“wHA-”

     He allows himself to cry for a little longer– he has plenty to get off his chest. How much he missed his mom, his friends, All Might, his school, his crushed dreams… Even if he left the League, he wasn’t sure if he could bring himself to return to U.A… Did he have any right to, after what he’d done? 

     Izuku managed to reign himself in when it’s his time to respond, though. It feels like two sides of him are at war, the one that wanted to listen to her and run away from all the pain and suffering he’d endured, and the other that still felt unsure that it was the right thing to do. It was a big risk, but maybe… Maybe…

     “I don’t know…” He mumbles at first, lifting his head to look up at the sky. “I don’t know if there’s anyone still strong enough to defeat All For One, and I don’t know how many people he has under his thumb… How many people he might send after my family. But…” He purses his lips in thought. It almost felt blasphemous to even think it, going against everything that had been so firmly drilled into his head during all those months – but with One for All, there was some hope left. Maybe, just maybe…

     “If I get stronger, maybe together we’d stand a chance… We should be smart about it, right? Once I learn how to use my quirk properly at the very least. Me, you, and whatever All Might still has left in him, if anything…” 

     Her smile was practically beaming with joy. That’s her boy! Struggling against the odds, facing even the most uncertain future with hope and optimism. The woman has no memories of Izuku’s life before he was given One for All, but she can recall feelings. Izuku’s life was hard as a kid, but he never gave up. He hasn’t given up still.

     “Absolutely.” She smiled, raising a hand to wipe away her own tears. “Remember, Izuku, you are not alone.” She takes his hand once more, her grasp gentle, but firm. “You have your classmates, your friends, your teachers, and also...” There’s a moment of pause. One hand moves over her chest, feeling the beating heart under her skin.

Niji can’t hide his amusement at the boy’s rambling. He’s just like Yoichi. It’s easy to see why his husband is so protective over him.

The man snorts as Izuku goes quiet, lips forming a smirk not too long after. “Makes sense, makes sense. When wanting to understand a quirk better, it’s best to ask the user for help, hm? Do you want me to ask Hifumi if they want to help too? Or are you able to manage with Fa Jin?”

He knows he can’t talk the kid out of this whole hero stuff, but the least he can do is make sure he knows everything he needs to know to survive. Niji highly doubts his vestige is being helpful.

“And don’t worry about your rambling. Yoichi does it too. I’m used to it.”

The young hero looks up at the smirk. And while it only deepens his embarrassment, it’s a sign that Niji is warming up at least. The offer of Hifumi’s guidance is an exciting one, but one he’ll take up at a later date.

“No, Fa Jin isn’t too much of a problem. At least for now. But some other time would be great.” He can’t help but beam at the idea. “It’s mainly your power I’ve been nervous to use, since it’s been in One for All the longest.”

“You train after school? Hm, you’re more responsible than you seem.” Neither meant to be something rude or a compliment. Just a simple observation made by the man. Silently, though, he can respect the effort the boy puts into improving and getting stronger. It’s the fact that he’s too young to be involved in this kind of stuff that bothers him.

A child shouldn’t be in such deadly situations.

“I’ll see if I can get permission from the school to enter and help you with some of your training after classes, then. Do you have anything in particular you want to get better at?”

Oh wow. He didn’t expect to get this far. Nodding, he managed to contain his own excitement. “Well, general advice would be helpful. Anything from your experience would be great...” His fingers played with each other. “But...I’d like to ask about your quirk, too. I haven’t had a lot of time to use it, and considering how long it’s been apart of the quirk, I want to understand it as best I can before using it.”

“Hm? You don’t have to call me ‘Mr’. Formal stuff is boring as shit. Just calling me by my name is fine.” Though, Niji might understand a little bit where it’s coming from and wont be surprised if the kid will continue calling him that for a while anyway. He knows he’s scary and, honestly, he hasn’t been the nicest. Doesn’t intend to change that yet, though.

Finally, he raises an eyebrow as he looks up from his phone after having finished writing a text to Yoichi. This isn’t exactly a request he expected to get– but he supposes it makes sense. Niji has the same quirk as back then, so training with him will be useful.

“You want me to help you with training, huh?” His facial expression turns stoic, almost seeming grumpy. Nothing new for the man. “Mmhm… When do you have time?”

Hm. Seems like Niji is like Kacchan in more ways than just looks. Though, instead of explosive anger and foul language, it was more of a quiet disapproval of the world. Izuku himself had every reason to be nervous. Within One for All, the Second wasn’t the most supportive of Izuku’s views on heroics.

“Exactly!” Kirishima beamed, slowly–– and carefully–– letting go but keeping his hands out and ready to catch Izuku if he fell again. “You can distribute your weight evenly if you want when both feet are on the board, but it’s better to balance your weight more on your front foot and use the other to push and to help steer, it just gives you a little bit more control and lowers your risk of falling off backwards, you know?”

“Got it.” He smiled, excited now that he has the basic principle down. He kept his balance even as Kirishima moved away. He felt like he was learning just by standing on the thing. “Front foot...” He muttered, looking down. Slowly, his back foot lifted, then was placed down on the ground. No shaking.
