Blasphemous Liturgy was formed in 2003 by MarcĆ¼s Leitner GĆ³mez, also known by his artistic name, Morgoth.
It was a project he had been thinking about for a long time, but he never found āthe right peopleā to make it real. It remained more of a fantasy than something that will come out as reality.
Until he meet Bittor, his new housemate. He had started renting out one of the rooms in his house in Madrid to earn a bit of money to donate to a cat rescue center where he volunteered.
Later, they decided to accept TobĆas into the band, and three years later they got their first vocalist, Lucas.
The sound they wanted for the band was rooted in old-school/90s black metal. Their lyrics focused on themes such as satanism, demonology, hate, anti-christianism, war, misanthropy, philosophy, and death.
It was rare for them to touch on self-harm, depression, or suicide, since they were not a DSBM bandāand Marco never wanted it to be perceived as such. They would NEVER address anything related to politics. Theyāre not a political band.
Bittor disagreed with this, as he identified as a skinhead and wanted Blasphemous Liturgy to lean more towards RABM.
Their label was created by Guillermo, the owner of a small record store Marco frequently visited. Guillermo greatly admired Marcoāalmost like a follower. He desperately wanted to be Marcoās friend, always addressing him as Mongoth and refusing to sell what Marco would call āposer musicā.
While Guillermo genuinely sought friendship, Marco only saw him as the record store guy who worshipped him and fed his ego. He even treated him poorly at times, knowing full well Guillermo wouldnāt do anything about it.
Born in Mairena del Aljarafe, Andalusia (02/09/1980)
Half Austrian, half Andalusian, Marco was born into an old money, wealthy family with a nazi heritage. From a young age, he was exposed to a belief in superiorityārooted in both his familyās wealth and, indirectly, in being considered āaryan.ā
His entire family studied something related to health, and so did heāfollowing in his fatherās footsteps by studying psychology. However, his dream job has always been, and will forever remain, to be a history teacher.
After his father ended up in jail for SA several of his underage patients at the mental institution he owned and worked in as a therapist, Marco fell into a deep depressionāone he was already slowly sinking into. With his father gone, and specially for that reason things got worse. He started taking refuge on the internet, where he found comfort in Satanism and stumbled across forums that recommended satanic black metal. For the first time, he felt welcomed in a space that shared his hatred towards religion. He has never told anyone, but he was sexually assaulted by a well-known friend of his fatherāa priest.
He later moved to Madrid to study psychology. In his third year, he decided to rent out rooms in his house to financially support a local cat rescue center where he secretly volunteers. Thatās how he met Bittor. They donāt really care about each other and only spend a minimal amount of time together. They see each other as housemates, not friends.
One day, he was at Guilleās record store and saw Tobi wearing his nu metal merch. He threatened to beat the fuck out of him for being a poser. They got into a physical fight, but Guille stopped them. Toby walked away, and Marco just went home like nothing had happened. Later, they printed some flyers to look for a rhythm guitarist. Tobias showed up for the audition and proved to be even better at playing guitar than Marco. They decided to make him the lead guitarist. He moved in with them, and thatās how their story as a band started. (Yes, without a vocalistāMarco was supposed to be the singer but never ended up singing because he was too shy)
Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Euskadi ā 26/09/1983.
Son of a Polish woman and a Basque man, raised in a middle-class household. He has an older half-sister (different father) whom he loves unconditionally.
Bittor never cared about his Polish heritage. Heās always identified strongly with his Basque roots and culture ā something controversial during his youth, due to the presence and stigma of the ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna). While he participated in some Basque independence marches, often in aggressive ways, he never supported ETA. Heās always defended Euskadiās independence from Spain, but from a perspective that avoids harming its people
Originally, he wanted to study Basque philology, but his parents pressured him into studying Hispanic philology first, with the plan of taking a masterās in Basque later. His goal was ā and still ā to become a Basque language teacher at an Ikastola (schools that teach all subjects in Euskera, instead of Spanish).
He ended up renting a room in Marcoās house when he moved to Madrid for university. It was cheap, which made him happy ā though he hated the rich neighborhood. Still, it was a roof.
Bittor has Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) ā & suffers from violent, unpredictable outbursts of anger.
Heās a skinhead, and mostly listens to bands from the Basque Country, like Kortatu, La Polla Records, Lendakaris Muertos, Eskorbuto...
He joined Blasphemous Liturgy after Marco told him he wanted to start a band. Bittor mentioned he had played drums since childhood, and offered to be the drummer.

TobĆas wasnāt born in a big city or into a wealthy family. In fact, he wasnāt even born with that nameāheās a trans man. He was raised in a poor, working-class neighborhood, but that didnāt stop him from having a happy childhood full of good memories. His best friendās father owned the local bar, and he would let his older son, CristĆ³bal (Tobiās bestie), sing while Tobi played the guitar.
That was his first real contact with music. As he got older, he started listening to rap and what was then known as nu metal. He tried hard to sound like the bands he admired, but his Spanish guitar just couldnāt replicate that distorted electric guitar sound.
By the age of 18, he decided to hitchhike to Madrid. He was tired of his family not accepting him as a man and not supporting his dream of becoming a musician, so he ran away. But Madrid wasnāt as welcoming as he had hoped. Just as he arrived and went into a record store, Marco picked a fight with him.
One night, while trying to sleep in a park (since of course, he was homeless), he saw a flyer that caught his eyeāsomeone was looking for a guitarist for a metal band. He decided to audition, only to find out, that the bandās leader was none other than Marco.
Lucas, unknown last name, unknown birth date.
Lucas was the last member to join the band, becoming the vocalist in 2006.
He always carried a strange energy ā like he was anxious to do something, but never spoke about it or explained himself. The rest of the band assumed it was just his mental illness influencing his behavior.
His childhood was a disaster. His father abandoned his mother as soon as he found that she was pregnant, leaving her to raise him alone at just 16. At that time, it was incredibly difficult for someone so young to raise a child, so her behavior was often seen as neglectful.
At school, nobody wanted to be his friend. The parents of his classmates looked down on his mother, who had gained a bad reputation for turning to prostitution in order to survive.
During his pre-teen years, Lucas began using drugs and self-harming. Eventually, the government intervened, helping his mother place him in a mental institution to get a diagnosis and treatment for his mental health. He was sent to Leitner Hospital, owned by Marcoās father, Otto Leitner ā a man who would sexually abuse Lucas and other patients for a long time before finally being caught.
Lucas remembers everything ā and sometimes he can still feel it. But what he remembers most is the āhappy familyā photo on Ottoās desk: a blonde boy smiling with pride, as if he enjoyed what was happening to Lucas and the others.
When Otto was sentenced to prison, Lucas was left an empty shell ā no soul, no innocence, no dignity. He was worse than before and no longer wanted to live. But before ending his life, he made himself a promise: to find that blonde boy in the photo, take his life, and make him pay for what his father had done.
