Ari made a noise of distaste and brought the knife down. It ripped through the fabric as easy as if it were butter.
âWhat am I meant to do with a roll of silk?â She scoffed, dragging the knife through the material. She spun her blade between her fingers and admired her handiwork, lips pursed in thought.
She glanced up at the sound of footsteps, and raised her eyebrows at the unwelcome guest.
âYou want this?â She gestured to the ribbons of silk scattered on the table in front of her. She took a seat, her gaze on the other person expectant.
Carmen was wandering the ship as she usual did, over heardibg bits and pieces of information and storing them away for later use. After a haul like the one they just had , there wasnât much to heard. Some complaining and other praising the goods they received.
Carmen walked up to Ari and saw what they were doing. Seeing the silk in ribbons made her want to both laugh and cry. âAye aye , Arielle sometimes jou can have things just to be pretty. â She sighed picking up the pieces, âBut if jou really donât want it. Iâll take it but know jour part of the reason we canât have nice things.â
âDarling, we can have as many nice things as we want,â Ari grinned at her, âWe need only to take it.â
âWhat are you going to do with silk? Make a pretty little bodice? Some undergarments?â She couldnât keep the sarcasm out of her voice. She picked up one of the ribbons and looped it around Carmenâs neck. âI donât see the point. Now a nice knife or a gunâŚthat I could find some use for.â
âAye CarĂąio, jou then are blind to the possibilitiesâ Carmen smiled as she took the silk from around her neck, âesilk Iâd very estrong, it doesnât rip or break when pulled on.â She gave the ribbons a hard tug, âplus they can be used forâŚoh mierda que la palabra.â Carmen paused, she had forgotten the word she needed, furriowing her brow she looked to Arielle, âWhat you call puntadas?â Carmen made an action as if she was sewing, âWhen jour hurt the doctor does it. â
âStitches?â Ari felt her eyebrow quirk up. âWith silk?â she paused, regarding the woman carefully. âSuppose Iâll take your word for it.â
She sighed and went on, âI suppose youâre well pleased with todayâs haul. What did you manage to get your hands on?â
