Princess Diaries was the best not just because of Mia’s inherent lovability and the queen’s amazingness, but because all the little details and I’d like to take a moment to recognize some of them:
The Genovian staff’s constant facial expressions
Charlotte’s die-hard shipping of the queen and joe
The semi-believable international representation
All the side characters. The bus drivers and the reporter from the tiger beat magazine commenting on the “wet, sort of grunge loom hair do,” and the author neighbor and her ladies maids and the parliament members and the dudes that bang the stick on the ground and announce people
The continuity of string cheese
Paolo. There was no money! Paolo spit on money! …but…there was some money.
I look like a moose. Yes but a very cute moose. Make all the boy moose go HUAAAA
the Prettiest giRL is riding in the STANG
What a pity we missed it at the party
Andrew Jacoby being such a gem of a human and them showing for like the first time in a major movie that you can have a passionate, hopeful kiss, without feeling anything
Them also showing that sometimes advice from your mother can suck (even the maids were confused tbh)
Lilly Moskovitz. Best friend to future queen. I don’t like you. …pleasure.
Mia with the orphans. I feel guilty having two homes while they have none. (And Lilly there as a professional looking support)
Lionel. Laughing when Mia slams Nicholas’ foot. I’m doing a background check on Olivia. *other two step back*
Nicholas’ uncle. All of his lines
Joe’s protectiveness of his girls
Mia and her grandmother’s relationships
The way you can see that while Mia is very much working on her grace and nobility and diplomacy, it’s clear that she is a 21 year old who lived the first fifteen years of her life as a normal American teen
They’re smitten… while playing badminton…where’s my kitten
Elsie Kenworthy. I’d like to tell her what she can do with her eggs
Mia’s clutziness as not being something she grows out of
Nicholas’ growth throughout the film, especially morally
You’ll never be bored, Andrew.
