Entropy
Entropy, a quantitative measure of energy in a system that can no longer be put to work. The second law of thermodynamics: Within an isolated system, entropy cannot decrease.
And a stale lifestyle will stay stale without action
Simply, entropy is a unidirectional measure of chaos within an isolated system that, without external influence, cannot go back in order. You cannot blend paint together and still have unblend paint unless you bring in fresh paint, a room will dust over time, but never undust without a human or robot to clean it up.
Even if it’s in a metaphorical way, I find that nearly everything is subject to entropy:
Relationships get stale
Games get boring
Places become desolate
Intelligence wither
And crowds grow chaotic
None of these issues are irremediable, but without understanding this underlying cause, fighting staleness with more of the same has become a common pattern of self-destruction.
Stale relationships try to rekindle by hanging out more in the same ways they always do, gamers continue to play the same game, “I’m not having fun because I don’t play enough”, places continue running as they always do, people apply the knowledge they know without learning anything new, and crowds spread unrest at an accelerating pace.
I argue that all of this is avoidable
The solution
It’s certainly obvious at this point, but my point with this post is to remind everyone to not just be content with more of the same, especially if anything in your life has gone stale, have new experiences with the ones you love to relight the fire, try out new games, perhaps a genre you never tried, perhaps a new console you never thought to play before, don’t ruin yourself of course but there are many cheap ways to play something new, and high are the chances you’ll be at least thrilled for a little while. Think of what you could add to your backyard that wouldn’t add too much maintenance but could add a little life, and keep learning, being an adult doesn’t mean that nurturing your brain no longer matters.
This is really the gist of it, if a problem in your life is the fruit of staleness, then something fresh might just be what you need, because in an isolated system, entropy CANNOT decrease.
You cannot wait off staleness
