âYou are the best liar,â Nerissa assured her friend, supportive of Marzia and her talents, even though being a good liar wasnât generally thought of as a virtue. âYou may not have it all back, but youâre doing so well. Donât force it, the little connector bits will come in time, and, until then, you have your friends and..LâŚwell, you have your friends.â She mulled over Marziaâs mildly distressing theory. âIf it was just a distraction, shouldnât we have heard about the real target by now?â
âThanks.â Other people probably wouldnât pride themselves on that, but she wasnât aware of any other big talents she was supposed to have. She wasnât a sports or academic kind of person. âI just donât like the uncertainty.â Someone could try manipulating her and she wouldnât know what signs to watch out for because she didnât have a reason to be wary of that person before. Which meant that she was keeping an eye on everyone, even her close friends. Until she got her memory back and knew for sure what happened with the attack against her. âMaybe they have a bigger plan. I donât know. Iâm no criminal mastermind.â
