Fanfiction and fandom space is for everyone. It doesn't fucking matter whether you have been here for years or if heated rivalry is your first ever fandom; You are welcome, and we are glad to have you. We appreciate you sharing your stories and art. Sometimes you will get comments that try to help you understand the tagging system- that is fine. I still get them sometimes because even after years on AO3, I still get confused. Do not let that make you feel bad.

That being put aside, there are some rules for fandom spaces that the HR fandom (and not just people who are new to fandoms) seem to forget. If you don't like something, don't fucking read it. Nobody is forcing you to read a fanfiction based on a trope you don't like. Nobody is forcing you to interact with jokes you deem stupid. If you don't like something, either ignore it or block the user. I have seen far too many instances of people reporting works simply because they didn't like the author or the premise of the fic. That is embarrassing, and they should all feel ashamed of themselves. The same goes for any self-absorbed asshole who thinks it's ok to leave hate comments on other people's works.

I write pretty tame stuff, so most of the hate comments I get are antisemitic bullshit. I can handle that- I've been a queer jew on the internet since I was 12, very little fases me anymore- But I do not want to imagine what a little girl who is just starting to post her art is going to feel if she gets the same hate comments and threats I get on a weekly basis. So let me be unbelievably clear; if you see a fic you don't like, and instead of ignoring it or blocking the user, you leave nasty comments, you are a low-life scum, and I pray you'll never be accepted into any fandom space ever. It doesn't matter if the author wrote about something illegal or immoral. It doesn't matter if it's a ship you don't like. It doesn't matter if they are from a country you don't like or if the charcters are OOC; none of it matters because you do not own fandom space, it does not exist solely for you, and you should just shout your mouth and get on with your life.

god this quote means so much to me. wylan thinking he was utterly unloveable for the entirety of his life, consoling himself with what conditional love his father offered him until wylan could hide his dyslexia no longer. wylan clinging to the impossible chance that his father’s cruelty was still somehow out of love. that he wasn’t a monster, that deep down wylan was still his boy.

no one had loved wylan until he met the crows, not really, not without a price. his mother had, but he hadn’t known it long enough to feel it.

all the nights wylan spent cold and alone in the barrel, crying himself bare in an empty bed. the night he spent fighting through the ketterdam harbor, hopeless and despised by the people who were supposed to love him.

wylan who knew what a kid was never supposed to know, that his own father would kill him with no remorse.

wylan who felt broken, who was sure he was broken and took every scrap of blame for it.

then he met the crows. a group of degenerate misfits who seemingly had nothing to lose. who seemed bound together by a job and nothing else.

but then suddenly he had a sweet suli girl who would wrap him in her arms when he was upset, who would reassure him that he wasn’t who his father was.

he had the deadliest boy in all of ketterdam who saw skill in him no one else had before, who would tell wylan in his own way that he was useful, that he was capable, that he was part of his crew.

he had a charming heartrender who never once doubted him, who had smiled disbelievingly along with him as his bombs detonated.

he had a tough fjerdan boy who protected him and the rest of them, who unlearned so much of the ugliness in his beliefs to be here with them all, with him too.

and he had a beautiful zemeni boy who would poke at him and tease him, who had sunk right down with him as he shattered onto the ground after he had seen his mother, who had screamed his throat raw when he thought wylan had died. who’s kiss felt like an explosion, who’s eyes felt like dangerous hope.

he had a family, he had a crew, he had people who had seen him at his worst, who had known every point of shame burrowed within him, and loved him anyway.

can we just take a moment. to dissect this scene.

what was the point of showering her in her mother's favorite flowers? nothing, but it was straight out of a romance movie and extremely unlike kaz. he usually doesn't engage in anything that doesn't help with the job and doesn't appease his own personal vengeance. it wasn't even a satisfying steal, he just plucked it off of the cart. hmm i wonder what this means

how does kaz know that inej's mother's favorite flower were geraniums? does inej longingly gaze at a flower cart when she passes by? if so, he definitely noticed, definitely memorized, and definitely has been trying to find a job where he can incorporate geraniums for her
