after a long, wet and rather miserable winter, spring has finally arrived and the garden is entering that wonderful phase wher everything is coming to life. Two current favourites are the blossom on our little greengage tree and the wonderful hellebore which has been magnificent since february and continues to provide much pleasure with it's dramatic purple flowers.

the first autumn days are always the best. lovely produce harvested from the garden and a gorgeous log fire to snuggle up in front of. let’s hope this wonderful autumn sunshine lasts too.
we're not self sufficient just yet, but we had a great summer in the garden! the vegetable bed is a little experiemental this year - with everything from cucmber to corn and garlic to broad beans! some crops were more successful than others, with the cucumber being a suprise hit. we also produced a record-breaking marrow - more on that later!
happy birthday to my utterly gorgeous niece who turned one this week. this was my home-made gift to her - a little tee pee which is completely reversible so she can have a pink spotty house or a blue floral one depending on her mood. i was a little nervous as i didn't make it from a pattern and i was also worried that it might not be a very interesting present for a one year old seeing as it doens't make any noise or provide much entertainment, but amazingly she absolutely loved it! once she had crawled in she was very content to sit there and hold court and she even allowed her little friend to join her in there at her birthday party! watch this space as i'm seriously considering going into production. they would be a great gift for a little one - a safe, shady spot when they are very small and a great den, hiding place or play house as they get bigger. and they would be very easy to market with models like these ones!

this was an unexpected surprise hidden away in the garden! my mother gave me some rhubarb last year which i’m ashamed to say i rather negelcted, however it turns out it was very happy after all! not quite self sufficient just yet, but it will make a nice pudding with some yoghurt!
