how to be a functional witch:
- remember magic and science can coexist , don’t blow off a doctor’s appointment for a healing spell.
- don’t act higher and mightier than non-witch freinds
- don’t like drink water that’s been sitting there a while (sun water, moon water, rainwater, etc) without boiling it first to rid diseases. don’t drink lake, pond, or sea water at all.
- respect others in their chosen paths. yes, even that one.
- please be kind to the environment. when leaving offerings, try not to leave things that will take a long time to degrade. don’t use plastic bags, jars, glitter, etc.. she’ll be hurt.
- factcheck. factcheck. factcheck! I’ve heard stories about lotions and tea made with highly acidic or heck even poisonous tea.
- you come first. if you don’t have the energy to do ritual, don’t do it! don’t neglect necessary things in favour of witchin’. drink water, get sun, eat fruit, sleep, shower.
- try to practice little magic wherever you can. say soft incantations on the way to school, meditate on the bus, add herbs or to your tea to make spells or rituals in a cup, draw sigils on the backs of your hands.
- PLS…..don’t burn things while you sleep….candles, incense….don’t do it.

Celestial Witch Aesthetic
10 things any new witch should know
Metaphysical shops/ new age shops are way over priced. Convenient, but expensive. Check out Etsy, farmers markets, thrift stores and grocery stores first.
Garden sage works just as well as white sage.
Spells can take a day, a week or even months to show. Be patient and don’t feel like you have to do the same spell again go get results.
Always, always protect yourself while doing any spell. Draw sigils on yourself or have a talisman of sorts on your person. Always.
If you’re using a spell book for your rituals, switch them up and make them personalized to your craft.
White or black candles can take the place of any colour candle. And rosemary can substitute for many herbs.
You can have certain books ( Wicca, pagan, occult, etc.) send to your local library for free.
You can cleanse your tools or crystals by moonlight and charge them by sunlight.
Always listen to your intuition.
Many “common weeds” can be used for magical purposes ( mugwort, yarrow, dandelion, etc.)

Self Care for the Witch
when one’s health is compromised, it’s not unusual to want to turn towards magic to aid healing. but not matter how much lavender and rose quartz is in your pockets, or the endless amounts of chamomile incense you burn, it’s important to note that magic cannot be used to fix everything when you’re feeling poorly, physically, mentally, emotionally, etc. sometimes the best you can do for yourself is exercise a little old fashioned self care.
note: i’m not a doctor, this is general compiled advice. rely first on what your doctors/etc tell you, not some rando on the internet.
💧 HYDRATE- there is no potion like water. you don’t need to force yourself to get the ideal 8 large glasses of water a day, but drinking some when you’re feeling poorly is important, esp if you’re sick.
🍎 EAT- everyone eats. everyone needs food. something healthy is best, but truly whatever is easiest on your stomach and available to you is just fine. so find something to eat, if only for the spell ingredients you can use after (orange peels, apple rinds/seeds)
💊 MEDS - can’t work their magic if you don’t take them! if a doctor has prescribed you meds, it is important that you take them at the prescribed interval. especially if they are anti-depressants, keeping a consistent level of meds in your body is important. too much or too little can affect your mood/recovery!
👻 RIP - take a moment to sort the thoughts that haunt you, put them to ease. worrying over and lingering on unpleasant things doesn’t help, but talking them through with someone to form a plan or rationalize those feelings can help ease them.
💤 SLEEP - charge in the moonlight like your crystals. your crystals get to recharge, so should you! all-nighters are over-glorified of late, but going too long without sleep is hard on your body, and your mind.
🛁 SHOWER - wash yesterday’s dirt away, make room for tomorrow’s dirt! a shower can help with your mindset, it can help with a cold, soothe sore muscles, or just leave you feeling better overall.
💨 CLEAN - a clean space can help keep the cobwebs from your mind. clutter and a dirty environment affects you mentally in ways you don’t realize. if you have the energy, just taking out the trash can improve your mindset. cleansing spirits and bad energies is good for your craft, but cleaning up is still important.
💬 REACH OUT - a familiar’s touch will soothe, but so will getting in contact with friends. while contacting spirits is a great exercise, it is not a replacement for your friends.
if nothing seems to help, reach out to a doctor, therapist, etc. professional help should never be replaced by magic. self care is not a substitute for large pains or dire problems either!

Some things to do to celebrate:
🌼 Plant something new
🌸 Care for your existing plants (like trimming and adding fertilizer, or lending energy for growth, or doing a spell for them etc.)
🌼 Divination questions about who you’re becoming, where you’re going, how you’ve grown, how much more growing you still have to do
🌸 If you have pets, this is a good time to get them something, like a new squeaky ball or a nice catnip mouse to play with
🌼 Meditating in nature (If you’re like me and live up north and there’s still a foot of snow outside you can meditate indoors. Try using nature sounds in the background, they have loads on youtube)
Witch Tips
Witch tips from a witch who has practiced for many years; here are some of my traditional beliefs as well as things I picked up along the way. 💫
🔮 When foraging, do not forget to thank for what you took. Thanks the gods, the fae, the earth, or whomever you worship, but do not just take.
🌙 Wear beautiful clothes when performing a ritual. Before I get into saying anything else I want to say - There is NO PRICE VALUE which makes the ritual clothes beautiful. They do not have to be expensive, or a certain brand, or from a certain place, or anything of the sort. Just make sure that they are well taken care of and that you think they are beautiful.
🔮 People will rarely understand you, and most do not actually even want to. But the trees. The plants. Animals of the earth. Rivers, still and moving water. The stars and the moon. They understand, they will listen, and if you listen, too, you will hear what you need to and be validated and understood. People alive thousands of years before you have been sharing the same heartbreak, pain, suffering, and struggle with the universe. It understands. It has heard before, and will listen again.
🌙 When trying to meditate, you are not actually doing anything wrong by being unable to “clear your mind.” The goal is not actually to have a blank mind, but an open and receptive one. If a thought pops in suddenly, acknowledge it, dismiss it, and move on. It doesn’t mean you’re not focused or doing it wrong.
🔮 Another note about meditation; there is no shame in needing herbs to achieve meditation. There is nothing wrong with you. Some people just need the extra help, and that is okay! It is also a traditional part of many practices to smoke, ingest, or otherwise consume herbs before a ritual/meditation/journey/etc. This pertains to herbs such a kava, sage, wormwood, mugwort, and cannabis. (Do not use unless you ask a doctor, know it’s safe, and so on.)
🌙 Wisdom is the combination of emotion and logic. To make a wise decision, validate the emotion and why it is being felt, look at the logic and the facts, and combine the information for the answer.
🔮 Do not be discouraged that you cannot find witches (or Wiccans, Pagans, Druids, etc) where you live. We are here. We are all over the world. It is just unsafe in some places to practice openly. But if you look for us, you will find us.
🌙 Intent is the most powerful ingredient you have.
🔮 There are hundreds (if not thousands) or ways to create a sigil, and you can make a sigil hundreds of different ways. This also goes for charging and activating sigils.
🌙 You can practice both black and white magick at the same time.
🔮 Bullying other witches is never a good idea. Obviously, bullying anyone is never a good idea and you shouldn’t, but in my years I have seen over and over again it happen when one witch attacks another and then that witch comes down with horrible luck. That is not just because they were cursed by people who support the witch who was being bullied (which is also a huge risk, and causes a lot of issues and conflict) but the universe knows when a witch attacks another witch, and it doesn’t like that. (This does not include calling someone out in an appropriate way for unacceptable behavior and so on. But when you do it about differing opinions….)
🌙 Never stop researching. You will never know everything.
🔮 Deciding that you want to start to practicing witchcraft does NOT mean you have do denounce any previous beliefs.

here I will leave some very useful tips for those who have been in practice for some time, as well as for beginners. I hope this text will illuminate and help each one on their way! ✨

• to do energy cleaning in your home, put in a glass: water, coarse salt and charcoal. position it behind the entrance door.
• bury egg shells in a pot or in your home garden to ensure abundance and fertility in your home.
• do not put the ashes left over from the incense out, they can be reused in making the black salt.
• burn dry rosemary to attract protection, purification, psychic abilities and openness for healing.
• to attract positive energies to you, spread several mirrors around your home, just avoid those with sharp details on your edge. they also help to clear the mind.
• to ward off any bother that is bothering you, write the key words of the situation on a white candle. light the candle and ask the fire beings to burn this evil that you want to destroy.
• spread blackheads under the bed for protection during your sleep.
• make a wreath with chamomile flower and hang it on the door to protect the environment throughout the year from physical and spiritual damage.
• use cinnamon to improve your individual skill with prophecy through divination, channeling and working with oracles.
• when making your own oils, use olive oil and dried herbs of your choice.
• press and store rosemary leaves in your books. this will increase your wisdom during your studies and your memory, making you learn more easily.
• burn some thyme on your altar to clean up your magic space. thyme when burned with incense strengthens psychic power.
