There aren’t many people left in the world who could fail to recognise Downton Abbey’s Lady Sybil Crawley. Indeed, when the actress Jessica Brown Findlay, who plays Lady Sybil, walked into a movers-and-shakers party in Los Angeles last year, even Tom Hanks came over to pay homage. But today, when I walk into this shoot, I have to confess I hardly recognise her — hair scragged back in a band, wearing skinny jeans and high-heeled loafers, Brown Findlay is a far cry from her corset-shrugging screen persona. Indeed, corsets off, glasses on, Brown Findlay is still able to revel in what may be her last few months of anonymity. “I was walking down the street one day, and I heard this person going ‘Sybil!’ and I thought, ‘What?’ I turned around, and it was Michelle Dockery, who plays Mary. And I realised, ‘Oh, that makes sense.’ But for a moment, I thought, ‘Are you kidding me?’ So, no, I don’t get recognised.”
