This post might be a little biased because of my own experiences, but I think I should say this at least once
I don’t really like how much Sidisquish gets gendered in the fandom
I know their gender still unknown (like everyone else), but it makes me kinda iffy that the only Psychonetwork member who canonically uses neutral pronouns (they/them) is also the one who gets gendered the most in fanon, especially when almost every other member from the psychonetwork already uses he/him canonically (except Ego, whose pronouns aren't mentioned).
And honestly, I dont mind gender hcs at all, to be honest they are very fun, and there should be more, I love making them too (transfem soup and conzer + enby fear ball asf), I love transfem, transmasc, enby, etc, hcs in fanon spaces or even in CANON spaces (when possible), especially in a series where most characters are already canonically masculine, he/him s or have unknown genders. (Also everyone knows how the series lack girl/fem characters, theres only 2, and 1 of them isnt even original of the series + is probably dead forever)
But I guess what bothers me is: why is the one of the only 2 character who canonically uses they/them, so often turned into something else instead? (Tbh this situation goes for both, but ive realized that someway AwesomeG gets a better treatment)
I would understand more if it was something like:
“in this AU they were still figuring out their identity” <-because thats a real experience many people have (i also had this)
Or if someone is a Sidisquish fictive, because then the important thing is how the person personally identifies
But outside of situations like that, it just feels a little off to me... sometimes
I still enjoy a lot of interpretations where they remain somewhere on the enby spectrum or still use they/them pronouns, But Ive also seen many people intentionally refer to them with only he/him or she/her, even while knowing their canon pronouns are they/them
And yes, I know some people genuinely don’t know their canon pronouns still (like me, i didn’t know too in the start, when i met them i hc them as using any pronouns, but once I found out they canonically used they/them, I got actually really like really happy and started only using they/them on them too), but some poeple do know
Maybe in the future I gonna completely take everything back and change myself over this, since is too soon to say anything, things always can change
But for now, it does make me a little uncomfortable
Especially because in most fandoms Im in, when a character canonically uses pronouns outside the binary (he/him or she/her), even if its only mentioned 1 time during the series, most people try to respect that, even if the character s gender still not known. (But I also cant deny that many fandoms i also in, still tend to push actually CANONICALLY ENBY characters back into binary genders and norms for some reason, even if they canonically uses they/them or xenos, and their gender identity is somewhat important to their story, and this bother me soooo much)
im not trying to change the fandom or control how people interpret characters
Principally bcs how i said before, This is mostly just something personal (maybe even kinda ventish in a way?) about something thats been bothering me for a while. And i really liked to rent about it somewhere.
Ig, I just wanted to know if anyone else feels like this too.
