While the Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris) looks like it belongs in a water color, you can actually see this bird flying about in real life! It lives in scrub-forest or grassland habitats in parts of the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America. Males sport red, blue, and green colors, while females can be identified by their mostly green plumage. These songbirds have strong, stubby beaks—perfect for foraging for seeds! City Night, Georgia O'Keeffe, 1926, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Paintings
Landscape. Urban. Architecture. Georgia O‘Keeffe produced more than twenty scenes of New York City between 1925 and 1930. Here, the power and presence of the modern era are epitomized in the city’s thrusting architecture. During the first half of the 1900s, skyscrapers came to exemplify U.S. ingenuity. O’Keeffe reduced these immense buildings to simple geometric forms that converge in the upper reaches of the dark canvas, towering even above the moon. She places the viewer between these architectural giants. We might feel small in their midst, forced to crane our necks skyward to take it all in, or we might marvel at the staggering feats of engineering that soar above our heads. The brightly glowing moon offers a round contrast to the super-straight lines of the city. Size: 48 x 30 in. (121.92 x 76.2 cm) (canvas) 47 ¾ x 29 ¾ in. (121.29 x 75.57 cm) (sight) 53 x 35 ½ x 3 5/8 in. (134.62 x 90.17 x 9.21 cm) (outer frame) Medium: Oil on canvas

Every year I watch The Office from beginning to end, all seven or eight or however many seasons it is. It just makes me happy.
I've already did this year's Office months ago. I think I'm going to do it again. It's been that kind of year.

For the truth is that, despite the horrors of a New York summer, there’s still nothing to match the thrill of this extraordinary city in heat; people sitting out on Brooklyn’s brownstone stoops and hanging out of SoHo doorways, drinking and flirting and picnicking in Central Park, basking in the mutual madness that has driven them to live in this sweltering bedlam. For with the madness comes a sense of total possibility: of love and adventure; of sultry evenings spent sitting on rooftops feeling intoxicated before you’ve even had your first drink. New York is to the modern world what Rome was to the ancient; and much like Rome, when the heat forces the rich to retreat to their villas, those who remain are left to stew wildly in the muck and the glory. It all brings to mind another Fitzgerald line, from an essay called My Lost City. “New York had all the iridescence of the beginning of the world,” he mused. I bet it was summer when he wrote it.
