Lord knows that the United States has and continues to commit atrocities. I can't justify that. And the current political situation here is scary as hell.
But I love this place. I love the Atlantic Ocean and New York City and the Pacific Northwest. I love my Blue Ridge Mountains with my whole entire heart. I love cardinals and mockingbirds and kudzu and possums and black rat snakes and the way the woods smell in the mornings.Â
I love that Americans are known for complimenting strangers. I love that we fry everything, and that we do it well. I love 12-foot-high plastic Halloween skeletons in peopleâs yards and tacky Christmas lights that stay up too long. I love that we are an unabashedly goofy people.
I love bluegrass music. I love stepping. I love that there are always folklorico dancers in my townâs Mardi Gras parade. I love that my town has a Mardi Gras parade, even though most people here arenât Catholic or French and didnât grow up with any kind of Carnivale tradition. I love that if "Livin On A Prayer" comes on a pizzeria, at least one person at each table won't be able to stop themselves from singing along. I love that the middle school gym shakes to the rafters when families cheer for THEIR baby finishing eighth grade and that they bring balloons and bouquets and flower garlands to celebrate.
I love the 80 year old couple at our local No Kings protest. I love all the little kids there with their families, too. I love the brass band that always shows up at protests here and plays old union songs and gospel music. I cry like a damn baby every time I hear âLift Evâry Voice and Sing.â
This country is horrible and selfish and destructive, but itâs also wonderful and kind and full of people loving and fighting and trying to make things better. And the people saying that thereâs only one kind of real American, and that if you donât look like they do or talk like they do or think like they do, then you donât count, those people can go pound sand. Iâm as real American as they come, and those people arenât the only ones who get to love our country.

When a black person states that something you did was racist, chill the fuck out. Its annoying dealing with you panicking trying to dissociate yourself from racism. If you're not black, black people already assume youve said nigga or its variant at least once in your life. If they're interacting with you and bringing something up, its because they want you to stop doing that so they can still interact with you(if ur already friends)
You WILL be racist. You WILL do racist things. You have ALREADY done both. Learn and move on. There's no ideological purity you can hold on to, i promise. Proving you can take the criticism without making it a big deal and practice what you preach is better than any clean slate.

I saw one of those "man uses weaponized incompetence to avoid basic tasks" sorta things with Spaghetti in a jug.
But what if they actually thought it would work? Character A comes home drunk and thinks they have the best idea. They put the spaghetti in then get distracted. The next morning, Chatacter B asks why the spaghetti is in a jug.
Character A get exited to show off their grand idea, and try to pour the spaghetti into a bowl like juice. It goes as well as you expect.
Cue character B laughing their ass of as Character A tries to salvage the situation.
Me and my buddies just rickrolled our entire church camp.
For the record, im agnostic, but I haven't told anyone, so i find myself at church camp. In a stroke if luck, one of my favorite cousins is there. And she has a brilliant idea: A kazoo choir for the talent show.
We practice our song diligently, untill we have mastered the kazoo. But on the second day, in the middle of the night, my cousin had an idea.
We played well, and the audience was dancing along. The cheery music, the electronic backing, and our excellent kazoos set a energetic cheery mood.
Then, suddenly stop. We give the audience just enough time to process our silence. Confused faces spread.
Then, a freind solos the beginning. Groans and oh nos rise from the audience, music to our ears. We play woth gusto as the whole camp looks upon us, completely done with our bs.
We finish, and get a standing ovation. We scamper off the stage giggling.
But this is not the end of our story. When the announcer took the stage, he asked the performers if we were happy with our performances. We were exceedingly pleased, and shouted out yes!
He tells us, "I liked the song untill you rickrolled me."
We tell him, "Too bad so sad."
Later, when my parents come to pick me up, the same councilor tells my mother of our mischief. Much to his dismay, my mother smiles and gives me a fistbump.
For I come from a noble family of jokers and clowns, and they would never punish harmless chaos.
I had won, and cackled, as the people told me they hated how much they enjoyed it.
Two little budgies were jailed July 1st for being silly. They have been reported to make adorable noises, cause mischief, and make silly decisions. They will be be tried on July eighth.

Eridian is NOT hermaphrodite. ERIDIAN IS ISOGAMOUS. THEY MAKE ONLY ONE TYPE OF REPRODUCTIVE CELL
Hermaphrodite mean one animal can make two different type of reproductive cell, usually egg and sperm. Like sea slug. Eridian making only one. They make egg. People hc that egg size can be varied but it still EGG. Their egg fused like slime mould fusion into macrocyst.
The docs is using the wrong word but it does explain how eridian make pebble so at least I can go hunt down the right term for y'all to use
sobbing my eyes out over how terrifying meeting grace must have been for rocky. obviously thereâs the horror of what grace âlooksâ like to him, but the fact that rocky feels responsible for killing everyone and now thereâs this fragile, squishy thing that rocky can kill with one wrong move. what if he messed up the oxygen in the tunnel? or it wasnât enclosed all the way? and then he was alone, again.
yeah you get it. that's what fucks rocky up so much aboutâeridians have a crystalline brain. rocky remembers every single thing that he perceives in perfect detail. he's one of the best engineers erid has ever seen, so it's logical that he double checks his work not just to screen for oversights, but to see if anything new can be added. typically this is done in a thrum, allowing for ideas to bounce off one another.
but rocky was alone at tau ceti for almost 50 years. there was no thrumânot for lack of trying to get his crewmates to respondâso rocky does it himself.
so rocky gets stuck in loops. his brain rereads the same information over and over again, expecting to be passed onto another one of his species. when it isn't, there's no sense of completion and the loop starts back over. not having another eridian translates to stress on an instinctual level so his brain thinks there's an error in the loop or in his work. he completes a ritual or task to satisfy the anxiety. the cycle repeats itself regardless because eridians are not meant to be alone.
he has to check on grace's breathing. he needs to check the taumoeba. he needs to make sure he isn't dying of radiation sickness. he needs to force feed his friend as he wastes away. there's so much rocky can't fix and so much that he could have if his crew was still alive (if he didn't kill them). it starts to become more irrationalâtapping in sets of five on the xenonite barrier to make sure it's stable. saying words over and over that don't really make sense with eridiani sentence structure. if he doesn't click and shake his carapace, his brain will make him relive the fat of grace's arm liquefying and coagulating in his hold.
inside his body, his worker cells are exhausted from constantly going to repair a sickness that doesn't exist. his cells are the sickness, driving themselves to ruin in a never-ending death spiral.
he's so, so tired, but he can't go to sleep because he has to check.

I don't generally wings of fire post on my blog, but I do enjoy the series. I was doing studies on non-european clothing, and decided to make a bit of fanart about it. Glory and Deathbringer, romantic or platonic, are my favorites, so they got to be my models.
Extreme yapping under cut.
Lets start with Deathbringer. His hair is in dreadlocks mostly because I think it's cute. I had her main colors be purple, black, and red. He's got little star and moon earrings, and lots of silver trim. A little purple bag holds all her weapons.
This next design bit relys on a headcannon: the nightwings were a nomadic society for a long time, and even in Darkstalker's era there were still nomads. The rest of the clothing is based on mongolian and manchu clothing. He wears a Qipao, a Manchu women's dress. I headcannon him as genderfluid so I tried to blend elements. The little beads in his belt are loosely inspired by mongolian hair beading. Her shoes are Manchu shoes i found on an antiques website.
The overcoat i found credited as a drawing of a mongol coat, but I could find no other sources backing this up, and mongol coats looked nothing like what was in the source. I could find no sign it was AI, so I checked out the account, which was a scraper. The art was likely stolen and then misattributed. I still loved the half design, so I used it as a dramatic overcoat.
Now to our Queen, Glory! Her crown is meant to look like a sun. I felt bad labeling it as a kayapò due to how much I changed, but it is based on that. Kayapós are a headresses that are worn as a ceremonial peice by the indigenous people along the Xingu. It also represents growing up, so it fits quite nice.
Their shirt is actually a Sabai, a Thai peice of clothing. I imagine Glory would probably uses a lot of pins to keep it in place with all the acrobatics they do. The belt also has a little sun on it.
Their pants are called sari pants, but that is a coincidence as I designed them to have a similar shape to a sinh.
You can't see it due to the crown, but she actually has a buzz cut. This is due to one cool fanart I saw of her. In many African cultures, a shaved head is seen as more beautiful and more feminine.
Glory's gloves are mostly because I feel like they'd like them. I tried not to copy any tribal/religious paints or tattoos for the patterns.
I grew up in a majority black community, and naturally I started speaking AAVE. Before, I had spoken mostly like my parents, but I naturally reflected the language around me.
Later, I moved to a middle class white community and suddenly I couldn't speak AAVE. It was "improper" now. So I defaulted on the grammar I saw in the books I read.
And now people are giving me flak for talking like a science paper or a novel.
