Ho-Tan is written to identify differently than to her assigned sex/gender, stating, “I want to be a woman.” Therefore she is transgender. That is literally the definition of transgender. What else do you think they’re going for here??? It’s not a joke, they made that much clear in the Christmas special by introducing Ho-Tan’s younger, who is perceived to be a girl but later he announces, “I’m a boy!” as a secret he’s never told anyone before AKA that was him coming out as transgender. 

This is meant to remind you of the Pipple Fruit scene, this is a nod back to that episode where many people like yourself seem to think it’s “not that deep” and a firm reminder that actually, just because it’s a comedy, things can have heart and meaning and relevance - or were you not paying attention to the entire message the latest ep sent out at all? 

Yonderland isn’t “just a kid’s show” and even if it were, kids shows should be encouraged to include as much diversity and representation as any other form of media. There is nothing inherently adult about anything that isn’t cis or het, there is nothing abnormal, and it should not ever be invalidated and shrugged off. What you’re basically saying here is, “It’s a kids show so they CAN’T be trans, right? That’s for adults only!” Which is…super gross, actually.

As for not being confirmed by the cast and them still referring to Ho-Tan as “he” - that does not make it correct? Not everybody is 100% educated or right 100% of the time, they’re humans who make mistakes but are clearly trying, clearly care, clearly want to include more and more important representation. (It’s within my belief that Larry would be open to this discussion about pronouns and Ho-Tan’s identity more in-depth, which I would love to ask him about but I’ll save it for if/when I get to chat IRL again.) Basically though, trust the story instead of just the storyteller.

Larry has also acknowledged my happiness and validation over trans Ho-Tan, agreed that it’s important when I met him IRL and discussed their LGBTQIA+ inclusion in their works, and gave me hints so I could look forward to seeing more of her in the Christmas special. He also acknowledged my fellow nb trans friend Collette who sent him a video about the Christmas special, saying that, “Yonderland is truly for EVERYONE.” Everyone including us, y’know, transgender people.

For me, personally, trans is an umbrella term. I identify as non-binary trans, so my assigned gender at birth is not how I identify. I don’t feel male or female. Ho-Tan saying, “I want to be a woman.” to me means she identifies as a woman, and that’s why I refer to her with she/her pronouns. The direct contrast with her Younger further enforces this part of her identity. They are clever writers and know what they’re doing, this is all deliberate and points to the same thing (THEY ARE TRANS!!!) and I honestly DO NOT KNOW how else you could watch this and think, “Yeah, but what if they’re like, still cis. Haha it’s just a kids show it’s not that deep it’s just a joke lol.” 

Also FYI they also wrote trans character Gabriel Montoya in Bill, a family comedy just like Yonderland is, so your point is literally irrelevant to whether Ho-Tan is trans or not. It’s wilful ignorance and frankly blatant transphobia and trying to hide behind ages of the audience and the fact that it’s a comedy, but those are not easily masking you my friend.

“Matter of interpretation” is bullshit, because if you see ALL OF THIS and still believe Ho-Tan and her Younger are cis then you need to watch again, think more critically, stop thinking it’s “not that deep” and “just a kids show” and also maybe actually stop trying to talk over actual trans people who are saying, “Look, these characters are trans and here is a huge fucking essay on why with actual solid evidence from the show.” The cast not directly confirming or using the right pronouns does not mean everything they have LITERALLY WRITTEN AND INCLUDED IN THEIR SHOW is suddenly invalid??? LMAO.

I see you and you should stop. Also why the fuck say shit like “not to be rude” and “no disrespect intended” if you fully intend to achieve both those things?
