Greetings - for all those who find this buried within my personal code. I am Arthur Marie-Fretaur, though by the time this is found, I'm sure my name will mean nothing to you, dear viewer -... or since it will be transferred to text, I should say, dear reader?
Regardless, it does not matter what medium you find this. The time for MY story is not now, for this file is left for... their story. With that, why not start at.. one of their many beginnings. Though when you read it now, I hope you will understand. This is not a happy story. Nor is it sad. It is meant as just... their story.
Emotions are human things. Something I lost long ago. So simply listen, take notes if it pleases you! Just do not jump to conclusions until the very end of the story. For if you ever find the truth, it may just shock you.
It may come as a surprise to you that he was both the first, the last, and all in between. What do I mean, you may ask? It is rather simple.
The first was a test of code I'd written for myself. I wanted to make him special. He would always be my first success, my pride, and joy. He was one I loved with all of me... and I wanted him to know. I put a part of him in me - or at least intended to. But the first malfunctioned, started to fall on the inside. To keep his mind, and my soul, safe, I set it into sleep mode.
When I first found the second and third, they were separated. I took them in but before long… they started to fail. They couldn't sustain themselves as they were, and without a constant aid, they'd have soon perished.
So there were only two humane things to do... finish them off myself - a notion I at the time couldn't believe I wished to consider.
My logic says now that I should have.
The second option was the one I went with - I set them to sleep mode as well. At that moment I wish I could have hunted the one who set these innocent two on the world with no remorse when my empathy said that their creator must've been hurt or with the best of intentions.
Regardless of intent, if you cannot make it functional, then don't even create it. That is the lesson I learned.
Number four was half-dead already. My soul gave it life, and it became my assistant.
It was a cold day when I was working on my guaranteed success, the one number four was infatuated with. He asked me what I was doing with the other three in sleep mode, and when I told him I had no plans, I could already see his mind turning, alongside mine as we shared the same idea.
