My ships: Helios Vasquez & Nova Atwater

Age is just a number. A popular saying, but one that never held any meaning for Helios. Until recently. Until Nova. Now that saying is starting to make sense. But he can’t help but wonder if it’s really true. Is age really all the inconsequential? Would it not make a difference? Only time will tell.

“Same reason anybody does, I guess.” Niko shrugged, he wasn’t married to the idea, but he’d been considering it on and off for a while now. “Just silence my head for a bit every now and then.”

“You’re know they’re not cheap. You’re very expensive.”

Waylon fought the beginnings of a grin as the man’s face paled, carefully schooling his features into an expression of muted curiosity as he listen to Helios continue. “Mm, most interesting, wouldn’t you think?” He turned his head toward the man at the other side of the table. “I don’t know anything.” He clung to his argument, and Waylon rolled his eyes. “Do you believe him Vasquez? Because I don’t.”

“Oh, I don’t know. It makes perfect sense for someone to risk prison to badly obliviate a fellow wizard.” Helios’s words dripped with sarcasm. 

Smirking, Carter nodded along with all of his comments. She agreed with each one, which surprised her. Apparently he knew more about her than she’d assumed. “Getting warmer.” She said lazily, watching his gaze move further to the right.

“Really?” Helios scanned the crowd. “That one,” he pointed.

“Central Park? New York?” She hmphed, nodding and furrowing her brows. “Isn’t that like, super big? Like, finding a needle in a haystack, big?”

“Exactly. Which is why we haven’t found him.”

“Uh….because I don’t remember what happened.” The man said, as if it were obvious. Waylon pushed off from the wall, clearing his throat. “Funny thing is,” He started, speaking only to Helios and ignoring the other man as he sat next to him. “He knew he had forgotten before I even started asking him my questions.”

Helios nodded once in Waylon’s direction to show he understood. “Whoever obliviated you obviously botched the job. When a person is obliviated, they don’t know they have been because the wizard either implants fake memories or the brain does it automatically. Besides, who would want to obliviate you? You’re a wizard. We’re only allowed to obliviate No-Majs.”

Nova smiled a bit. “Well I guess you do.”

“Work keeping you busy? I’m sure working in the DMLE, you don’t get much free time.”

“Hi, yes, can I have a Tequila neat with a lime?” Anna asked the bartender. She looked over at Helios. “Mind if I sit here?” She pointed to the seat next to the man.

“Not at all,” said Helios. He eyed the woman and then he recognized her. “Hey! It’s the woman who wanted me to obliviate her ex at the ball.”

“Do you know how to get a Pensieve? Is there paperwork or - do you need to get approved? Or can you just…. buy one? Sorry, I’m - I’m not exactly in the loop with these things anymore.”

“Why do you want a pensieve?”

Waylon leaned against the wall, watching, trying to fight a smile as the man squirmed as Helios walked in. Definitely the right man for the job, he only hoped between the two of them they’d be able to get some new information.

“So I hear you’ve been obliviated. Tell me, how do you know you were?”

She nodded, listening quietly as he explained the case to her. This was what she had lived for, when she had been in England. This was what got her blood pumping, excited her, made her want to get out of bed in the morning. She was in his debt for letting her come along, although she would never tell Helios that. “Easy enough.” She replied simply, pointing her wand towards her shoes and transfiguring them into something more sensible, and much more flat. “Where does he live? No, where was he seen last?”

“Central park.” Helios smiled, glad to see she was already enjoying herself.

“Of course it’ll work, so come on, take your best shot.” She smirked. “Which one of ‘em do you think is my type?”

“Hmmm...Let me see...” Helios scanned the crowd. “Not him, he’s too short. Too fat...too creepy...gay...”

“Good. The only good thing about it is it’s cheap, but you can still get wine cheaper.”

“I’d still like a taste. I don’t want a whole fruit cake, just one bit, just so I can say I’ve tried it.”

“I’m pretty sure if I don’t go, my best friend might hole himself up in his house, it’s a way of getting him somewhere,” Nova replied.

“Ah, I see. Well, then I guess I owe your best friend a thank you for getting you out and about.”

“In this case? Both. It’s like knitting and sherry, it’s for grandmothers.”

“I’ve never actually tried it,” Helios admitted.

Daisy smirked, “No, because I bought your birthday gift like two weeks ago. Happy Birthday!” She told him brightly, reaching out to give him a one-armed hug. “Having a great day?”

“So far so good,” said Helios. “So what did you get me? Just a hint?”

“Nope, black is just fine,” Nova replied with a shake of her head.

Helios flagged down a nearby waiter. “One black tea and one hot chocolate, please.” The waiter nodded and hurried away. “So, if you don’t like the cold, what brings you out here?”
