Jade Shadows Constellations looks awesome, i'm super excited for it. Main notes for me are obviously new story quest but mainly the Nidus changes, you'll finally be able to play him in multiplayer huzzah especially with being able to Link to your companion. I'll be interested to see if just the health carries over, which would be perfectly fine, or if they'll get the Ability Strength or some equivalent and how that'll effect them. Cause like my Pharaoh Predasite, Beans, is already an absolute demon who does more damage than i do most of the time to the point of making it hard to get some conditional stuff done and level weapons (the mastery changes will be very nice too for that reason).
I've seen some people complaining about how not getting to use their own Railjack pisses them off but i don't really understand that, it works for the story and you'll still need it for Adversaries, base Caliban, a bunch of different weapons, the upcoming Steel Path Railjack, etc, and the reverse is then locking people that didn't want to invest in their Railjack or haven't yet out of the content and that's less cool. It's also just part of the streamlining changes they've been making for ages like not forcing you to get a Necramech for New War.
I think Sirius/Orion might be toeing the line of Maybe Too Much even for Warframe. Lots of abilities with a lot going on and i don't really know how their 4 is supposed to work anywhere other than open worlds and certain Defense targets, presumably you'll just clip through the walls and play the minigame anyway but i can't imagine the camera will be happy about it. I, however, will be very happy to use Sirius because i love Support/Healer characters and Light's Sanctuary is insanely busted. I also love both of their lil Dark Souls Homing Soulmass ass abilities.
Though, and there are some harsh words here, i do have one kinda beef with Sirius/Orion. I'm normally the type to think people who say "X frame is just a better Y frame why even use Y frame Y frame needs a rework" are fuckin stupid. There are so many ways to build every frame in unique or interesting ways that i take it as a self-report that you get your opinion from youtubers and don't know shit. HOWEVER, in this particular instance, it's hard not to agree. Sirion IS just a better Equinox who will be significantly less annoying to get. They use the same elements, several of their abilities have crossover, this is honestly what Equinox should have been reworked into (though honestly Equinox is still pretty good, they just need better scaling and to not lose stacks and maintain channeling on swapping forms).
As far as mild gripes go, i still don't like Ryoku's design even after they added more details to him. Ash, and especially Ash Prime, is still a really cool looking frame and i don't really think Ryoku invokes him at all. I think even with his weird cloak hood thing on he just needs a little bit more, a little jacket or bulk up his arms like Ash's or SOMETHING. I also don't really like the look of Sirion's head wings, either scythe, or either swaddle syndana but that's easy enough to deal with. They also seem to be regular scythes and not heavy scythes and heavy scythes desperately need a new stance.
Signa's look good though, Incarnons do too and i'm excited for them. The two Arcanes they showed off are kinda eh, Sculptor's efficiency is kinda moot when our energy economy is so strong anyway and i can only thing of a couple weapons i'd put Compression on but they're both cool anyway. The two new Augments are buck-fuckin-wild though, Dante having even more Slash birds and energy regen is crazy and Temple having easy Overguard is overkill. VERY excited Koumei is getting more love but give her more skins too. New Atragraph's are cool and i'm glad they're doing more but until they reduce the grind in them i'm not bothering.
Anyway, big hype for the 17th, gonna be a good patch.
i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Pirate shit. Don't feel bad for it. It's not "your fault" that artists, independent or otherwise, can't make a living. You downloading an album or ebook for free isn't the cause of the problem. The cause is capitalism, plain and simple, and pirating is a lucky loophole that companies are still trying to stomp out.
is there any way to keep tumblr from showing me communities period?

have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!
Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk sits in her office, eyes fixed on the computer monitor in front of her. "You see it move its eye," says the UC Ir
I <3 you a normal amount Greenland sharks
She got the idea for the study while walking with her advisor at Stanford to discuss her thesis topic, and the paper she eventually published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology in 2014 is sharp enough that it should have ended the seated meeting on the day it came out.
She ran 4 experiments on 176 people. Same person tested twice. Once sitting, once walking. The creativity tasks were the standard ones psychologists have used for decades to measure how good a brain is at generating novel useful ideas.
81% of participants in the first experiment produced more creative ideas while walking than while sitting. In the second experiment, 88%. In the third, 100%. Every single person walked into a more creative version of themselves. On average, people generated 60% more novel useful ideas the moment their legs started moving.
The skeptical question is the obvious one. Maybe it was the fresh air. Maybe it was the scenery passing by. Maybe it was the change of environment doing the work, not the walking itself.
Oppezzo killed every one of those explanations with one experimental decision. She put people on a treadmill facing a blank wall. No scenery. No fresh air. No environmental change. Just legs moving in place while staring at white drywall. The 60% boost held.
Then she ran the experiment that closed the case completely. She took participants outside in two conditions. Half of them walked through a Stanford courtyard. The other half were pushed through the exact same courtyard in a wheelchair. Same outdoor stimulation. Same scenery passing at the same speed. The only difference was whether the legs were moving.
The walkers produced dramatically more novel high-quality ideas than the wheelchair group. The outdoors did almost nothing on its own. The walking did everything.
She also tested the opposite kind of thinking. Convergent thinking. The kind where there is one right answer and you have to narrow down to it. Word puzzles where 3 words share a hidden fourth word that connects them. The seated participants did slightly better on these. Walkers got slightly worse.
Walking is not a general intelligence enhancer. It does one specific thing. It opens up the divergent search inside your brain. The part that generates options. The part that produces unexpected connections. The part that takes a problem and finds five ways into it instead of one.
When you need to converge on the single right answer, sit down. When you need to find the answer in the first place, get up.
The mechanism is now well understood. Walking selectively activates what neuroscientists call the default mode network, the system inside your brain that runs when you are not consciously focused on anything. The DMN is where mind-wandering happens. Where memories cross-reference each other. Where ideas that have been sitting in separate folders inside your head finally bump into each other.
When you sit at a desk and force yourself to concentrate, you suppress the DMN. When you walk at a natural pace, the executive part of your brain gets just busy enough handling the walking that the DMN comes online and starts doing the work that focus was blocking.
The most useful finding in the entire paper is the one almost nobody quotes. The boost did not turn off the moment people stopped walking. Participants who walked first and then sat back down stayed elevated. Their next round of seated creativity work was still significantly better than people who had been sitting the whole time. The rest lingered for at least several minutes after the legs stopped moving.
You do not need to do creative work while walking. You need to walk before the creative work. The brain holds the state.
Edited down a long tweet. (x)
Real.

Something i find genuinely funny about those conservative "comedy" cartoons is the strawman caricature they love to conjure up about the left never seems to be unhappy? Out of all the ones i've seen they seem to be fairly successful, have a good quality of life, etc. Like you'd think they'd go to the extra mile to be like "look at this dastardly lefty struggling, they can't survive in this society" yadda yadda but no, they seem pretty fulfilled.
I guess it's not that surprising at the same time, most if not all of the conservative talking heads funding these things are well off and have never had to struggle like that so it wouldn't be a shock to find out they're so out of touch that they can't picture even their imaginary worst enemy as anything less than comfortable middle class let alone actual poverty, they have no real frame of reference for it.

my live reaction to this moment
“bits to use in everyday conversations”
My favorite is when someone say “ya know?” And I respond with “unfortunately”. Gets me every time.
Dropping/breaking something in front of a bunch of people and saying "it wasn't me"
Missing a shot and saying "bullseye"

One of the contractors at work is a dude who recently moved here from the Bay Area. He is used to Northern California, which is to say that he is NOT used to the general Tornado Alley attitude towards Thor dragging his dick across the plains and causing massive destruction on a semi-regular basis.
Namely, the fact that we get them at all, and the fact that the general Midwestern response is to wander outside to see if we can see it.
We have bad weather forcasted the next few days and I had to talk him through the site tornado plan and storm shelter locations (we have six on site, my office is actually inside one) to head off the poor guy's anxiety and also I had to admit that yes, I also share the general Tornado Alley brain damage and go outside to try and see it when the sirens go off.
Poor man thinks everyone in tornado Alley is out of their minds and as one of those people I can't even deny it. 'I seek shelter if it's heading this way' did not reassure him, he's convinced we are mad.
