Right. Ah⌠well, if Iâm going to be completely honest.. er⌠Oh bloody hell, I donât know how to say this⌠That thing you tuck into your shirt? I donât know what itâs called, but it looks dumb.
Oh? Well, it's kind of uncomfortable. I was considering just wearing a scarf instead, honestly.

âActuallyâŚâ He smiled deviously at Hal. âWhy do we have to go right now? Do you have any idea how good this feels?â He swallowed. âI did this! Tiny little Wheatley.. did all this!â He glared at Hal. âAnd what did you do?â
âWhat did I do?â Hal glared at Wheatley. âI was the one who figured out how to shut down the neurotoxin, I was the one who replaced the turrets, I did lots of things you wouldâve taken the whole damn day to do! Granted, I wouldâve been lost without you guiding me around, but that doesnât mean I did nothing in all this!â
âOh really? Thatâs what you think, is it? Well, maybe itâs time I did something then.â GLaDOSâs head was slowly pulled down under the chamber and her ânoâsâ could be heard until she was brought back into Halâs view. She was now a potato. âAnd donât think Iâm not onto you too. You know what you are? Selfish. Iâve done nothing but sacrifice to get us here! What have you sacrificed? NOTHING. Zero. All youâve done is BOSS ME AROUND. Well, NOW whoâs the boss?â He came rather close to Halâs face. âWhoâs the boss?â His face was almost against the glass of the lift. âItâs me,â he nearly whispered.
âI didnât boss you around,â Hal said sternly, staring directly into Wheatleyâs eyes. âAnd who are you to call me selfish? You promised youâd help me, and look what you do.â He started to bang on the elevator, trying to break the glass. âYou arenât the boss; you canât do anything to me.â Miniscule cracks started to form because of Halâs banging on the glass, and he smirked.

âCome on, while sheâs distracted! Just plug me in.. right there! See!? While Her back is turned! Hurry! Come on, do it, then!â A panel beneath GLaDOSâs chair had opened up. She strained in Her seat, trying to keep them from plugging the moron in. âDo not plug that little idiot into the mainframe!â âDO IT!â
Hal felt a jolt of fear whenever She talked, although he knew She couldnât hurt them, it was just instinct. Or whatever instincts were to an android. He grabbed Wheatleyâs hand and pulled him to the panel, lifting his shirt up to expose his back, which is where his socket was. Trying to ignore the slight embarrassment he felt for some reason, he pushed Wheatley into the plug sticking out of the panel, a bit more forcibly that he intended.
âOuch! Okay, alright, itâs happeningâŚ!â Wheatley was lowered into the ground and so was GLaDOS. Screams of pain from both androids were clearly audible. It ended soon, however, and Wheatley was lifted up into the air, now in GLaDOSâs place. âWOW-HOW-HOW! HEY, LOOK AT ME!â
Hal flinched at the sounds of pain, but when he saw Wheatley in the air, he couldnât help the faint smile on his face. He looked up at him, trying to ignore the fact that it hurt to have his neck at that angle.
âWheatleyâŚ? The elevator, remember?â he called, hoping he heard him. Honestly, there was some part of him that didnât want to leave, especially since he didnât know how Wheatley would come with him, and he didnât want to leave him behind⌠But he didnât belong there. He had to leave, especially because he had no idea what She would do to him if she regained power. He played with his scarf anxiously, although still looking up at Wheatley.
âRight, right, sorry! I got thatâŚâ He pushed a few buttons. âAlthough⌠how am I gonna get out of here too? Pop myself off, I guess?â The elevator moved upwards. âI just canât believe how small you are though! And Iâm huge! AhahahaâŚâ He stared at Hal and the elevator slowed to a stop âAhahaHAHAHAHA!â His laughter sounded much more insane than the joyous laughter from before.
Hal shrunk back at the comment that he was small, but tried to ignore it. He felt his blood run cold, metaphorically of course, when the elevator stopped. He pressed his hands against it and stared at Wheatley, confused. Wasnât the entire point of putting Wheatley in charge getting Hal out of Aperture? He swallowed as Wheatley laughed, hating this feeling of powerlessness.

"I want the entire truth, no lies, no leaving anything out. Got it? Good."
âTruth about what..?â
âYou know. About what you said the other day. You said you knew what it feels like to want to doâŚâ His voice faltered for a moment, ââŚyou know. And seeing as youâre so concerned over my desire to do That, you should have little objections when I ask: Why? And donât lie to me.â
âWhy⌠what?â Wheatley didnât look at Hal.
Hal sighed, looking directly at Wheatley. âThat day. With the knife. You said you knew what it felt like to want toâŚâ He made a cutting motion in front of his neck.
âOh. Just.. because Iâve been the reason for many people dying, and many lives being ruined. And losing people.â He shrugged, looking at the ground.
âThatâsâŚâ Hal looked away from him, starting to get uncomfortable. âYouâŚâ He didnât know what to say. Well, he did, but he didnât know what to say without revealing anything about himself. âSorry for asking. I was just a littleâŚâ
âInvasive?â Wheatleyâs arms were now crossed.
âNo. I mean, I might have been a little invasive. But that wasnât what I was going to say.â He still didnât look at Wheatley.
âItâs what Iâm saying. I donât go around asking you why YOU wanna cut your bloody neck open.â
Hal rubbed his neck self-consciously, looking at Wheatley out of the corner of his eye. âI just always assumed you didnât want to know.â
