I think Kaidan Alenko is like. Just A Guy. Sure he's a certified badass with some of the highest natural biotic potential known to man, and the second human spectre, and responsible for training spec ops agents... but he's also just some guy. Likes beer and bacon. Would watch the hockey game with you, know the names of all the players, and comment on how this game would impact the rest of the season for them. The rest of the mass effect squadmates are all a bit unhinged, but I feel like Kaidan's just a well-adjusted dude who ends up kinda being the black sheep of the gang because of it and that's just hilarious to me. I love him.
