I just heard about this movie - At the Place of Ghosts (Sk+te’kmujue’katik) - and I'm super-excited, y'all. It's Mi'kmaw supernatural suspense, and from the trailer I'm getting a strong feeling of the theme "a lot (but not all) of the ghosts are colonialism."
There have been some really interesting and fun horror projects coming from Indigenous filmmakers in recent years, and this one's both made in and about the unceded territory I live on. There's going to be a limited theatrical run soon - May, I think - and I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed that I'll be able to drag a bunch of people to a showing.
Just saw At the Place of Ghosts... I just keep winning with my horror movie watching... this was slow, dreamy horror circling a pitch blackness... which is a weird way to describe it but trust me. It was so good. Go watch it of you like ghost stories, Indigenous horror, familial / trauma / queer themes... You may well cry
