Sybill's brows furrowed. "I... Suppose." She said slowly, not offended by the comparrison just completely surprised by it. That was a new one.
In coming back to London, Sybill had needed to accept that she was coming back to something serious. The visions had never let up, as much as she'd been hoping the travel might make them fade, and she knew she was returning because she needed to try and help. Still she didn't feel prepared for war, so far be it for anyone else not to feel blindsided by this madness. "I'm sorry." She said, softer, "I don't mean to be harsh, I just- 'hah, well I'm hardly the only one this place has on edge. There has to be... Something, you know? A weak point to exploit, a clue left behind...."
"Well, British Spider-woman." He corrected belatedly. Hamish reckoned this woman, Sybill, could probably solve just as many capers as Spiderman. Though Spiderman mostly fought crime. Sybill could probably fight crime.
He shook his head, still not feeling 100% himself about the whole thing. It was all so big and he was just so small. "No, no it's nothing you've done. This keeps happening to me, is well. Well, not the 'wake up in a spooky mansion' thing. That's still just happened right now. The other thing. Where it keeps all getting out of hand. But you're right! Maybe there are clues. Let's look for clues, like detectives."
"Oh, no. I just meant... More generally. About lots of people, different things. I get senses." Sybill waved her hand in a vague, mystical motion, "usually anyway. This place is hardly willing to reveal secrets." She lebelled him with a stare that wasn't unkind, but waiting for him to realize. "Just because dressing up is fun, I don't think this is really intended to be a pleasant experience. Too much cloak and dagger for that."
"Ah," Hamish said with a nod that he didn't actually feel represented his level of understanding. "Like Spiderman. Like British Spiderman."
He looked away, unable to say anything serious with that gaze on him. He didn't like taking things too seriously. That was Percy's job. He was supposed to be dumb, and fun, and silly, and remind his sister to laugh once in a while. Not all this... this everything else that kept creeping into his life. "No. No, you're right. It's not a fun experience. Too many cloaks and too many literal daggers. It's all very... very real."
"Yeah, I usually have a sense for certain things too... I don't think this place intends to be helpful in that regard, though." At least, any of the normal things Sybill felt pulling at her conscousness were dulled, distracted by this strange setting. She quirked a brow, humming, "do you not think that debacle with the May Queen might be more the sort of statements people pay attention to these days?"
"Are you also a twin, then?" Hamish asked. He didn't quite get Twin Energy off her the way he did with the two Flint siblings, but you never knew. People could always find a way to surprise you. He mouthed the phrase 'May Queen' before remembering that's what the last picnic had been for. The where that woman had gotten branded. "I, well---" He faltered, thinking about these things too long made him feel jumpy and nervous and all together too different. "Probably, but they're a lot less fun aren't they? And their font choices are horrible."
Sybill nods, "fantastc. Though I imagine finding who you're looking for won't be so easy here." She frowned, thinking of earlier celebrations, "it would be a rahter dramatic setting, if someone had a statement to make."
"It probably won't be too hard, I bet if I start doing something really stupid she'll show up to make fun of me for it." He said cheerfully. Percy had a knack for knowing when he was up to dumb shit. Probably twin senses. "Usually when people make a statement they just release it to the press." Hamish joked. "But I suppose this counts as one too."

"Nor me." Sybill admitted with an easy shrug. It wasn't new to her; getting lost. Solo travel, she had a habit of wandering off from tourguides. Or not bothering with the proper tour at all. "Hmm. Dressed up, I suppose I mean. Clearly someone is in the mood for a spooky celebration."
"I bet Percy knows exactly where she is, she's always been the practical one." Hamish said as he nodded. Sometimes that had the added bonus of making his sister appear from nowhere to call him a dope, but it didn't seem to happen this time. Darn! "Do you think there's really going to be a masquerade dance? I've never been to one before, it could be fun."
Where: like a haunted mansion I guess Who: Open
"An interesting labryinth, isn't it?" Sybill hummed, hearing the soft swsh of the door open and close, not sure if it was a ghost or a person, but wanting to talk anyway. "One wonders when the real trouble will begin this time... At least everyone looks nice."
"I have no idea where I am." Hamish admitted happily. His sense of direction was fair enough, he followed owls plenty of places. But he'd never been here and nothing seemed to make sense about the layout. "Some of the masks are quite scary, I don't know if I can count that as looking nice."

hellohamishâ
âOh, many ideas Iâve had have been called stupid, you can call my ideas stupid any time.â Hamish told her sincerely. âMaybe Perce is right and we should move to Korea. Though Iâm not sure I could convince Kat to leave all her family.â
â
âit isnât very nice though. I donât really like being, like, mean. you know?â which was true. poppy was a girl with a gentle heart. her brow furrowed together. âI donât know who any of those people are. what are you talking about?â
"It's not mean, I promise. At least not when you do it to me, it'll slide right off my back. Like water off a duck!" He said, nodding to confirm his own point. "Perce is my sister. Her nickname is Percy, and I'm sworn to secrecy on what her full name is. Kat's my girlfriend. She's so cool. Like, cooler than even me."

âWhich is perfectly fine when youâre in a social space, or alone, but Iâm a professor in a classroom, with students who need to listen to me.â Bathsheda sighed heavily, shaking her head. âWhat grades do you use?â She asked, curiously. âT stands for Troll and itâs the worst of the fail grades. Luckily there werenât many, but I still had several D's⌠that stands for Dreadful, by the way.â
--
âOh, I always had problems paying attention in class. My sister usually had to kick me, when our schedules overlapped.â Hamish blinked in surprise. âTroll? That seems awfully harsh. Our lowest grade is an F, but it doesnât stand for anything. Except maybe Fail? We had Dâs too, but they definitely didnât stand for Dreadful.â

ânow I donât really like to, like, call anything stupid, but I really canât think of a better word.â poppy almost winced. âI think that, like, no one is stopping until someone wins and everyone else loses.â

She sits outside in the sunshine, though she can barely see the sun as her thick, dark hair slips over her face, which is bent over the pieces of parchment in front of her. Sighing softly, she marks the top of the parchment with a T and places it face down on the âmarkedâ pile. She knows sheâs left it late, but summer was always hard with Bellona gone. âI must have been talking to myself all year, because this is abysmal.â
--
âI talk to myself all the time.â Hamish said happily, glancing down at the papers. âWhatâs the âTâ mean? I knew grades were different in the States but I didnât think theyâre that different.â

Twins against the world⌠until Hamish chose someone else over him. She hated the thought and the train tracks it started sending her thoughts in, but the music she was playing suddenly picked up to match the heightened anxiety that was swirling through her. âI donât care for Bruce.â She admitted it with a little smirk, eyes darting up to look at her brother before dropping again. âAnd I think we should also consider⌠us against the world as individuals, too. It wonât always be the two of us, you know.â
--
âWoah, whatâs with the notes?â He asked, looking at her cello. Perce hadnât played like that in ages. Or at least not around him. Was she tense or something? It was gonna make him tense. âNext youâre gonna say you donât like,â he cast around in his head for a good musician from back home, âDonna Summers.â
Then his thoughts skidded to a halt and he reached out to cover the strings on her cello, pausing the music. âWhat do you mean as individuals? Of course it will always be the two of us.â
--
poppypottedâ:
poppy nodded solemnly. she was sporting her favorite denim jacket today that was littered with pins on every cause you could imagine, especially anti-war sentiments. âare you serious? where have you been? itâs, like, really bad.â
--
It felt very silly to say it out loud to someone who wasnât Percy, but Hamish went ahead and opened his mouth, âI had... just sort of hoped... Everyone had just, decided that one big fight was enough, yâknow? That it was all finished after that.â
--

âWhy should I cozy up to someone when thereâs no guarantee of a future?â It was a cruel thing to say, especially to her own brother, but it was getting harder to contain that feeling, the feeling that Hamish was growing up and away, that she was sitting in a limbo of her own making while he thrived and experienced something so pure and wonderful. She hated it. She wanted to be angry with him, but instead found her ire directed at the girl.Â
Her eyes darted up again and the slightest shake of her head was the only indication she gave at all to his question for a moment as she let her fingers dance with the music. âPicking sides immediately makes us targets. As soon as weâre targets, things get worse. The only people we should be standing behind in all of this is ourselves.â
--
"Donât be like that Perce.â He said softly. Hamish hated seeing her in full porcupine mode. Sure heâd rather she fill him full of pins than someone less equipped to handle it, but he didnât enjoy it. âShe makes me happy. You make me happy. Itâd be nice if two of my favorite people were friends. Thatâs all.â
Hamish relaxed just slightly. âTwins against the world it is.â This was more familiar territory at least. He knew how to handle this. If she wasnât busy playing heâd offer her a fist bump. âWe can be like a Bruce Springsteen song! Canât believe heâs not caught on over here.â

âWeâre not taking your fair weather girlfriend to Grandadâs house.â Her voice was sharp and possibly a little cold, but Percy wasnât going to admit that it was jealousy lacing her tone, not something harsher. She had never kept it a huge secret that she didnât like Hamishâs fling, but she had also thought that it would have burned itself out by now. âIâm not translating for her and your accent sucks.â
She hit a sour note, and, frustrated, Percy shuffled the music in front of her and started over from the beginning. âPeople donât just move on from being assholes, Rocky. Or did you not learn that lesson in school? Until one side or the other⌠or the third, I guess in this case, win, everyone loses.â
--
âHey!â Hamish protested, both on behalf of Kat and his Korean accent (which was, admittedly, horrid). Maybe he didnât always play at the whole âabsent-minded idiotâ act, but he knew his sister. Perce wasnât normally this prickly. âSheâs really not that bad, Perce. Not like some of the other ones, really. You two would get along if you gave her a chance.â
He winced more at the frustration than the note and put down the bear to fidget with his sleeves. âSometimes they do. Sometimes they... grow as people.â It sounded naive even to his own ears. âDo you think we should pick sides?â
--
xkilljxyâ:
âWeâre trust fund kids, Rocky, we donât have to get involved. We can just move to Busan and live with Grandad for a while if youâre that worried about it.â Percyâs eyes only lifted for a moment from the sheet music in front of her before dropping again, letting out a slow, steady breath. âBesides, its all a bit gummy for us, innit it? I mean, weâre muggleborn. The empire weâre set to inherit is not magical. We shouldnât be sticking our noses in things that get them hacked off at the tip.â
--
âOnly if we can take Kat with us.â God, their mom would probably love that. Heâd seen the Burkeâs house, there was no way they didnât come from money. âI donât think she speaks Korean though.âÂ
Hamish knew better than to mess with her sheet music but the urge to fidget with something bigger than the origami was growing stronger. âIâm not sticking my nose in anything for once, honest. I just... kind of had hoped theyâd all just... moved on?â
