shit tier: we should put our complete trust in roman historians like tacitus, suetonius, and livy and take everything they say as true

okay tier: while roman historians are our best bet for understanding roman history, it’s important to recognize their biases and take what they say with a grain of salt

good tier: roman history is best learned through a combination of roman historians, material culture and epigraphy, and other non-historical literature written by contemporary sources in order to get a variety of viewpoints from ancient sources and better understand how the romans perceived their own history
