"Thanks."
Antares squatted down next to the box to take a look at it. No dents (as usual), no moist spots (he had been specifically informed that the package should remain dry at all costs), looked all good to him.
"And gotcha..." he replied. "Must be rough for you guys too, huh?"
Despite being in a very different line of work (or at least he assumed the other was, he could empathise. Even as a supervillain, laying low was usually preferable. The local police force may be corrupt, with questionable competency, and mostly staffed with regular folk but letting one's guard down was how some of his former coworkers had ended up behind bars.
Even he had changed into his work clothes only when he'd arrived at the dockside to avoid drawing attention.
He looked up at the freighter. Oh. Now that's a guy who's been under a lot of pressure, if he ever saw one.
And he'd seen a lot of them.
The question that the other man posed was one he'd heard before from newer recruits, and some not so new employees of The Agency as well.
"Physically? Or like, mentally?" Antares asked back.
Olimar watches his aquaintance evaluate the cargo. The freighter isnât concerned; he trusts his work, and he knows this man isnât the type to make a fuss over nothing. Thatâs another reason Olimar prefers working with him over some other points of contact.
âFewer shipments is never a good thing, no.â He feels horrible for wishing the police would not try to be better about actually doing their jobs.
The question makes him laugh, a strangled, choked-off sound.
âBoth, I suppose. Truthfully, Iâd take any advice youâre willing to give.â
never forget that olimar is the kind of guy who says âshanâtâ .
Since he wanted to talk it out, Selina was in a good enough mood to oblige, pulling out a chair in his dining table as she observed the man meddle about his kitchen. A drink to soothe his drying throat while he fetched for the right words to say, all in fear of the Catwoman's claws. Her eyes never missed a thing, the tremble of his fingers, the tighter grip on the glass so he'd avoid even the smallest slip right now.
"How kind of you to offer, and no thank you. Surprised your little ones are stopping you from enjoying a drink or two at home every once in a while but hey, not my house," she raised her hands in defense, still lingering on his earlier question of why hadn't she taken him hostage. But, his answer would lie in his future questions, and since she'd given him the benefit of the doubt the first time, Selina would make good use of the time they had together.
"Why aren't you my hostage? Well, let's see. Two-Face would make it 50/50, and everyone else I can think of would have you dead by now. I know you're not from here, so I wanted to give you a special welcome of my own. It's only fair, right? And just cause you haven't met them yet, doesn't exactly mean you're on their good side either."
Wow, when was the last time she was openly talking about Gotham's villains like this? Maybe with Ivy or Harley, after a heist gone wrong or worse, but those were her friends in the same boat as her. A civillian, though? Never a dull moment around here, she figured.
His attempt at a compromise only caused her to scoff, resting her chin on her elbows as she shook her head, "I'm trying to help you here, and you just want to throw money at me? I have better places to do that, you know."
Their conversation was certainly taking some hits on her ego, but, all she could think about was the fact that he couldn't even take a guess at her moniker.
"Wait, hold on. You said you don't even know what to call me?" Selina gasped, looking even more visibly betrayed than when he had mentioned getting her arrested. She pointed one gloved claw each to the pronounced ears of her purple suit.
"I'm a cat, duh!"
âTheyâre rascals. Theyâd get into anything.â But, fine, you caught him. Itâs less about the kids, and more about his wife; seeing the way gambling affects her has made Olimar nervous about keeping any potentially-addictive substances around. Oh, PechaâŠ
âYouâre saying youâre giving me a chance since Iâm new? Thatâs very kind of you.â Whatâs the catch?
ââŠso itâs not about the money.â That complicates things. âIâm guessing you enjoy the thrill? Itâs sort of a game to you, is that right? Thereâs nothing fun about being given money to buy these things yourself when you can show off your skills and steal them instead.â
This sucks. What is Olimar supposed to do now? Heâll have to fall back on his Plan B, which is needlessly risky for all involved. The rogue will be arrested, surely, but Olimar might find himself in lock-up too. Sacho will use him as a fall guy, heâll be fired, and heâll never work again. Why is she being so stubborn and forcing his hand? Just take the pay-off!
Olimar is startled out of his spiral by the look of absolute betrayal on her half-masked face.
âUmâ I just meantââ Gracious! He didnât intend to hurt her feelings.
âYes, yes, of course! A cat! And thereâs Batman, and Two-Face, as you said. And the Joker.â Everyone knows him.
âIf it helps, I think theming yourself after a cat makes you the classiest of all of them. You look⊠you look purrfect.â Itâs almost painful how hard heâs trying.
Can they get back on topic?
âLook, Ms. Cat. We both know Iâm in over my head with all of this. If you have another option for me, Iâm all ears.â Much like her cowl, which he wonât ignore again.

thinking about maxwell cursing olimar into an endless cycle of surviving in a hostile world all alone WOULD make me want to go play ragtime @ him if that werenât just. what the pikmin franchise is all about
ok SO excited about a DS / DST verse for oli. Heâs obviously a mob-wielder but I gotta make him different enough from Webber & Wurt etc.
mechanics:
normal stats, no particular strengths or weaknesses. OR low health to encourage / balance out mob useage
Iâm thinking maybe he can recruit all mobs? maybe with cheaper costs, but the mobs themselves are less powerfulâ basically a tradeoff that encourages recruiting as many as possible?
maybe mobs can work together (so for example, friendly pigs & spiders wouldnât attack each other. Iâm not sure how that works in the game rn) and he can command them separately
I need to brush up on how mob commanding works (I play Maxwell exclusively and have my own shadows to do my dirty work instead /lh) but yeah I think olimar would be a character very focused on efficient gathering of resources + swarms of mobs are useful in combat, lower numbers of commanded mobs are not. give max a run for his money in the âclearing forests using helpersâ department
maybe he enters the constant with a âwhistleâ item that lets you befriendâŠ
lore:
iâm torn between human olimar or canon olimar. I think Iâm leaning towards dimension shenanigans for canon oli where the wraiths and Them have some sort of. dimensional connection
so when olimar crashes in P1, he just gets dragged into the constant instead. probably doesnât meet any pikmin at all
on the other hand, the idea of him making a deal with Maxwell is so fun đđ . maybe,,, maybe heâs about to die in the bad end and max pulls some âdonât you want another try?â shit. and then he. Yknow. Gives Olimar Infinite Tries at Surviving.
louie also gets HCs just bc:
some cooking mechanic thatâs different from warly ??
takes no penalty from monster meat etc. probably no sanity drain from most monsters too
Faster hunger drain but big buffs from crockpot dishesâŠ..?
Her visits to the shrines had grown less and less frequent ever since Ganondorf's defeat. The princess had felt quite guilty about it, spending less time with the goddesses when she knew she should be thanking them for aiding her in such a trial. But, once she returned to the secluded shrine, a place that had comforted her on her darkest days, she felt whole again. Paired with the relief knowing that Hyrule was safe again, she could fully immerse herself in prayer.
That was until a chirp of a whistle disturbed her moment. Zelda's prayers were often accompanied by nearby animals, but she just couldn't seem to recognize the sound. Plus, these moments were especially private to her, so she couldn't think of anyone, or even find anyone nearby, who was looking for her. She sat up from her knees and looked around, only for her eyes to fixate on a being whose height barely reached her calves.
"Huh?" Zelda questioned, sinking down into a crouch until her eyes widened once she got a better look, "What... what are you?"
Oh, if only she had her Purah Pad to take a photo! The princess grew increasingly curious, head tilted to the side as she was oh so tempted to pick up the one who had visited her.
"You almost look like a Hylian, but yet are the size of a Korok!"
âOh!â He makes a mental note. Hyrule.
Goddesses⊠how interesting. Olimar doesnât consider himself a deeply religious man, but he has strong spiritual beliefs about space, as most Hocotatians do. For example, he knows in his heart that when his people die, they become one with the vast oceans of stars above. He speculated briefly about the spirituality of Pikmin as well during his first stay on their planet, giving thought to the differences between his kind and a species so tied to the soil. He canât help but wonder now about Hylia and the other goddesses; do Hylians feel more connected to the ground below or to the sky above?
âI am very grateful to you, your friends, andâ and the goddesses of this land.â Heâs trying very hard to be polite despite his inexperience with Zeldaâs customs.
He points over at the crash site. The ship is half-buried in weeds (no wonder she couldnât find it at first!) and appears to be fully inoperable.
âIâm not missing any parts, thankfully, but most of them are too broken to fly. I⊠would need some help transporting the ship to your mechanics, though.â
If only every planet had Pikmin ready to lend a hand.
âIâll pay you all for your help, of course! I doubt you accept pokos,â he says with a laugh, smiling up at her, âBut Iâll work the debt off somehow.â

@ton-o-spuds said: "Do you mind if I ask you a personal question? Are you happy?" -Goddard :((( || psychology sentences.
Olimar half-flinches, forcing a smile. What a question.
He doesnât want to lie, not when the whole point of his work with Goddard is to improve her ability to analyze and respond to human emotions. The fact that it would be feeding her incorrect data to say âyes, of course Iâm happy!â makes this all the worse.
âWell⊠emotions are complicated, as you know. People are happy sometimes, and theyâre not happy sometimes. Right now, at this exact momentâŠâ
âI like being with you.â There. Thatâs not untrue.
âWhat about you? What are you feeling right now?â

"You feel used. Angry. Now we need to figure out whether if you're mad at me or yourself."
"You've spent so long wallowing in the past, wishing time would go backwards, but that is not how reality works."
"Isn't it all just a bit busy inside your head?"
"It can't be easy always having to prove that you belong."

"I think if you could go back and go down a different path, you would."
"Human nature is interesting, don't you think? If you understand what makes someone tick, they become predictable."
"I think you're all about your work, and you don't know when to stop."
"Beware of ideas that are not your own."
"You said "you people". Is that because you don't think you're one of us?"

"You can usually find a 'hidden' meaning in anything if you want it badly enough."
"You're not allowing yourself to feel things that you should be feeling."
"If you let that kind of poison sit on your mind, you'll die from it."
Nadine is truly doing their best to pay attention, but theyâve also suddenly got a bunch of Pikmin crawling over them. Thereâs laughter that comes from them as they try to make sure the critters donât accidentally fall.
âHuh. Lucky, I guess.â Does that mean the place has oxygen? âIâm from a planet from Earth. I donât know if that really means anything. I didnât even realize there was like, life on other planets. Well, until I met all you guys.â
They start moving the Pikmin to the ground, as they are getting shockingly close to knocking Nadine over. Their smile has not faded in the slightest, though. Itâs only gotten wider.
âI have not heard of a planet called Earth before.â What must it be like to grow up thinking youâre alone in the universe? The number of inhabited planets in contact with Hocotate is so large that he truly canât imagine being limited to empty, lifeless space.
The Pikmin let out little sounds of protest, continuing to swarm Nadine, and a few give up and begin to climb Olimar instead. He, too, nearly falls; theyâre practically his own size, after all.
âWhatââ Shoo, you silly things! âWhat is Earth like?â
Olimar sighs and shakes his head, but doesnât comment.
Most of the Pikmin appear more interested in the Leafling than in the stranger; he steps back as Nadine steps forward to keep their focus on the newcomer.
One of the creatures wanders over with a questioning coo, reaching out to touch the offered hand.
âYouâre supposed to lead them,â Olimar finally replies, but thereâs no real force behind his words. How could he blame Nadine for wanting to treat these incredible creatures with kindness? For wanting to get to know them before ordering them into danger?
He smiles beneath the tangle of leaves covering his face. Itâs kind of cute, actually, seeing this first interaction. Maybe the Onion was right about them.
Itâs a little bit like whiplash, the sudden change in the energy and mood. He might not consider fun to be a part of it, but heâs certainly acting like heâs having it right now. Once their brain has caught up, theyâre right behind him.
(There is a part of them wondering if theyâre gonna have to whistle for the Pikmin, and wondering if they even can whistle, but theyâll get there later.)
âHoly shit! You really do know what youâre doing.â Heâs got a whole plan, and Nadine still doesnât know what half of the shit surrounding them is. They watch the Pikmin move, and then jump a little when sprouts come from the⊠thing Olimar had tried to put them in. Had he called it an onion at one point?
âWait, did you want me to be one of them?â
âThank you.â It feels nice to be able to impress them. Maybe they will become interested and master the art of dandori themselves, even if they donât need it to thrive here.
âIn a way. Castaways accepted by the Onion become like me.â Related to the Pikmin, certainly, but not exactly one of them.
ââŠusually⊠that is necessary because it allows lost travelers to breathe the deadly oxygen of this atmosphere. But⊠you appear to be able to breathe here without Leaves. May I ask where you are from?â
As he speaks, Olimar plucks the new sprouts; the Pikmin alternate between following him and climbing on Nadine.
Olimar sighs and shakes his head, but doesnât comment.

âSatisfaction and fun are not the same thing, and you know that.â They point as they speak, though, their tone lightens a bit in response to his. Whatever heâs thinking, itâs a little bit heavier for him, and so.. maybe not the time to push.
âBut satisfaction works for now. So we get more little guys? Thatâs fine with me.â Nadine heads back over to him, not even realizing as the group of Pikmin follow. They do, however, make sure to put a hand on the one on their shoulder, so they donât fall.
âHow do we do that? Whatâs dandori?â
He finds himself feeling somewhat relieved when the topic is dropped, which is surprising in and of itself. Why should be be troubled by a simple question?
Olimar perks up even more as Nadine continues.
âYou are unfamiliar with dandori.â No wonder theyâre so strange!
âIt is the art of strategic planning and efficiency in oneâs actions. It is the basis of survival for us here.â So Nadine can surely understand, now, why âfunâ isnât part of the picture. Rest is necessary, and leisure can be useful, but thereâs simply too much to be done in a day for fun to be a staple of Olimarâs life. He always has more important things to focus on.
âI will show you.â Thereâs genuine excitement beneath his flat expression.
With a sharp whistle, he rounds up Nadineâs Pikmin and runs off, gesturing for the alien to follow.
The Pikmin gather pellets as the group heads back to the Onion. Nadine will see new sprouts emerge, and then they will set their sights on more formidable prey, and thenâ! Then they will understand.

âOh, so youâve got a bit of a hero complex then, okay.â Said in a teasing manner, Nadine feeling a lot more friendly than they had been even a few minutes ago. Thatâs to blame on the Pikmin. One of the downsides of mind reading tends to be picking up the feelings of others around them, but this is an upside. It feels nice.
âBut like, and maybe this is too longterm, but whatâs the eventual goal there? Or what if there isnât a castaway to find? What do you do for like⊠fun?â
There it is. It always comes back to enjoying their time.
Olimar flushes beneath his leaves.
âI wouldnât say that.â
Theyâre teasing him. This sort of interaction feels so strange. Olimar hasnât actually just⊠spoken to another person for so long. He doesnât know how to react.
ââŠâ
A Pikmin comes to comfort Olimar as he falls silent, thinking.
âThe goal is to survive and increase our numbers. Youâre asking what the goal of life is. I cannot answer that.â
Fun.
âI do not have time for fun. I find satisfaction in perfect planning and execution. Dandori is⊠all there is.â
Thatâs life. You work endlessly to provide for and protect your family. You donât stop until youâre deadâ and even then, you keep going for the sake of those you love.
Olimar sighs and shakes his head, but doesnât comment.

âWell, I wouldnât put that much stock in me, Olimar. I mean, Iâm alive, but I donât know that I would consider myself to be much of a survivor.â It doesnât seem fair when theyâre kind of cheating. Nothing impressive about that.
Thereâs a giggle that comes from Nadine, giving each of the little guys some attention. They even lift one up and let it rest on their shoulder. They do want attention, and something else, but Nadine canât quite tell what it is. Itâs hard to translate something they canât even understand.
âLike, I donât have a next step. I just think these guys are cool.â Nadine fully turns to him, Pikmin still on their shoulder, grinning like a fool. âWhatâs your next step?â
Despite his uncertainty, he trusts the Onion more than their humble estimation of themself; they are a survivor. No matter what methods or tricks they use.
The Pikmin continue to coo and cheer and wah!. The one on their shoulder looks very, very proud of itself. A few others continue to watch Olimar, and he waves to them.
âThey are cool.â Maybe Nadine isnât a good survivor; maybe the Onion just likes them because they like Pikmin. Wouldnât that be something!
âMy next step would be to gather the Pikmin, increase their numbers, and set out in search of other castaways to save. I do not like sitting idly. It wastes daylight, and nothing can be done at night. Itâs too dangerous.â
