Effect of essential oils in Post surgery care
Background: On both occasions, some soft tissue and bone had to be removed such that a gaping hole and two stitches were observed. In 2014, there was no usage of essential oil namely clove and peppermint was introduced as part of post-operative care. In 2016 clove and peppermint EO was used in rinse and topical application.
Diet consists of solids such as eggs, ham, rice chips and biscuits, as well as liquids such as coffee and water.
Observations will be listed in terms of day 0( day of surgery) to day 4(last day of MC). Under each day will contain care regime and symptoms.
Day 0
2014: popped antibiotics and pain killer pills as directed, thrice a day. Rinse prescribed with mouth wash after meals(stinging). Cold compress. Fitful sleep. Swollen and Soreness. Sleep on unaffected side. Cannot open jaw wide.
2016: popped only one painkiller, and thrice a day antibiotics. Cold compress. Salt+clove+peppermint mouth rinse after lunch and dinner(no sting). Topical application of clove+peppermibt+apricot kernal oil on jawline. Slept like the dead on either side. Effective reduction in swelling and soreness.
Day 1
2014: antibiotics and mouth rinse(radiating sting) thrice a day. Warm compress for 20 minutes. Horrible swelling and soreness. Fitful sleep, cannot sleep on affected side. Cannot open jaw wide.
2016: antibiotics thrice a day. Salt+clove+peppermint rinse and gentle brushing without toothpaste after lunch. Topical application of clove+peppermint+apricot kernel oil along jawline and 20 Min warm compress. Jaw can open wider, hence Flossing,gentle brushing with EO toothpaste was possible.
Tried the prescribed rinse(no sting!!)
Day 2
2014: antibiotics and mouth rinse(mild sting) thrice a day. Reduced swelling and soreness. Deep sleep from exhaustion, cannot sleep on affected side.
2016: antibiotics thrice a day. Topical application clove+peppermint apricot kernal oil before bed. Flossing, gentle brushing with EO toothpaste. Only tender on touch.
Day 3
2014: antibiotics and mouth rinse(Finally no sting) and gentle brushing without toothpaste thrice a day. Reduced swelling and soreness. Deep sleep from exhaustion, cannot sleep on affected side.
Day 4
2014: antibiotics and gentle brushing with commercial toothpaste(stings) thrice a day. On and off soreness.
