Hero of Ferelden

So he threw me a playlist of a song that I had been skipping for a long time and never listened to either the text or the music. And then I decided to give her a chance, and the mood was right… As a result, I have a new AU with my characters and my girlfriend's characters. I got a good kick out of it so that we concocted a little story, and I liked it wildly.

After work and additional cases, I decided to try to pull the story inspired by the song onto the canvas. Naturally, nothing happened the first time. I began to think about why it turns out this way? The fact is that I have a general vision of the idea, and not an exact understanding of what I want. Every time I close my eyes, I can capture the mood, the overall color scheme and the main characters. But the composition, the exact little things in the environment and similar things change every time. In addition, the main characters do not have a concept so that the picture acquires accuracy. And I understand that the plot of the image will be as dynamic and complex as possible because of the angles/perspective.

That's why I decided to make sketches in order to find concepts, moods and small changes in our characters for myself. Naturally, I started with my favorite. The first sketches didn't suit me and even upset me. However, something good came out of it, and I was able to slightly bring the sketch from black lines on a white background to a color version with a hint of cyberpunk atmosphere.

Unfortunately, this sketch has nothing to do with the idea described above. But, it seems to me, it will be a good help for my experiment.

My old, but still my favorite job. There was also an experiment with the palette and the first attempt to draw a new character.

It depicts a father and son who have yet to establish relations with each other.

In the evening, tired and dissatisfied with the results of previous tests, I decided to save a quick line and not really delve into the color/detail. I also decided that it would be easier to work in a limited palette and did not lose. The result suits me so far.

I decided to make a quick sketch based on the photo, but a little bigger. I liked that I built the frame quickly enough, without going into the wilds of anatomy. Usually at this stage I fall into the trap of carefully building a model. Of course, there is a failure due to lack of knowledge, and the work goes to the trash, and I'm sad. An unexpected moment was the readable silhouette of a horned woman. At first I thought that my eye was already blurred. Besides, I know what is located and where in the drawing. But no. At work, I showed a picture to a friend, and she immediately considered the idea. Very pleasant :)

Of the minuses: I still don't understand how I would stick to the form, leaving the silhouette as readable. Every time at this stage it is very difficult for me. I can't correctly build a tonality, place accents. I am also confused by the moment with the tonality of things. All this turns into a mess in my head, which is also displayed in the picture. By the way, a lot of work was abandoned and deleted because of this.

Первая моя иллюстриция для Pathologic ZINE. Аглая Лилич (очень люблю этого персонажа) по приезде в город. Это сцена, а не красивые пейзажи. Ее приезд в город - самоубийство, и она ничего не может с этим поделать.Так распорядились Власти. Инквизитор чувствует ту невидимую петлю, что сжала ее шею, и каждый раз проверяет ее рукой.

Вторая моя иллюстрация для Pathologic ZINE. Самозванка и Альбинос в компании Исполнителей шествуют по улочкам города. Если посмотреть на тень от забора, то можно увидеть Призрачную кошку - местный герой детских игр. Может, она нечто большее, чем просто выдумка?
