There is no way that this is the same room that I was just in. Hoodie pulled me along into the room and headed towards the front. I inspected the room as we were walking and it looked exactly as it had when Hoodie had first led me in here. I looked closely at one of the chairs and it was an actual chair this time, not a demon pretending to be one.
This doesn't make any sense. Where did all these people come from and where had the demons and the lions gone off to?
He led me up to the stage and tapped the shoulder of the conductor. He turned around and it was the mint haired guy that I saw at the diner that day, except he had died his hair to black. He gave me a small smile before he turned his attention back to Hoodie.
"What's up man?" he asked, never stopping from his conducting.
"Just trying to see how you've been since we the last time we talked." Hoodie said.
Black hair laughed, "Talked? Last time I checked the last time we spoke, you were mostly yelling at me and told me to get off of your back. Which now that I can see her fully, I can see why your reaction was like that. You definitely weren't like that with the others, this one is obviously way different."
I cleared my throat to get black hair's attention and when he looked over at me I said, "What others and what do you mean by way different, what's that supposed to mean? How do you know Jungkook? I remember you from the other day."
He looked away from me and nodded in Hoodie's direction, "I didn't mean anything bad hun, just making an observation. And if you want to know, ask him."
"No, I'm asking you. I'm tired of you men or whatever you are, cause I know it's not human, not telling me what I need to know. Now I know he's not going to tell me but you are, so spill. What's your name anyway?" I asked.
He gave me a gummy smile, "Yoongi and what's your name?"
"My name is Mahj but I have a feeling you already knew that, well Yoongi out with it. I don't want to be in this room any longer than I have to be and he promised me only 10 minutes, so I need you to get on with it."
Hoodie tugged on my hand and I turned to give him a quick glare before looking back at Yoongi. I motioned to him 'out with it.' He looked over at Hoodie for back up but seemed to have gotten nothing.
He sighed, "All I'll say is that you aren't the first person to have come here, there were others but none of them seem to compare with you, especially since you've made it this far. But I'm sure he'll divulge you with more of the past later. If you'll excuse me, I think I just heard someone go off key, but trust we'll see each other again." he turned back around and focused on his orchestra.
I looked over at Hoodie and he was looking everywhere but me. I let go of his hand and made my way in front of him. I went to grab his face to look at me but as I raised my hands, he flinched away. "Relax, I'm not going to take your mask off. I just want you to look at me ok." I said gently.
I slowly grabbed his face and made him look at me. Once I saw his green eyes lock with mine I spoke," We have a lot to talk about when we get back home, and I need you to promise me that you're going to tell me the truth. Will you do that?"
His face broke out into a huge grin. "Why are you smiling so hard?" I asked confused.
"You said home," he said still smiling, "I'm just happy that you called it that, I guess."
I couldn't help but smile along with him at his cute admission, "Yes I called it home but I need you to agree to be honest with me when we get there."
He nodded slightly," I swear I'll answer your answers as much as I can but I don't know if you're going to like what I have to say."
"I don't care what you say as long as it's the truth," I leaned up and pecked him softly on the lips and let his face go. I intertwined our fingers again and looked out into the crowd. I spotted Hobi in the crowd talking to someone who's back was to me. Hobi and I made eye contact and he gave me a quick wink before going back to his conversation.
"So by my calculations, that conversation with Yoongi took up about 5 minutes so you have 10 more and then we're out of here. Who else do you need to talk to before we go back?" I asked.
"Remember the man I took you to see the first time I brought you to Hell?" He asked.
"Well I think it's time you two had a proper introduction to one another," he grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him to a man with his back towards us.
He was animatedly talking to someone but I couldn't really see their face past his shoulders. When we got up to him I saw that it was Hobi he was talking to, who stopped talking as we approached. He gave me a warm smile and winked at Hoodie who squeezed my hand in response.
Broad shoulders turned around and I was taken back by his beauty once again. Mr. Worldwide and he wasn't even wearing a mask.
A smile broke out on his face before he reached over to give Hoodie a big hug. The force of it almost made our hands come apart from how strong it was.
"I'm happy for you man. I told you that it was written in the stars this time. Now say hyung was right," he said teasingly.
Hoodie scoffed, "Ha, you said that each time."
WW shook his head and disappointment. "Yah but this time I was right. Soooooo get with it. 'Hyungnim you were right and I was wrong and I'll never doubt you again because you're always right'. Go on" he said, fighting off a smile.
Hoodie took a deep breath before he said, "Hyungnim you were right, this once," he mumbled the last part, "But I didn't come over here for you to make me give you praise, I came so that I could properly introduce you two."
WW looked over at me and gave me a wink before sticking out his hand for me to shake. "I remember seeing this beauty in my office, shame you couldn't stick around longer that time but it's lovely to see you tonight. I'm Seokjin but you can call me Jin." He kissed my hand and I felt a burning sensation where his lips were.
I let go of his hand, "Um I'm Mahj but I have a feeling that you and everyone else in here already knew that."
He laughed, "Yeah we do. Kind of hard to miss the human among us."
"And what are you?" I asked.
He gave me a million dollar smile, "Well I'm the devil of course."
I took a slight step back and got a little closer to Hoodie.
"Oh don't be alarmed little one, I won't cause you any harm. Most of the things that you've heard about me up there in the living aren't true. I mean, do I look like I would have horns on this handsome face? Or even in this luscious hair? Honey, I didn't even put a mask over this face and this is my masquerade party. I'd be robbing everyone of being blessed with my beauty if I did, don't you think?" He asked, cupping his face in his hands and batting his eyelashes at me.
"Ugh, hyung never make that face again. I wish you would've put a mask on. If anything you should've put a paper bag on top of your face so we couldn't see you completely." Hoodie said.
Jin scoffed, "Yea right and cover up this masterpiece. You're lucky to even be graced with my beauty. I should charge you for even being in my presence let alone getting to see my face." He gave me a wink, "But I'd let you see this for free."
This time Hobi spoke up, "Hyung don't scare the poor girl anymore than she is. You did just drop the bombshell on her that your the devil himself, not to mention she had to be punished into letting you kiss her hand before you told her. Mahj do you want me to point you in the direction of the washroom so you can get his spit off your hand."
"No one's pointing her anywhere," Hoodie grabbed my hand and rubbed it against his suit jacket. "I'd rather she stay beside me for the remaining time that we are here."
Jin and Hobi chuckled, "No one said you couldn't go with her. Hell, no one would stop you even if you decided to go inside there with her. I mean unless you were thinking of doing more than just having her wash her hands," Hobi said smirking.
"Hobi, now I'm starting to see the archangel in you," I said.
Hobi's face went from a golden tan color to ashen grey after I spoke, "What did you just call me?"
I looked over at Hoodie and Jin, they both had looks of concern on their faces.
"I just called you Hobi, I'm sorry if I offended you or something. That name for you just popped up in my mind and I've been calling you that internally ever since. I won't call you it anymore if you don't want me to?"
He quickly shook his head, "No, you can call me that. It's just been a long time since someone has called me that name. Sorry about my reaction to it, just brought back some memories from the past that I haven't thought about for centuries. Reminiscing about the past isn't something that I like to do."
I nodded my head in understanding, "I get it, I swear I won't call you that name if it brings you back bad memories."
He shook his head no and placed his hand on my shoulder comfortingly," Honestly you can call me that, I have no bad feelings with that name. Just weird hearing it again but I promise I'll get used to it again. Don't worry about it," he gave me a soft smile.
Hoodie cleared his throat," Ok you got your point across so you can go ahead and remove your hand from her shoulder," he brushed Hobi's hand off of my shoulder and placed his own on it.
Hobi held up his hands in defense," If I didn't know any better, I'd have to say that you are the jealous type."
"I most definitely am," Hoodie said with no hesitation.
Jin shook his head in disbelief," He hasn't changed in centuries, still claiming everything for himself. Remember Hobi he got mad at you for taking his banana."
Hobi chuckled, "Yea he was pissed, glad I only took a banana not anything else out of the basket or who knows how he would've reacted."
Hoodie sighed," Ok, well let's not all gang up on me now."
"The whole crew isn't here, then we would really be ganging up on you, given as your are the youngest of the group. It's easy to fuck with you, you get riled up real easily."
"Ha ha anyway, we're going to call it a night and head back home. Enjoy the rest of your evening fellas." Hoodie said pulling me away from the two.
He was greeted by everyone as we walked by. A few looked like they were going to spark up a conversation with him but Hoodie just kept walking until we reached the doors. He placed his hand on the doorknob and opened it. He turned his head to me and said," Wait for me outside for a second, I promise it won't take long I'll keep a hold of your hand if you want me to, I just need to say something real quick."
I sighed but still stepped out, keeping his hand in mine. He slightly closed the door but it was like the door was fully shut. I couldn't hear anything even though the space was still wide enough in the door for him to be holding my hand comfortably. I tried to peek into the crack but when I went to look, Hoodie was leaving the room.
"Let's get you home." He said, pulling me to the front entrance. He guided me down the stairs towards the Porsche that was still parked out in front. He opened my door for me and then went over to the driver's side.
As we drove off towards his apartment, my mind started to replay everything that has happened over the past couple of days. It feels like months have gone by but in reality it's only been a week. I can't believe how much my world has felt like it's been completely flipped upside down in the course of a week. It feels like yesterday when I was watching the news report on The Silent Killer, only to not only meet the serial killer but to find out that it's actually Death himself committing the crimes. Just for him to tell me that we are destined to be together and my soul belongs to him. And for him to then make murder multiple people against my will, just to try to corrupt my soul to his liking. And if you would've told me that I would be lowkey falling for my tormentor, I would've looked at you like you were crazy. Stockholm syndrome at it's finest ladies and gentlemen.
And to think, I have to go to school on Monday like I didn't spend my weekend in Hell. Hopefully Ally doesn't question my absence over the past few days. I should probably text her when I get back home. Hopefully she doesn't try to ask questions that I definitely can't answer.
"You could always lie," Hoodie said.
I turned to look at him, "Ok first of all, mind privacy. I don't know how many times I have to tell you to stay out of my head. Secondly, I could lie but then I would have to remember the lie I told her if she asks again and that's too much work. I'm not about to get caught up in a web of lies because the truth is too outrageous to believe."
He chuckled," Well I spoke to you and you didn't respond because you were so caught up in your mind so I decided to eavesdrop. I just heard the last part about Ally, I didn't listen to anything else. I do remember what you said about boundaries and I've been trying to respect your headspace but it takes a lot of effort to not listen. But I am working on it. And sometimes the truth is outrageous or unbelievable, especially in this instance. The human mind only uses 10% of its compacity, just imagine how much you guys would be able to accomplish if you used it fully. I mean didn't you see that movie with Scarlett Johansson, Lucy, you could gain powers if you put your mind to it You'll even get to meet Morgan Freeman." He had a look on his face like he was trying to contain his laughter.
"Ha ha ha, very funny. But seriously, I'm supposed to be at home binge-watching a Bad and Crazy on Netflix right now. Not getting verbally attacked outside my home by someone who I thought was my friend and coming to a ball to just get attacked out of nowhere, that's being held in Hell nonetheless. Like seriously, I'm down here in Hell riding around in a Porsche with Death like it's nothing. That's not normal."
He shrugged," It's not normal for others, but it is for you."
"Why does it have to be?" I mumbled under my breath.
"Because I'm selfish and I need you. I've been looking for love for years and I just know that you are the one. I can feel it. I won't reminisce about the past because I would lie and say that if never been with anyone. It's too much for me to recount right now but just know that I'm being sincere. It's been centuries since I've felt any emotion other than emptiness. I'm just trying to do right by yes the best way I know how." He said not tearing his eyes off of the road.
"I get it, not the whole centuries part cause I haven't been alive as long as you have, which I didn't need to say because I know you know that. But getting to my point, when I was younger my mother told me that our past defines us. To not let what happened in the past impact your future, especially for the negative. Let it shape you into the future you that you're going to become. If you let the past consume you then you might as well stay in it, because there's no future if you're stuck in the past. I know I don't know you well but if we're going to be in this together then we need to be on the same page. We need rules and boundaries ok." I said.
He nodded, "We'll discuss this more when we get upstairs to the apartment."
I looked out the window and saw that we had made it back to the apartment already.
Guess I was lost in my head after all.
............................................
When we pulled up in the garage, Hoodie quickly parked and we entered the apartment. As I was taking off my shoes, I felt my body starting to shut down from exhaustion.
"Why don't you have a seat in the living room and I'll run us a bath. I know today was very tiring for you, so let's get you relaxed." I heard Hoodie say from behind me.
I nodded my head and slipped on the slippers by the door and headed to the living room, plopping right down onto the couch. I took the mask off of my face and realized that he hadn't given me back the tiara.
I must've fallen asleep because I felt Hoodie softly shaking me and telling me to wake up. When I opened my eyes, he was knelt down right in front of me. He still had his mask on but he took off his jacket and had slightly unbuttoned his shirt.
"Come on sleepyhead, let's get you into the tub and then bed."
I nodded my head and made a small sound of agreement. I put up both of my arms and motioned for him to help me up. I thought he was just going to pull me up but instead he placed his arms around me and picked me up bridal style.
I made a noise of disapproval. "I can walk by myself," I said letting out a yawn, "you can put me down, I'm too heavy for you to be picking me up anyway."
He tsked, "I don't know how many times I have to tell you to stop belittling yourself before it'll get through that thick skull of yours but I won't get on you right now. You're tired and I'll let it slide for right now but quit talking about yourself like that. I don't like it."
I let out a small sorry before he crossed over the threshold of the bathroom. He had filled the tub up to the brim with bubble soap as it looked like it was straight out of aesthetic picture off Tumblr. I could even see some pink rose petals floating on top of some of the bubbles and some were coming out of the tub making a trail towards the entrance of the bathroom. He had even dimmed the lights in the bathroom to a soft pink color. I could hear Voicemail by Khalid ft Kiana Lede was playing in the background faintly.
"It's so pretty in here, how long was I out for you to have been able to do all this," I asked.
He pecked my forehead before he placed me down, "You weren't asleep for that long. It took me about 10 or 15 minutes tops. Here let me help you out of this dress."
I felt him undo my zipper and my dress fell down into a heap at my feet. I heard him take in a deep breath behind me before he kissed my shoulder.
"Down tiger," I said chuckling. I could feel his strong gaze upon me as I slipped off my bra and panties before I stepped into the tub.
I dipped a toe in the water to test the temperature and found that it still had enough heat in it to soothe my muscles. I slid down into the tub and placed myself so that I was facing the door. I let out a sigh, closing my eyes, tilting my head back, and took in the ambiance of it all. When I didn't hear any movement from Hoodie, I peeked one eye open to see him still standing where I left him.
"Aren't you going to get in? And are you gonna leave that mask on the whole time? You know what would be great? If you just took it off, you don't want it to get wet do you?" I asked.
"You can keep asking but you already know the answer. And you know I love saying no to you so keep it up but cute attempt."
I rolled my eyes, "Ugh, I guess. Anyway, this tub is big enough for three people, so get in here." I asked.
He grinned, "Yeah? And who would be the third person?"
I pretended to think, "Jungkook maybe?" I said fighting a smile when I saw his grin fall.
"Ha ha very funny. Just for that, I'm not massaging your feet." He said as he started to strip down.
"Ha, well jokes on you. I don't like having my feet touched anyway. I can barely stand a pedicure, tickles too much." I replied closing my eyes again.
"Well now I'm going to do it anyway," he said before I heard him step into the tub.
He sat adjacent from me and started to massage my calves. I got lost in the feeling of his fingers and the sounds of DeVita's Show Me now playing in the room that I forgot that we were supposed to be having a talk.
"Can't we just have the talk later, look at you babe. You're so relaxed right now, don't you want to keep it that way," I heard Hoodie say.
I sighed before I cracked open both of my eyes.
"Well given that I didn't just say that out loud means that we do need to have a talk," I said trying to remove my leg from his hands but he just gripped me tighter.
"We can talk, doesn't mean you have to move away from me," he said with a cute pout on his face.
I blew him a kiss. "Fine but you need to pay attention. No funny business."
He took a hand out of the water and raised it in a salute, "Ma'am yes ma'am."
I couldn't control my laughter. "Seriously? Anywayyyyy, I know you said that the whole mind reading isn't something that you try and do it just happens. And I believe you when you say that you are working on it but all I ask is that if you read my mind, please don't respond to what I'm thinking. It's hard enough remembering that you can read minds, let alone mine, but to know that you are listening makes me second guess my thoughts even when you aren't around. Like is he listening to me right now? Or can he read my mind no matter how far away he is?"
"I understand where you are coming from, in a sense. It's just it's so tempting to listen in on what you're thinking. I mean no one can read my mind except God and Jin and I hate it when they do because they don't do it gently."
"What do you mean gently?" I interrupted him to ask.
"Well it's more of an answer to your second question. I can hear your mind even when we are apart but it blends in with everyone else's. If I wanted to pinpoint yours from afar, you would feel my presence. I would say it would feel like a throbbing headache at first and if I continue then it could gradually increase into a full blown migraine feeling the further deep I delve in. Only when I'm with you, right beside you, you're mind is clear to me to hear. So I'm not delving deep into your mind. It's why when I showed you your memory you felt no pain." He answered.
"So you mean to tell me each time I had a headache that came out of nowhere, that was just you reading my mind from a distance?" I asked slightly glaring at him.
He gave me a sheepish smile, "Like I said, if I seek your mind out you'll feel pressure. If I do it for too long it could cause headaches, nose bleeds, and even cause you to pass out from the pain. I would never go for that long to cause the latter problems, I know when to stop listening. It's my way of checking up on you without being with you.
And I'll leave your thoughts to you. I won't respond to them anymore. Butttt if I didn't think I would be able to pick you up then I wouldn't have; which fun fact I can lift anything so that'll never be a problem even if you lose or gain any weight. I'll always be able to carry you like you deserve to be carried and held," he poked my forehead with his finger, "so get those thoughts out of your head missy. I won't hesitate to say anything if I hear those thoughts though, I don't know who even put them in your head."
"I'll stop, ok." I muttered.
He kissed my forehead. "Now is that all that you wanted to talk about?"
"What happened tonight at the ball? You left me in that room and then boom it was like a horror movie in there. Next thing I know I'm fighting for my life just to get out of the room out of the door I saw you go out of. Demons grabbing me and trying to kill me. And then when I get out of the room and run into you, the room seems to go back to normal, like nothing even happened." I raised my leg out of the water and just as I expected nothing was there.
"I mean look at my leg. I was dripping blood down into my heels and there's no scar, not even a scratch on me. Those nails felt like they were piercing right through my leg and there's nothing to prove it." I was interrupted by Hoodie exclaiming, "So one of those bastards put their hands on you? What did they look like? How come I missed that." He muttered the last part under his breath so I wasn't able to catch it. He grabbed my leg and started to caress it again.
I shrugged, "I only recall the main one who was speaking to me but I don't think he was the one who did it but I can't be sure. But anyway explain because it's obvious you know what happened. Hell, no pun intended, where did you even go?"
"I was being held up elsewhere having a conversation with Jin. If I would've known that was happening in the room or that there were even demons of that nature in the room, I wouldn't have left you alone. I swear. I do believe you when you say what you went through but are you sure it happened?"
I took my leg out of his grip and sat up straighter in the tub. "Are you trying to say that I made it up? Why would I make something like that up? I was fucking fighting for my life in there and you were in a meeting?! There were demons everywhere trying to take over my body, one even damn near sliced through my leg, and you're saying I made it up?!"
He held his hands up in defense, "Woah chill out ok. It was just a question. I'm just saying that maybe it didn't actually happen. You are a human here in Hell so maybe you were just hallucinating. Some hallucinations can feel so real that it can even feel like someone is touching you but really there's no one there. Being here is probably just messing with your mind," he pulled me closer to him so this time I was straddling his lap. I could feel his erection against my stomach. "So maybe there wasn't any demons or lions in there out to get you. Just your mind being corrupted by being here. We'll leave tomorrow morning ok." He took my face into his hands and pecked my forehead.
I gave him a slight smile.
I never said anything about the lions that were in there. And if I was hallucinating then what was his reaction when I came out of the room for?
He pulled me into a hug and I laid my head on his chest. I started to trace his tattoos on his arms, getting lost in the many tattoos that decorate his arm.
I lifted my head off of his chest and stared into his eyes. His eyes looked like they had a story to tell themselves but I know that he's not opening that much up any time soon. I kept eye contact with him as I asked , "Why do I have a feeling that you're keeping a lot of things from me? I'm a big girl, sometimes, I can handle it so tell me."
He ran his hands up and down my back, "What makes you think that I'm keeping something from you?"
"Because I know you are and I'd rather you just be honest and tell me the truth, now." I said.
"Or what?" he asked, tilting his head to the side.
"What do you mean, or what? I'm not giving you an ultimatum or anything but I will if I have to." I said.
"Mmmm ok. This will be your last question of the night. So what's on your mind right now?" He asked with a smug smile on his face.
"Are you Jungkook?" I asked causing the smile on his face to fall.
..........................................
*Hoodie's POV*
As I drive us to the gala I can't help but steal glances at her as she gazes out the window. She looks stunning in that dress that I picked out for her tonight. She looks like a queen next to me and she should always be by my side.
Before I knew it, we had pulled up in front of the building. Like planned there was no one outside.
"Where is everybody?" She asked.
"I told you we were late, they're all inside. Come on, let's head on in." I got out and let her out of the car, grasping her hand in mine. I hope she couldn't feel the sweat that was forming on my hands. Can you believe Death himself is nervous right now. I haven't felt this nervous in eons and I hope she can't tell. She's way more perceptive than she lets off.
I could tell the bright lights were blinding her lights so I put my arm around her shoulder and shielded her eyes with my hand until we made it inside.
The halls were empty but I could sense a lot of people nearby. I guided her towards the ballroom and stopped in front of them. I could hear people behind the door. I turned to face her and asked her if she was ready. She replied," No. Ready for what?"
I took a deep breath, "This."
I opened the door and saw everyone had stopped talking and was staring at us. I caught Jin's eyes from across the room and he motioned for me to meet him outside.
"Is this some kind of joke? Why is there no one here?" Mahj asked. I knew she couldn't see through the haze just yet so she couldn't see the people in front of her.
I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know there are supposed to be people in here, this is where the event has always taken place. No one said anything about it changing rooms to me but I'll go check out the place and see what is going on. Wait right here." I led her over to one of the tables and motioned for her to sit before I crossed the room towards the exit door. I made sure to silently threaten everyone with my eyes before Jin met up with my stride and placed his hand on my shoulder. When we reached the door, I couldn't help but look back to see her face again. I took her in, knowing this could possibly be the last time I see her. I tried to keep my face stoic but I could tell I wasn't succeeding by the look of confusion on her face.m. "I just want to say that no matter what, I'll always be there for you. Watching over your shoulder for as long as you live. No matter what happens." Jin nudged my shoulder and we walked out the door. Jin locked the door behind us before he turned to look at me. "Are you going to be ok?"
I let out a loud sigh and shook my head, "I don't know this time hyung. I don't know how much longer I can keep going if this doesn't work out this time."
"Come on, let's get you a drink." He suggested.
"It wasn't a question, let's go. We have something to discuss anyway," he grabbed me by my shoulders and led me to his office in the back.
When we got inside, headed over to his mini bar that was by his desk. He started to pour two glasses of scotch when I held my hand up to stop him.
"I said I don't want a drink, I just want to go back and see if she makes it out or not."
He chuckled, "Why do you do this to yourself? Each time you stand by the door and each time she never comes out of it. What's going to be different this time?" He took a sip of his drink before he crossed over took a seat on his desk.
"Well you know how much I like to torture myself so why not keep it up?"
"I hate to see you this way. Last time I didn't even think you'd ever become yourself again. I just don't want what happened last time to happen again."
I shook my head and said, "What happened last time isn't going to happen again. I know this time will be different, I can feel it, she's different than any other."
"Well she's definitely different from the others that's for sure." He said snidely.
I got up from my chair and got up into his face, pointing a finger dangerously close to his eye. I could hear my scythe begging to come out of my pocket but I kept it at bay. "Watch your fucking mouth when you talk about her or I won't hesitate to kill you."
Jin smiled and set his drink down, "I didn't mean that in a bad way, I'm just saying-"
"And I'm just saying watch it." I said interrupting him.
"Come on man, what did you expect? I'm the devil himself, I like to have fun too. But I was saying she was different in a good way, I hope you keep her happy."
"What are you trying to say?" I growled out.
He held his hands up in defense, "Nothing at all. I'm just saying that if she makes it out, it's imperative that you keep her happy. Her happiness affects yours too. Like I said before I don't need a repeat from last time. I almost wasn't able to save your ass from Daddyo. Be smart this time and make sure she's ready because everyone is going to be gunning for her as long as she stays human."
He shrugged his shoulders in defeat, "She's never made it out of the room so I can't tell you. If she makes it out, come back and we'll talk."
I backed up from him and headed towards the door. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and check on her." I opened the door and slammed it shut.
I used the short walk back to try to calm myself down. My scythe was almost burning a hole in my pocket, trying to go after Jin for what he said.
I hadn't realized that I had made back to the room until I heard the door open. My jaw dropped in shock. I can't believe it, she actually came this way. I fixed my expression fast enough before she slowly turned around and faced me.
She threw herself into my arms and said,"Why didn't you come back in there, it felt like I was sitting in there forever and then when I got up there were these creepy voices trying to make me stay in there. And then a creepy shadow man and then demons. Where the hell were you??" She asked, gasping for breath.
I couldn't find any words to say so I just hugged her tighter to me. I could tell me grip was too tight but I didn't care. She pulled back some to look at me but I couldn't handle looking into her eyes just yet. My emotions are still all over the place and I can't so I kept my head casted downwards. She gently placed her hand on my jaw and tilted my head up and I couldn't hold back the single tear that slipped out when we our eyes made contact. I quickly diverted my eyes again and put some distance between us but I kept my arm wrapped around her.
"You made it out," I whispered.
I could see her nod her head, "Yeah, I did. I didn't want to be in there alone anymore so I came to look for you. Are you upset that I made it out? Is that why you left me in there so that I would die?" She asked suspiciously.
I quickly shook his head, "No, it's just you never make it out of the room, but today you did." I couldn't help but let out a sniffle, "I'm happy you did. I knew there was something different about your soul the second I came to collect your soul that day. You're not like those of the past but a new one, the right one."
She grabbed my arm and took it off of her, "What do you mean I never make it out of the room, I've never been here before?" She backed up from me slowly and I knew I had slipped up. She kept backing up, almost fully into the main hallway to get away from me,but I matched her steps.
"It doesn't matter now. Do you know what this means? There's only a few more things that we have to go through and we'll be done with this forever," I said excitedly.
I can't believe this is actually happening right now.
She ripped her mask off and threw it on the ground, throwing the crown down with it. "I don't know what the hell you are talking about but I'm over it. Why are you speaking so cryptically?"
I shrugged his shoulders, "Not speaking cryptically, just not giving you all the details at this time. It's best that everything happens naturally, I've intervened too much already. I'm just so tired that I hoped this time would be the last time and I see now that it is."
"I need to get some air," she said before she walked off from me. I watched her figure go down the hall until I lost sight of her when she turned the corner.
"I'll go and bring her back to you." I heard someone say from behind me before we stood side by side. He handed me her mask and tiara that she threw on the floor. I placed them into my pocket, shrinking them down some so that they would fit.
Without glancing at him I said, "Thanks Hoseok. I'll be waiting at the entrance. No funny business or your next on my shit list."
He laughed, "Gotcha. We'll be back." He walked away and went to go and get her.
......
A few minutes went by before I heard them round the corner. I kept my head down until I heard her get closer to me. We made eye contact and I still couldn't believe that she was here in front of me. I took her in to make sure she was okay but my gaze locked on Hoseok holding her hand. I could feel my anger rising and Hoseok quickly dropped her hand when he followed my gaze.
He put his hands up in defense, " I was just bringing her back to you, dude chill out. I should be mad at you for letting her almost go out into Hell by herself."
I scoffed and walked up to her, taking her softly by the hand and pulling her closer to me. "She wouldn't have gotten far, I would've found her. Thanks for bringing her back to me though, but I won't get the image of you holding her hand out of my head just yet so I suggest you go back to the ball before it starts."
Hoseok gave me a playful glare and had the balls to wink at her before he turned the corner towards the ball.
"And now that's two," I yelled after him.
I heard Hoseok giggle in response," Sue me."
I felt a tug on my hand and I looked down at Mahj," I'm ready to go now." She said.
"We can't go just yet. We still have to make an appearance at the ball and then I promise that I'll take you back to the apartment to go to bed."
She shook her head and took her hand out of my grasp. "What ball? There is no ball. The only thing in the ball room is demons and a shadowy figure who's an unhelpful asshole who likes to play with people's lives I've gathered. There's no way that I'm going back in there."
I walked towards her slowly, "Hey, I promise I'll be by your side the entire time. We'll be in there 10 minutes top, I just need to talk to a couple of people," I cupped her face in my hands and pecked her lips, "I promise when we go home you'll forget all about what happened here and just relax. Come on." I locked eyes with her and used some of my power to calm her down enough for her to agree. The second she nodded a smile broke out on my face.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out her mask, keeping her tiara in my pocket given that she didn't need it anymore. They all know who she is now anyway. I put it back on but I could tell she really want to. I grabbed her hand and interlocked our fingers. After I pushed one of her curls back into her bun, we stopped in front of the doors.
I gave her hand a squeeze for comfort and grabbed the door knob. She hid slightly behind me as I opened the doors and everything looked as it had when we first arrived. I could tell she was in shock because I know this time she could see everything. Only thing I know is that everyone better be on their best behavior now or there will be hell to pay.
After she got over the initial shock of it all and her talking to Yoongi hyung, scaring Hoseok hyung a little, and Jin hyung creeping her out, I knew it was time to go. Me and Jin hyung will have to have a conversation another day. I could tell she was exhausted.
We said our goodbyes and walked towards the exit doors. People greeted me as we walked by but I knew it was out of fear given that no one actually looked at my face. When we reached the door, I placed my hand on the doorknob and opened it. I turned to look at Mahj and said," Wait for me outside for a second, I promise it won't take long I'll keep a hold of your hand if you want me to, I just need to say something real quick."
She sighed but still stepped out, keeping her hand in mine. I slightly closed the door and used some power to keep her from eavesdropping on what I had to say.
"I know no one should dare to look me in the eyes but I can taste the fear in the air. If I find out any of you harmed her in anyway, you'll face a punishment worse than death. You'll wish that I would put you out of your misery but I don't listen to pleas."
I scanned the room and locked eyes with Kai, a lesser demon who I had heard some things about. I could feel the fear rolling off of him in waves. I smirked and sent him a wink before I said, "You. It seems me and you are going to have a talk. Hyungs if you could?"
Kai tried to run but was caught by Yoongi who had him in a chokehold. "We got this, go and take her home."
I nodded and I could tell her curiosity was peaking so I turned around and faced her.
