âYou did your bestâ isnât saying âyou put in 110% and thatâs what counts.â Itâs saying that at the moment what you could make happen resulted in the outcome you got.
For example, say I didnât reach my step goal. Regardless of my highest step count, I did my best because I took the highest amount of steps that my body was willing to take.
Say I got a B on a test. When I was taking the test, factors such as ease of the class, stress, fatigue, anxiety, etc is determining what my best is and thus my best efforts today result in a B.
Stop beating yourself up for âyour bestâ not being a constant improvement. You donât need to take more steps today than you did yesterday. You donât need to get a B+ because you got a B last time. You need to be proud of yourself because you are constantly working hard and getting results, because that is what truly mattersâ trying.

you need food in order to survive.
you need water in order to survive.
you need sleep in order to survive.
you donât have to do anything special or significant to âearnâ these things. you donât have to meet some quota of productivity before youâre âallowedâ to do these things. you are allowed to eat, drink, and sleep when you need to. you donât have to do anything additional in order to have the right to meet your bodyâs most basic needs.

I was talking to my mom the other day, and she said she was going to start going to the gym, because its important care for your body. Iâm disabled w/ multiple chronic illnesses, so going to the gym is impossible for me. She seemed to realize this, and started to backtrack, saying like - its part of taking care of herself, and I interrupted and said, âIts okay mom. You and I taking care of ourselves look very differentâ. And thats what I would like you to know.
Taking care of yourself looks different.Â
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like fruit smoothies and gym visits, cutting out sugar and weight training.
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like hospital visits, feeding tubes and ports. Needles and tests.
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like taking medication and lying down in a cool dark room.
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like getting any calories in their body that they can.
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like adding in more vegetables and trying to go outside to get sun more often.
For some people, taking care of themselves looks like seeing a therapist, keeping symptom journals, and practicing mindfulness, meds, or grounding techniques.Â
We all have different needs. Please donât feel bad about how you care for yourself just because someone else is able to do âmoreâ, or their care is more performative or obvious. Please donât look down on someone for caring for themselves in a way that you do not. Medication and rest are just as important as exercise and vegetables.
Keep doing your best to care for yourself, the best way you know how. Your self care and health is important, no matter what it looks like.Â
I hope you wake up early up enough in the morning to put on your favorite outfit and make your favorite breakfast. I hope you find your skin clear and hair healthy. I hope youâre content with the way your body looks. I hope you find happiness in small things today. I hope that, even with your ups and downs, you are content with yourself.Â

Negative Effects CBT Work
Negative effects of not eating well/purging: - Sore hands and throat. - Feeling dizzy, shaky, cold, light headed, tired, sick or hungry. - Getting irritable or grumpy. - Muscle cramps & spasms from low electrolytes. - Risk of fainting. - Risks of stomach ulcers, heart attacks, stomach ruptures etc. âEmpty feels safe; comfort blanketâ Not eating well, or purging creates things that are a problem, and I rate these at 90% importance. Negative effects of eating well: - Bloating & constipation. - Heightened worry/anxiety. - Weight gain. - Feeling out of control, loss of coping mechanisms. - Feeling full or too fat.
Eating well creates things that are a problem, and I rate these at 70% importance.

Many of my perceived negative effects of eating well are only feelings, and feelings arenât fact. Also, things like bloating and constipation are only temporary and will pass in due course once I am on the right track long term. Some of the effects of not eating well or purging are life threatening.
Iâm having a hard time remembering this tonight, so incase you need reminding too:
You are more than the things they said to you/about you
You are more than the things they did to you
You didnât deserve it
You wonât ever forget it, but one day you will be able to live with it.
My therapist told me something meaningful yesterday, she said âItâs important to remember that when youâre depressed you have to nurse yourself and be extra gentle towards yourself. Just like an athlete wouldnât break an ankle then force themselves to run that ankle. They rest as it heals and do not think âI am a failed atheleteâ they think, âright now something isnât working so iâll take care of myself until it does.âÂ
Just like a broken bone, depression can change the way your daily life plays out, and pushing yourself too hard and getting frustrated when you donât feel better is just like trying to run on that broken ankle and getting frustrated when it doesnât heal.

Things I Need To Remind Myself:
- I am loved by my family and friends, therefore I am not unloveable.
- I am worthy of life; if I wasnât, Iâd be left alone to destroy myself.
- Iâm NOT a burden; people are willingly wanting to help me.
- I AM cared about; it upsets people to see me hurting.
- Itâs okay to have a set back; just have to dust myself off and try again.
âTHE BEST PRO-ANA TIPS ON THE WEB!! 1) Turn off all the heat in your house and open the windows wide. Walk around in short sleeves and dip your fingers and toes in bowls of ice water every 10-15 minutes. This will do nothing to help you lose weight but it will help train you for the misery that anorexia brings in the form of being constantly cold. You are not allowed reprieve from this âfeel the coldâ stage as you will never be warm again until you recover. 2) Visit your hairdresser and ask her to pluck 25-50% of the hair from your head. While youâre at it ask her to over-process your hair with whatever chemicals she had on hand. If the over-processing makes you lose even more hair thatâs even better. This step will get you used to the dry, brittle, falling out hair youâll have once youâre nutrient deprived. 3) If you plan on purging you should visit your dentist and ask them to grind all the enamel off your teeth. While there also ask if they can pull out a couple of existing fillings. Your teeth will be wrecked soon anyway so you may as well get a head start and learn what it feels like to have super sensitive teeth once your enamel is gone. 4) Ignore all your friends. Donât tell them why. Donât do anything that would give them a chance to try and stop you from cutting them out. You will likely feel utterly miserable. Learn to expect that. You will feel miserable during every day of your eating disorder anyway. The loneliness is a key part of this misery. 5) If youâre in school you should throw away all your textbooks and order their equivalents in a foreign language. This stage will get you started on the cognitive difficulties you will suffer once malnutrition sets in. In a few months of anorexia you will feel like everything is in a foreign language anyway since you canât read it because your malnourished brain has made you stupid. 6) If you have a job ask your boss to start withholding half your pay. With the amount of sick days you have once your e.d. is bad, youâre going to lose half of your pay anyway. This will help you get used to that. In 3 months you should quit your job with no backup plan. This will let you know what it feels like to be fired because your e.d. made you a lousy employee. 7) Throw away your calendar. Stop asking people their name. Leave your backpack and purse at home every time you go out. You need to learn what itâs like to live without a memory. As well as making you stupid malnutrition will rob you of your memory. Stand up every ten minutes to make sure you turned off the kettle/iron/tap. You know you are forgetful and you are anxious about that. Do this all day every day. You will soon forget why anyway as your memory becomes utterly useless. 8) Throw away all your moisturizer, body wash, anything that makes your skin soft and lovely. Like your hair you need to feel what itâs like for that to be dry and fragile. Think back to the last time you fell down a flight of stairs. With your malnourished body and skin you will feel like that every single day. You will wake up bruised and aching and scraped and you wonât know why. The answer is your e.d. The answer to all misery is your e.d. 9) Lock yourself in a dark room. Put up spotlights everywhere else in the house. Do not shower. Do not even wash your face. Play music that makes you sad. When itâs time for bed play a CD of a jackhammer. The ED will rob your ability to sleep well and you need to experience that. If all of this sounds like tortureâŚit is. With this ED you will be sad, and scared, and panicked all the time. This emotional hell will rob you of the ability to do tasks as simple as brushing your teeth. 10) Write a list of every good thing you want out of life. Burn it. As long as you have an eating disorder that is all you will have. You will watch every good thing go up in smoke.â
