All set for my intervention of Jan St. Werner’s (Mouse on Mars) “Felder” album project at Survival Kit​ this Saturday. It’s an honor to be a participant alongside an impressive roster of talented artists whom I have great admiration for.

My intervention “Felder: Dissected & Reassembled for 16 Channels” consists of 2891 unique audio elements of varying length meticulously edited from the source sounds of Jan’s album over the past several months.  Those 2891 elements are then multiplied by 16 for the sixteen channels.  Making it a total of 46,256 potential elements interacting.

The ratio of audible elements to silent elements was carefully adjusted to create a dynamic & evolving environment that breaths as it crawls it’s way around the space.

This was a challenging & rewarding process working with already existing sounds for an installation.  For other installation projects I have always designed my own sounds from the ground up specifically engineered for this system.  So coercing a traditional album into this system was a totally new approach for me.  A wonderful experience.

The installation opens to the public at 5pm and runs for 4 hours until 9pm followed immediately by a reception featuring performances by synthesist & sound artist Bbob Drake​ and new music ensemble The Syndicate for The New Arts​.
