Basically, before even Dreamscapers, Mabel and dipper find the portal and Mabel accidentally gets sucked in. she gets traumatized in the nightmare realm until bill finds her and manipulates her by saying “oh yeah I’m your friend” and he offers to make a deal with her in which that he will protect her if she stays with him and helps him, she agrees. Bill also tells her that ford is a shape shifting monster like she saw in the nightmare realm pretending to be her grunkle stan, so she doesn’t even know ford is ford. She is trying to find a way home while still helping bill. Basically bill adopts her:3.
