Listen/purchase: No More Masterpieces (2002 - 2013) by Ho-Ag
"No More Masterpieces (2002 - 2013)" marks Ho-Ag's final album release. Stitched together from unreleased studio misfits and digital oddities, the album creates an in-depth look at the many faces the band has worn throughout the years, from apocalypto noise-rock ("Cadavers on Parade," "Let All Things Be Terrors") to brainy prog ("About to Rot," "Unreal City") and atmospheric drifts ("You Will Be Eaten"). Here you'll find shards of material from every lineup the band ever went through. There's the current lean four-piece, the sprawling and reckless days of the Patrick Kim/Nkls Ward (Hallelujah the Hills) era, and even some echoes of the original formative group with Dave Dines and Jonathan Ruhe (The Gersch). There are also a handful of home demos from Matt Parish and electronic works from Tyler Derryberry. All in all, it's just the kind of massive, messy farewell you'd expect from a band this tough to pin down.

Ho-Ag - 'World-Destroying Zig-Zags' (Out Feb. 19)
Ho-Ag finally return this winter with their first full-length since 2008. The new album, World-Destroying Zig-Zags (Hive 35), busts open with 13 unlucky songs of red alert siren screams and deep sea creep-outs. In proper Ho-Ag form, rhythms do the stutter-step and careful chords unravel to madness, but Zig-Zags pushes the band in extra directions. A four-piece since 2009, the band has buckled down into its most resourceful and powerful effort yet.
Available all over the internets and the finest record shops on February 19.
TRACK LISTING:
1. See You at the Brush Pass
2. I Spy the Spider Rider
3. Perplexa Maris
4. The Vulgar Crowd
5. The Gaucho
6. Circular Ruins
7. S-Wave
8. Stealin' Billions
9. Report from White Mountain
10. He is Now a Corpse
11. Arm Without a Hand
12. Burn to the Ocean
13. Demon Drop
Personnel: Matt Parish + Tyler Derryberry + Eric Meyer + Ryan Brown
Recorded/mixed/mastered with Keith Souza and Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets.
Zig-Zags employs stealth technique and newfound reserves of nearly stoner-rock heaviness across these songs, recorded throughout 2012 at Machines with Magnets (Battles, Fang Island, Debo Band, Daughters, The Body). Choruses drift out of the fog on epics like "The Gaucho" and "Perplexa Maris," while narratives spill down into dank hidden crooked caves in "Circular Ruins" and "Stealin' Billions." Blasters like "See You at the Brush Pass" and "The Vulgar Crowd" bring a focus rare in the schizoid history of the band, while tightly twisting jams like "I Spy the Spider Rider" and "Burn to the Ocean" deftly mash together a dozen styles into few tricks of musical sleight of hand. It's a juggernaut of an album.
Ho-Ag's "Burn to the Ocean" Posted This Week
Another single posted from the new record today. "Burn to the Ocean" is a topsy-turvy ode to Civil War head trauma and features a couple sly melodies written by our old guitarist KJ. GO GET IT.

Ho-Ag - "Pray for the Worms" EP (2005)
"With diverse instrumentation that squeezes saw blades, mallets, wind chimes and megaphones into a tightly wound panic attack of jostling guitars and sinister Moog, Ho-Ag recalls the herky-jerky spazz of the early B-52's or Brainiacs -- that is, when they're not scoring the quiet soundtrack of a low-budget horror flick." - Denver Westward
