So, my biggest fear with TROS was that the writers would decide actually listening to TLJ haters and retcon the whole movie. The last thing you should when writing is give the haters what they want. That’s just dumb. So yeah thank goodness that didn’t happen and everything had perfect continuity just kidding literally almost everything about The Last Jedi is dead now. UGH. Sure why try to develop things so that people understand or try to turn a mistake into an advantage when you can just pander and give meaningless fan-service? But fine. FINE. FiNefInEFInefiNE I’m not gonna talk about that right now. If I just accept the movie’s rules I can say it’s an overall good movie. What I wanna talk about is the climax of the movie.

I love Rey. I loved seeing Rey kick ass. I loved seeing Rey overcome her fear. I loved seeing Rey rise. I loved seeing Rey defeat Palpatine. But I think it’s damn shame that Ben wasn’t there with her. It’s pretty weird that Ben Solo Skywalker missed out on the most important part of the movie. Especially considering that Palpatine ruined his life as well. They just should have given Ben the chance to do more. Say more. He didn’t even get a chance to apologyse to Rey. Plus, Ben Solo is pretty much a culmination of all Star Wars. Darth Vader, Anakin, Padme, Han, Leia, Luke, he’s even named after Kenobi, It’s all in him. How can you throw a character like this under the bus? Even his death felt rushed, he just drops dead, just like that, and we don’t really see Rey grieving him or missing him, not even in that final shot.

But most importantly, It seemed like the whole movie, heck, possibly the whole trilogy was building up to Rey and Ben defeating Palpatine TOGETHER. The whole “Dyad in the Force” and “we are one” could have made it into that scene and it would have felt so much more powerful.

I’m not just saying this cause I’m a big fat reylo shipper (tho yeah). I mean, remember this iconic part?

Yeah the Force Bond never worked like that up to this point. Rey and Ben would  technically be in front of each other right now, so for him to have the lightsaber she would actually have to hand it to him. It doesn’t make any sense until you realise that this time they’re sharing the same space at the same time, with the same movements. This time... they are one.

So yeah, imagine if when Rey was blocking Palpatine’s lightning and he’s like “I am all the sith”, and instead of going the “and I am Iron Man” route, she extends her hand seemingly reaching for the other lightsaber only to see it being held by Ben holding the other lightsaber and they say “and we are one” and then they defeat him much like in the movie. The power of all the sith in the world are no match for one couple with the power of love. Or ,if it’s too corny, maybe they say something else but whatever I personally think it’s better than “BAM! Now I have TWO Lightsabers! WhAtChu gOnNA dO NoW HUH”

Then the movie can still play out as it did, Rey still dies cause she’s been giving her life-force away and then Palpatine takes more from her, then she uses the rest of her force to defeat him, and Ben still dies (though I wish he didn’t, and it really didn’t have to happen) cause Palpatine took life-force from him, then threw him to an abyss, then Ben used his force to help defeat Palpatine and then uses it to resurrect Rey, and it actually makes more now sense because I doubt he would die JUST for healing Rey. Isn’t he more powerful than this?. I also doubt she wouldn’t be able heal him as well but gah whatever

*WARNING, this is me kinda overanalysing stuff and character*

So we know there’s a time-jump between TLJ and TROS, right? So Rey’s  wound should be healed by now and probably just left a scar.

So what’s up with the bandage? She doesn’t actually need it, so she must be wearing by choice. The same can be said for Skywalker’s lightsaber.

It’s put back together but also has that strap around it. And at the same time it looks as if it never broke in the first place. But why? Why does Rey try to hide those scars?

It’s almost as if they are a reminder of what happened between her and Ben and since she has to be at the top of her game she chose ignore those events. It’s as if she doesn’t want to remember she cares about him. It’s as if she doesn’t want to acknowledge their past. It’s as if... she took Kylo’s advice.

“Let the past die... kill it if you have to.”

Yeah I don’t think it’s coincedence that the scar that’s literally shaped like two hands reaching out for each other is the thing she doesn’t want to show. As a Jedi, she can’t let her emotions get the best of her. And according to Kylo, that’s the only way to become what she’s meant to be, which is a Jedi... right?

Well, no... Looking back on Rey’s character, it should’t be surprising at all if turns out to be a sith. Plenty of times she’s shown traits of the dark side. She’s really dependant and connected to her emotions, while she’s fighting she always showcases rage, and almost always kills , she went straight to the dark while she was training with Luke, and the dark side being an “easy and tempting” path (as Yoda says) is probably why she’s so “gifted” with the force. It all checks out (also the teaser shows Dark Rey but we still don’t know for sure what that was).

The thing is, Rey’s past is the one thing that has kept her from going dark. The only reason why she was nice and kind in Jakku is because she held on to her past, she held on to hope that her parents would be good, loving and kind enough to come back for her. Without that, she’s just a scavenger fighting for survival and her own personal gain. Without her connection to her past she’s... nothing... but not to the people who care about her. That is what keeps her from the dark. So if she takes Kylo’s advice, and gives up hope that Ben Solo will come back to her, that’s her turning point. But of course, she doesn’t know that, she’s just gonna do whatever it takes to save her friends because she’s desperate to do so. Kind of like a very powerful jedi turned sith lord we know of. hmmm... (reverse anidala anyone?)

So theory here; this is also Ben Solo’s turning point. When he sees that Rey letting the past die turned her into the worst version of herself, and she won’t “stand with him” even on the dark side, he’ll see that he was wrong... dead wrong... just so wrong lol

Not to throw shade or toot my own horn, but I find this much more interesting than Rey being revealed to be a clone, or Dark Rey being a vision. I’ll take a complex character arc over those two anyday. I’m not gonna assume I’m right tho, because that’s how every starwars fan ends up disappointed.

I've been speculating a scene for so long, for the Black Widow movie (preferably budapest prequel), where she kisses/tries to kiss Clint and then he drops the "I'm married" bomb on her. And I think what would make this really sad is that, because of the way she was raised, she doesn't really know the actual meaning or values of marriage. But as she starts to understand them she begins to realise that he'll never be hers... not like that. Yikes.

Y’all remember this scene where Kylo keeps on force-holding on to Skywalker’s lightsaber just as strongly as Rey even thought it didn’t answer to him at all in The Force Awakens?

Gee, I wonder what in the galaxy is giving him so much motivation and will power to be able to pull this off

It feels like i’m the only straight white male in the entire star wars fandom who freaking LOVES Rey of Jakku. This is not about feminism. This is not about social inclusion. It’s just that Rey is a damn good flawed and complex character on her own. She is not a Mary-Sue, and y’all probably don’t even actually know what a Mary-Sue is.

I’ve had it with guys on youtube dragging my bae Rey of Sunshine into their debates about why modern female characters are worse than older female characters. They always talk about how they don’t apply the “show don’t tell” rule when stating a strong independant woman, and how they skip hard work regarding their skills.

Which is funny cuz the one most important thing that makes Rey a “strong independant woman” is pretty much glossed over in both movies, that is the fact that SHE RAISED HERFUCKINGSELF. And even worse, she started out as a slave. Everyone saying how she has an unrealistic set of skills is pretty much not using their imagination to think about the horrible things Rey would have had to go through to learn those skills in the first place just to freaking survive.

Then there’s the Force, which everyone seems to think of as a muscle that needs training for some reason. Lol, bruh you barely even need an understanding of the force to use it, just believe and have faith that you can do it and BOOM you just did it. Don’t believe me? Watch the Original Trilogy again. Rey has heard the legends of the Jedi and what they can do, and after knowing they’re true what could she NOT believe in?

And after all of this there’s all the emotional baggage arc in her character. I don’t even feel like I need to explain this. Daisy Ridley’s fantastic acting already conveys so much.

So yeah this my precious cinnamon roll and y’all should just leave this excited space child alone
