦
What about night going into day? The Blade are Galra, who are probably sensitive to bright light, and the planet theyāre on may make it too bright for them to see. Or at least bright enough that it inhibits their movements. This is why most of their missions tend to be out in space, not on-world. They actually have an advantage in the dark, but the sun rising is a big threat.
Whatever you decide, cliche is not a bad thing, and you could definitely pull it off.
Also I LOVE the blades and I just want @hollowrites to know that I would TOTALLY read this shit.
I'm so happy! I'm really looking forward to getting this idea written so I'll definitely let you know when I do :D

The thing about cliches is that you can turn them on their heads, if you know how to.
You know what we donāt see enough of, though? Daytime horror. Iām of the opinion that darkness hardly matters; if itās scary in general, itās scary in every lighting possible. Iām thinking rather than just bright daylight, you go with a little time into the afternoon. Which I guess can look like anything, on an alien planet. Ooo, what if the scariness from the setting came from the fact that even though itās not nighttime, Team V thinks it is bc itās so damned close to our version of it?
Just a few thoughts. Didnāt mean to ramble.
No ramble on!! Thatās excellent. And man what an idea, I like the idea of different photperiods like that. Honestly though what if the light spectrum on a planet is COMPLETELY different? What if it looks like ānightā or it just seems plain dark to human eyesight bc most of the light there is within the ultraviolet range humans canāt see. Iāve sorta done the āyou canāt see it unless you squintā thing with Peripheral but honestly I love the idea of āunseen/unnoticeable" horror so the idea of humans stuck on a planet where theyāre effectively blind bc the creatures utilize ultraviolet light and can only be seen within the ultraviolet spectrum is really interesting to me.
Okay I kind of went on a tangent haha
But that was the best tangent ever! ;A;
You should totally go with that! After all, the paladins have yet to come across something they canāt see. (Unless they did and I forgot bc Iām sort of a filthy casual that only watches these episodes once or twice.) Itād be great fun to tinker with. Not to mention the fun that goes into thinking about just what kind of monsters & beasties live in ultraviolet light.
How would they evolve to essentially fight blind? What do they even look like? How do they move? And my personal favorite: which of the paladins has the best chance against it/them? Ooor, maybe none of them are quite fit to take it on themselves and Coran winds up being its closest match. He is a trained Altean soldier whose been alive much longer than anyone in the Castle. (That includes Allura.) Which would mean he not only has more fighting experience under his belt, but his age is often used in the series to show that he has extensive knowledge of many otherworldly creatures, be they threats or not. Imagine if no one else knew what to do because theyāve never heard of such a thing like an ultraviolet beastie, but then boom! In comes Coran to learn their asses a thing and he thinks up with a plan to save them!
Or they could all die. Sāyour fic.
Ohh, is Peripheral that Hunk-centric piece you wrote? Iāve still yet to get to it, but I plan to. Already finished Phantom Limb and I am quite in love with your work.
Ohhh ohhh Coran being the 'secret weapon's that'd be brilliant! I think 'happy end' horror is a thing, although maybe that's just action? Whatever, I think that's an awesome idea. Maybe he doesn't know the planet/creatures himself but he's known similar things and will figure out a way to visualize them and fight them. There's so many ways he could help...and he doesn't get enough love so it'd be nice to give him some screentime (pagetime?).
The Hunk one is Night Terrors (short but sweet I thinl haha I had fun with it), Peripheral is the Keith & Lance rescue/escape fic with nearly invisible monsters. (It was for a big bang and has some WICKED ART from @spaceboomerang & @marzdraws they did such good work I legit cried)

Awesome idea and I was thinking of that after I reblogged the first post. I could incorporate eyespots and visual anomalies of I did that - which would also be interesting! Maybe the original Galra who set up the camp had safeguards i.e. walls/barriers/sunshields that protected against the sun but that were torn down in the battle or somethingā¦
@bluerobokitty just some world building but what if Galra eye lenses work differently and they refract light weirdly and in high light situations get like sun dogs and stuff only it's an effect that occurs within their eyes/lenses so they can't really control it and it's really disorienting?

THE FLATWOODS MONSTER
Description:
A being not of this world, the Flatwoods Monster is widely regarded as a true encounter of the third kind.
It was September 12, 1952, seven in the evening, when a bright object was seen by three young boys to fly through the air and land on the land of a neighboring farmer. After running home to tell one of their mothers about it, the group along with several others made their way into the hills and towards the supposed crash site. A dog that was accompanying them made to run forward towards the object, but soon returned, tail tucked and whimpering. At the top of the hill the group found a large āball of fireā and noticed a thick and acrid mist that hung around the area and stung their throats and eyes.
One of the men noticed two points of light above the object, next to an oak tree, and when he shone his flashlight on them the creature was revealed - large, reported to be almost seven feet tall, with an oddly elongated-diamond shaped head surrounded by a spade-shaped cowl. Itās eyes were reported as either reddish or greenish-red, and its face emitted a strange glow. Its body was dark and seemed metallic, with what looked like an odd pleated skirt, and its arms were thin and ended in clawed hands. Ā As the light hit it it hissed loudly, darting towards the group and sending them scattering in panic.
Several investigations were made into the encounter, with even some from law enforcement believing that this was a true encounter of the third kind, especially after other accounts had been reported from others in the area claiming to have seen the creature. Could the Flatwoods Monster have really been an alien being, crashing down to Earth? What other explanation could there be for the multiple strange encounters?
Horror Potential:
Pretty Good - an encounter with an alien being in a forest that had crashed into a forest? Itās excellent horror fodder, and its been used often in stories for good reason! The fear of the unknown, the shock of seeing something wholly unexpected and so odd, is something that can be utilized within stories to great effect. With the right amount of mystery and suspenseful build-up, modeling a story after the Flatwoods encounter can result in something truly chilling!
While working on my Voltron Horror Collection, Iām also putting out interpretations of various creatures and cryptids! if youād like to see more of what Iām doing, or support me while I work on the collection (while also getting concept art and more creature posts, along with other random tidbits) feel free to check me out on my patreon:Ā https://www.patreon.com/hollo
