How I healed from my last breakup:
1. Talk. Find someone in your life that will allow you to lean on them for support. It is extremely important to have a person in your life to check up on you because you WILL try to push everyone out of your life. Talk it out, even when you donāt want to. Iām the type of person that will try and convince you that Iām okay when Iām absolutely NOT. Itās okay to be hurting.
2. Force yourself to get up in the morning. For me, it was so incredibly hard to get up. The nights were bad but the mornings were even worse. I would just lay there staring at the ceiling, crying. Replaying old memories over and over in my head. You just have to keep telling yourself to get up.Ā
3. Get dressed up. For me, I didnāt allow myself to look unpresentable, even though I was hurting so bad. I forced myself into the shower, I forced myself to do my hair, put on a little makeup, and wear a nice outfit. As superficial as it may seem, it was just something that helped me feel even a tiny bit better. It distracted me for just a little bit. And i was looking for all the distractions I could find.Ā
4. Pick up more shifts at work. The first week of my breakup, i picked up 40 hours at work. Again, this allowed me to be distracted. Of course, the memories and thoughts always creep in and that is inevitable but working helps. If you donāt have a job, get one.Ā
5. Surround yourself with others. This is similar to #1, but pushing everyone away from you is only going to do more damage. You cannot be alone right now because it only encourages you to sit there and wallow away. I remember that I removed myself from every single group chat that I was in because every time my phone would vibrate, my heart fluttered a little thinkingĀ āoh my god maybe itās him texting me saying he regrets everythingā. And each time, my heart sank more and more. Donāt do that to yourself. You can allow your friends to be there for you.
6. Please take care of yourself. I lost 5 pounds by not eating for an entire week. And when i say that I didnāt eat, I really did not eat. I just completely lost my appetite to the point where I think 4 days in, I looked at myself in the mirror as I was getting changed and I got scaredĀ by how frail I looked. Please take care of yourself.Ā
7. Decide if you are the rebound type. As selfish as it sounds, itās okay to allow yourself to be distracted by someone else. I would be upfront and let the person know that youāre not looking for anything serious, but you are not a bad person for allowing someone else to treat you like you are special, even if it is temporary.
8. Remind yourself not to give up on loveā¦I was so angry after my breakup that I told myself constantly that love was a complete illusion. Itās mad up, people just trick themselves into thinking that they love someone. To by honest, Iām still waiting for someone to change my mind about that but I know it doesnāt help to by cynical.
9.Ā Ā Stop stalking his social media. And stop checking to see if heās stalking yours as well. Block him if you have to.Ā
10. Glow tf up. Not just physically, but mentally.Ā Go to the gym, but also work on your mental health. Look good, feel good. Positive thoughts. The happiness will begin to radiate out of you once you allow yourself to be happy.
