24/365 Unrelated note, I have been spending a lot of my free time teaching myself English grammar. I had no idea how completely awful my understanding of the English language was until I started to read into this grammar thing a bit more. Clauses, participles, infinitives, oh my! Honestly, after the first two weeks it starts to make a lot more sense, and I’d suggest any functioning adult who doesn’t have a strong grip on English grammar to brush up. 20/365 (Jan 20, 2019) So, in terms of professional work, my wedding films have been a huge part of my life. Most filmmakers give wedding work a lot of flak, but I honestly really enjoy the work. It’s important and meaningful work capturing one of the most important days in a couple’s life. You only get one shot at it, and the work you do for your clients is something they intend to hold on to and cherish forever. There’s very little work in this world that is so important to people that they’ll love it for the rest of their lives. 17/365 (Jan 17, 2019) Like I’ve said, I’m a filmmaker at heart-or maybe a storyteller-and the hardest part about juggling all these passions is being patient. Being a father, husband, and creative means spreading yourself extremely thin across your entire life. You need to be ready to move slow. There’s only so much time in one day, and balancing your responsibilities means you’re not going to be crushing goals every single day. You’re going to be slowly chipping away at them, and most of the time you won’t even feel like you made a dent in your goals. 16/365 (Jan 16, 2019) This is me, on the set of a short film that I’ve been sort of sitting on for a year now. I have all this raw footage, I’ve made three or four different “short films” out of it, nothing that has ever felt complete, and I still want to revisit it. I have enough to make an extremely short film, and with every edit I simplify the story more and more. It’s become a great way to flex my filmmaking muscles, especially because I don’t have much time to do more filming right now. I think there is still a really great super short film in there, it’s just a matter of fleshing it out, and being patient.
