I want to share about this painting with you. What a challenge it was. I started this project this past winter, a novice in resin fumbling to figure out this ocean wave technique. Resin is a tricky bugger, and a goldilocks of a medium for sure. Your workspace can’t be too hot, nor too cold. Humidity levels must be optimal. Even the molecular weight of additive mediums that tint or alter the resin deserve complete consideration at the very least. Your technique absolutely must be on point and fully practiced because you’ve only got about 45 minutes of working time before it starts to cure. It’s important to remember that we’re working with chemicals here, and safety precautions must be taken seriously. Every small, tedious step in the process of working with resin has a maximum level of impact on the final result of your piece. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ I’m sitting at my kitchen table right now, eating yesterday’s dinner with coffee for breakfast and reflecting on how far I’ve come within the realm my new craft. The gratitude that I feel for having the current creative opportunities that I do is a feeling that I hold very close to my heart. There is something so gratifying about working with your hands; creating something intentional and beautiful from the separate materials around you. There is also something to be said about being self taught. With every commission, comes an unbelievable amount of internal and external pressure and expectation. In this particular instance, I was learning a technique and medium that were completely new to me (talk about stress!). Put simply and precisely- the completely oblivious and overly confident me who decided to take on this project those many months ago would be very proud of me and my performance right now. And so I am. ~Thank god~ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ In summary- I am a simple woman. I am grateful. I work hard, I fail, I suffer, I learn, I try harder, I succeed. I create. This statement piece accomplishes that beautifully. This one was exceptionally difficult because it included a lot of new techniques that I’d never used before. I also didn’t use any reference photos, so everything about this piece was 100% derived from my own imagination and inspiration. These colors were hand mixed to get the exact hues I wanted.
