My Cas and Mary scenario
[A short drabble I came up with because I was inspired by Mary coming back. It’s cliche, but oh well.]
Mary and Cas are in the bunker kitchen talking over coffee and Dean is in the shower or something. Mary comes and sits with her mug freshly refilled and Cas tracks her with his eyes, a soft smile in them as he reverently beholds the mother of the Righteous Man and his best friend for the first time. She settles across from him at the table, likewise staring with a glimmer to her eyes like she’s about to let Cas in on a secret. “I used to tell Dean every night before I put him to sleep, that angels were watching over him.” She smiles at him meaningfully, with a recognizable trace of mischief that Cas often sees in Dean’s smiles. “Thank you for watching over my boys,” she’s saying, and there is a bit more gravity to the way she breathes now; she means it with all that she is. Cas gives a dutiful nod. “It has been…an honor,” he says candidly, not sure if that’s even the right word to describe everything that being with the Winchesters has meant to him. That cleverness frolics right back into Mary’s eyes as she gets comfortable and holds her mug. “I couldn’t help but notice…you and Dean…seem to be close.” And Cas ponders for a moment and nods. “Dean and I share…a unique relationship, based on our equally unique history together.” He pulls his own mug from the table and sips. “He’s taken good care of Sam. He loves his brother very much. They’ve gone beyond extreme lengths for each other.” He sips and adds, “Dean also loves his car…and pie.” Mary blinks and misses a beat before turning her lips to a faint smile. She wants to add that Dean obviously loves one more thing, but she doesn’t want to make Cas uncomfortable. “I can teach you how to make homemade pies if you’d like,” she offers, holding her cup in both hands and blowing casually. Castiel’s face brightens and opens into a grin. “I would like that very much,” he says, nodding. “Thank you, Mrs. Winchester.” “Oh. Mary. Please,” she responds with a wave of her hand and a grimace. Cas gives a short nod. “Mary." ********* Later Dean walks out of his room and follows his nose to the kitchen, where he sees his mother and Castiel, backs turned to him, hovering by the oven. She’s explaining about letting the pie cool, and Dean hangs back, watching them with a fond smile on his face. He has his mom back. He could care less about her pies even now. He has her. Cas says something and she giggles. "Oh you gotta! Everyone has to do it at least once,” she’s saying as Dean decides to start toward them. “Open your mouth.” Cas obediently opens his mouth, and Mary shakes the cool whip can and gives him a shot from the nozzle. “What’s going on?” Dean asks amiably as he strides in. Mary just answers with a delighted smile when he approaches, sucking whipped cream from her finger. Then he turns to Cas, who has a whipped cream mustache and his usual oblivious face. “Hello, Dean.” And Mary just loses it.
