I've had a bad day and would like to remind u that these photos of the lotr cast t-posing exist because it always makes me feel better:
Don't forget this one of Frodo giving side eye like a diva:
And this one of Sam always makes me giggle:
And Saruman giving bat wings:
And these guys:
You're welcome <3
they don’t warn you about it but if you love your own company enough to be content by yourself and you’ve got some standards for who you’d date, you’ll spend a lot of time single and nobody will really get why you’re doing that because surely you want to come home and hang out with craig, right? right????? don’t you want to hang out with craig?
I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished
make your subtitles accurate to what’s being said or i will kill you!!!!
really cool example i have of someone making youtube subtitles that both include how something (in this case, a username) is spelled, and how the narrator pronounces it. i think more people should do this

she climb. she hold
“Remember, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels 😇”
you wanna see some badass shit from the early 20th century?? The Lumière brothers created the first full color photograph… in fucking 1903! So these dudes dyed potatoes (in red, blue, and green), mashed them down into just pure fuckin’ starch, and used these dyed potato starches as filters to block out/let in certain wavelengths of light. They coated one side of a glass plate with the starches and sensitized the other side with a mixture of gelatin and light sensitive materials (silver nitrate) and loaded these plates in their cameras.. This is a really simple explanation of the process and I may have missed some things A few of my favorite autochrome photos:
that last one is literally a LOOK
yes!
but lets not forget sergei prokudin-gorskiy, who developed a similar process in 1902, published in 1903 and then toured russia to take hundreds of color photographs:
AND the guy developed color slide processing as well. as a person fairly familiar with modern b/w processing at home, but never EVER stepping into color (negatives or slides) territory, i’d say, BAMF to the highest degree.
Here are a few more Prokudin-Gorskiy / Gorskii shots, and a reminder once again that these aren’t recently colourised BW images but original colour photos taken about 120 years ago. Many colourised pics don’t look this good. Some modern colour pics don’t look this good (as I know all too well. “Delete image Y/N? Y!”)
This is Leo Tolstoy, author of “War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina”.
Alim Khan, Emir of Bukhara…
…and his Minister of the Interior.
A Type B-15 steam locomotive…
Another of those peasant girls with guest-gifts of berries…
The Church of St John the Baptist at Staraya Ladoga…
…and a Sergei Prokudin-Gorskiy self-portrait.
Unlike some current selfies ;-> he’s not dominating the image, so here’s a closer shot.
Nice hat…
Question specifically for Romani people:
In this context, would you consider the word "gypsy" to be a slur?
Context: I love old music. I love singing old songs. I recently learned of an incredibly beautiful song, however, it has the word "gypsy" in it.
I tried to do some research, but kept finding very mixed results, with some people considering it offensive and some being fine with it.
The song is That's My Desire. It's been sung by many people, the first one I heard was Cliff Richard's version.
The lyric in question is "to meet where gypsies play/down in that dim café."
It's a really nice song, and I'd like to sing it.
Is the word in this context okay to use?
(Sorry if this comes across as rude at all, my town isn't very diverse and I didn't even know it could be considered a slur until someone mentioned it in a video. I'm trying my best to improve)

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
this is so late renaissance early mannerism. the controversial male nudity? the lighting and value on the figure of emphasis?? him bathed in light and placed ABOVE while the police are clad in dark and BELOW?? Uh HES HITTING THE CONTRAPPOSTO??
On one hand: this imagery touches on themes of freedom vs oppression and how in shedding the various layers of shame placed upon us by the regime we can transcend to a higher place above the forces that seek to hold us to unjust societal standards.
On the other hand: cheeks out at the Krispy Kreme.
What if everything gets better in 2016
