REAL ANS TRUE. I lowkey think they’re doing this anyway just naturally. Charles seems like he’s willing to go crazy and do some shit if it’s for “the greater good (explosions and death to Toppats)”, so I don’t think it’s a matter of lack of will or charles being hesitant, even if he would for more overtly illegal things. I think chaotic good is the best way to describe it as you’ve said- doing something technically good or perhaps somewhat self-serving, but always chaotic, and always for a reason (even if the reason is fun).

I like the idea of Charles helping/condoning his partner thieves whenever they’re stealing from rich people or Toppats or otherwise people he doesn’t really like or think are good! Charles can be hypocritical. As a treat. Most thieves are bad but my thieves only do the worst people :)

Henry and Ellie would I think be great a chaotic good once in the government. They lean chaotic neutral normally without a guiding moral compass, but with Charles, they’d be a secret weapon of the military.

Everyone else has to have the Bowbot revelation explained to them, but MePhone? He just has to take one look at them and he gets it. He LOCKS IN, willing to defend Bot from Ballpoint Pen and later Springy in an instant. His attitude changes so quickly, especially with how clear he is about disliking Bow.

He was kind of warming up to "Bow" in his own stand-offish way before, but everything changes in exactly ONE scene. Suddenly, they just click.

You could say it's because he subconsciously knew Bot isn't one of his own, but neither is Toilet and MePhone is hostile for years towards him.

Is it because Bot and Meef are on some robot-to-robot understanding? Maybe. That would be kind of a lame reason.

Is it because Bot and Meef relate on a "I was created to be one thing, but I became another" level? Well, again, he doesn't know that when he decides to cover for Bot. The instantaneous nature is why it's so intriguing.

And I like to think it's why Bot likes MePhone: they never had to prove anything to him. They didn't need to explain themself. He just understood. Sure, their shared lot in life as creations strengthened that, but there's just something about how MePhone didn't ask questions, and Bot could just be themself without the awkwardness they experienced with everyone else. MePhone drops all his expectations and pretenses right there, and that must have been SUCH a relief for Bot.

Bot brings out MePhone's seldom-seen compassion and empathy. No wonder they were upset they couldn't say goodbye, especially now that they're struggling to speak up and be heard when everything is going to shit. I bet it would be nice to talk to someone who just understands you in that moment.
