Our Garden Under Heaven is heavily based on a Clangen save, but please do not anticipate it sticking closely to canon Warrior Cats lore. Names, places, and in-universe laws will vary very greatly, and cannot be interpreted through the lens of canon Warrior Cats. While Clan Generator is used as an inspiration for the story, many liberties are taken in order to maintain the flow of the story.
Our Garden Under Heaven is a slice of life, Biblical-inspired fantasy. It takes place far in the past, and pulls much of its inspiration in story, characters, and setting from Bible stories. The story you are about to read is explicitly about religious trauma and existing within a theocratic society that often affects characters negatively. I am heavily critical of most religion and magical thinking, and this story is made as a partial reflection of past experiences with the church as well as my own complicated nostalgia. This blog is not a place for evangelism of any kind. No attempts to argue or convert anyone will be tolerated, and you will not be given a second chance if I see it.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
You can call me JJ (he/him | in my twenties | ♉️). I consider myself far more of a writer/author than an artist, and this is the first and only comic I have ever made. I have been reading Warrior Cats since I was 8, and playing Clangen for YEARS now. This project began mostly as art practice and a good excuse to try new things and experiment with my art. Please expect plenty of mistakes and inconsistencies with my art style, and be patient with me as I continue to struggle to understand how Tumblr works.

I am also active under the same user in the Clangen Creator Discord, which is a great place to come find me if you want to connect. Otherwise, I don't use social media very much. I do also have a Kofi, which I don't advertise much bc frankly monetizing my art scares me very much. But if you feel compelled to pay me, I won't stop you lol.
Please keep in mind I work a real job outside of this space. I have 3 cats and a partner to feed! I sometimes have to put the comic on breaks in order to make sure I don't run out of steam.

is anyone here very good at troubleshooting huion products.... my display tablet is having an issue registering my pen touch and i don't know whyyyyy TT_TT i've reinstalled my driver, reset my computer, changed my windowsink setting, and replaced my nib and the tablet is still breaking my lines mid-stroke :(((

hi everyone !! don't worry, no one is in trouble ! i'm just working on a new pinned post and wanted to make sure i had an easy spot for people to find answers to basic questions when it comes to interacting with me and this blog.

Can I spam like every post on the blog? - Always! I will not block you for liking every post of the comic. I think it's awesome <3
Can I draw fanart for the comic? - Always!! I love fanart, fan fic, fan theories, ect. In a perfect world, you'd tag me so I could see it, but it isn't a requirement. You can also submit it via the ask box, if you'd prefer.
How do I know if you saw my fanart? - I'll like/reply/reblog it! I DO NOT reblog fanart or non-comic content on days that pages are going up, so it might take some time for you to see me interacting. If it's been a while and you don't think I saw it, you may send me ONE ask as a reminder. Please do not blow my notifs up about it though, and try to give me some grace. I find being hounded about it Very frustrating and hurtful - I'm one guy and I do my best, but cannot guarantee my ability to keep up all of the time. I'm sorry! I do appreciate everything SO MUCH though - it is never ever my intention to miss anything. Often I am taking my time to respond because I want to make sure I have the proper energy to respond with excitement and gratitude, so all of your patience is appreciated.
Are there restrictions on fan content? - Generally, no! Headcanons, OCs, self inserts, fanfics, edits, memes, AUs, ect. do not bother me. My only ask is that we all agree to behave like adults about it. And, as always - if you are comfortable - show me!!! I do reserve the right to tell anyone doing anything I deem inappropriate to stop, but my tolerance level is pretty high. As long as it comes from a place of enjoyment and appreciation, I'm okay with basically anything. If you do have concerns or questions, use the ask box. This also applies to putting the characters into your own comic as easter eggs or background characters - I think it's VERY sweet.

Headcanons, fan theories, shipping, speculation, discussion, your big feelings about the characters, requests for sprites or refs, ect. Tell me how much you hate/love a character. Tell me who you relate to. Tell me who you need to see kiss NOW. Send me any thoughts you have about this comic. Extra special and nice fans sometimes get spoilers in response. DO NOT SEND ME LINKS !!! im not opening a random link put in the ask box. If it's a link to fan content or something relevant, you can ignore this but PLEASE provide some kind of context bc my first instinct is always to delete a weird link.
Am I allowed to do xyz with a character? - Headcanons, theories, and ships that fall outside of canon are almost always fine and allowed. You're allowed to joke about characters. You're allowed to dislike characters. I just don't want to be harassed nor have anyone else harassed about anything. I may correct mischaracterizations or readings that I feel like are flat out wrong if they come up, but I'm very hard to make angry when it comes to this kind of thing. I am so happy people think about my characters and like them enough to try and understand them the way I do. As long as things stay civil and appropriate, you're probably okay. One of the best parts of art is the way everyone's reading can be completely unique to them. I don't want to take that away from anyone. And if you're still worried, you can always send an ask.
Why didn't you respond to my ask? - This one could be for a thousand reasons. There's a chance what you asked may be covered in the comic eventually, and answering it may spoil or soften the impact of it. There's also a chance I didn't see it, or that there's another ask I'm already working on that's so close to it that answering both would be redundant. My inbox gets a little crowded sometimes, and things do start to feel repetitive or it just gets overwhelming and I cannot get to everything. Please know everything does get read and everything - especially your kind words - is so appreciated, even if it doesn't get a dedicated post. I'm only one guy, and in order to make the comic itself, I have to pull myself away from the online side of things often to focus. Please don't take any offense <3 Thank you!
What version of Clangen do you play? - Our Garden Under Heaven is written using an expanded mode playthrough on Clangen's Development branch. It is not modded, but I do often edit my game files to make death more likely and to extend the cooldown period between litters. I have been playing clangen for years and years now so I am pretty comfortable getting in the code and messing around.
Can I tag this blog in my post? - Tentatively yes! Please use discretion though. I love being tagged in posts about inspiration or appreciation, as well as under posts that remind you of my comic/characters (memes, pictures of cats, art, ect.). I probably won't do most tag games/chains, but I'm not going to be mad if you tag me in them. If you're just trying to get in touch with me, I'd much rather you send an ask. You can always tag me in things directly related to the comic though.
Can I DM this blog? - Ideally, no. Mutuals and friends can disregard this, obviously <3 and if I invite you to DM me about something please don't hesitate.
Do you do commissions? - Not at this time! I'm fortunate enough to be able to separate my art from my finances, and intend on keeping it that way for now. My partner - @/capgrascinnamon - does occasionally have his open, so if you'd like to financially support my household and get some really stunning art out of it, please go check him out.
I noticed an error in a page! - You may send me one singular ask pointing out spelling or grammar mistakes on pages. Please do not bother contacting me about missing or incorrect markings, colors, or scars. I work fast, and by the time a page has posted it has typically been finished for months already. I do try to check my work often, but things do fall through the cracks. My honest answer will always be that I kind of... don't care if I forget a scar or accessory in a panel or two, or miss a few stripes on a cat. I have to keep moving forward, and am (trying to be) comfortable letting mistakes exist. I'm only one guy.

On top of her frequent medication and stretches, Little Crow would often meet with The Dreamer for massages. They took her physical health, especially her mobility, VERY seriously. during these appointments, they were able to relax and soothe her muscles, as well as check for changes in her condition.
On top of the medical aspect, it was also a time for the two of them to spend time together. It was a moment of intimacy and connection for the two of them, one that was taken away.
Crow doesn't resent Moonpaw or Moth for their grief - how could she when she's grieving just as much? Still, it's hard to bring herself to burden them with her own problems, so she's let her joint pain worsen over the past few moons.
Here we see her caving in and turning to Silver Sage, taking comfort in the soothing touch and connection with a new cat. It wasn't easy showing him the weaker, less fun side of her. She's a bit surprised he was so willing, and impressed in his willingness to do it even while admitting he isn't very good. His softness and compassion towards her is very appreciated, as is his eagerness to learn.
Olivepaw’s reaction in the latest update sort of surprised me, since up until now she’d seemed to me like the more understanding one between her and her sister. I assume it’ll get explored more in-comic, but can I ask what caused such a strong explosive reaction from her? Has she been insecure about lacking a dad previously? It wouldn’t surprise me since Crow, Honey Fruit, and the MothDreamer kits all have (at least) one, but I don’t remember her being shown to have any problems with it until now lol
Olivepaw is a teenager. She is a very passionate and proud person. She is also very emotional, and very straightforward about her feelings.
She hasn't ever been insecure about not having a father, but that was because she didn't really Need to be. He was dead. She thought all of her family that Was was with her, and no one ever challenged that. When The Dreamer died, she felt like she could share that pain with her friends; because while she never knew the cat who sired her, she certainly Would Have missed him had she gotten a chance to know him. Especially in the Garden, there is a strong emphasis on a parent's relationship to their kits. Parents train their children (or pick the cat who does) and chose their full names. The cats of the Garden do not grow up and leave their parents' sides. They share their lives together.
There's a lot of pain in her reaction to Rubble's existence. It's easy as an outside force to read what Lake says and cross reference that with what has been seen of Rubble. He is textbook awful.
Olivepaw does not know him though, and her only frame of reference for fatherhood comes from the parents of her peers. When she thinks of a father, she thinks of Mulberry Wine, Fisher, Moth to Flame, and The Dreamer. The young cats of the Garden haven't had many truly bad experiences, and she has not seen abuse in a way that would inform her interpretation of Lake's story. She has no reason, in her mind, to believe that Rubble would be cruel to her. She knows lying is usually wrong, she knows a father is usually an important and good thing, and she feels denied a chance to have known him and decided for herself. He might have loved her, after all. And Lake lied about him being dead, so Olive doesn't feel like she has much incentive to believe Lake.
Her feelings are messy and complicated. She once felt very secure in knowing how much her mother loved her, and in her place in the Garden. Now there is another part of her out there, a cat she does not (and is being told she cannot) know. She's idealistic, and her world at home feels shattered. So she builds a version of Rubble that is honest and welcoming, because why would her father be anything different?

⛪️ are they religious or superstitious in any way?

The colony cats mainly follow religious beliefs that is closest to ancestors worship, they believe the stars in the sky are those who’ve passed on.They also believe in spirits, weather from things around them or from cats who’ve past. Charreddawn is for sure religious, but more in the sense that she’s never really questioned the religion and it’s just how she was taught to believe. Unlike Warriors where the healers are the default religious figures, that job main falls to the Star Readers of the said colony. Colony healers are actually done more like a family trade, where it is most common for an older family member to teach a younger member!(Though it is perfectly acceptable to teach someone who isn’t in the family) As for being superstitious, I do think she’d believe in quite a few! Since there aren’t any in the canon of warrior cats I thought I’d share some that I kinda just made up on the spot! Charreddawn would probably believe most of these to a degree(Mainly cause she gets nervous easily!)
*If a owl flys overhead of a cat it’s sign of bad luck to come
*If rot is found on a harvesting plant, the rotting pieces should be removed and placed in a body of water so that it cannot find its way back to the rest of the plant.
*Never enter camp with dirty paws or bad spirits will follow you home
*If you see a tree branch fall, make sure to point it away from camp, or bad luck will fall over the colony
*If you find a snail on a rock circle it 3 times for good luck!

Lots of you have noticed that the older cats in The Garden seem VERY flirty, comfortable, and close with one another. Have you ever wondered why? WELL...
They're swingers <3 While there are established pairs of mates within the group, the Garden's founding adults are very open and intimate with one another.
Every cat out in the desert has their own approach to mates and relationships, so polyamory and promiscuousness can be viewed very differently from cat to cat. For some cats, it's very normal to have multiple established mates. For others, they chose to mate for life. It's also not uncommon for two cats to stay together just for the purposes of having kits, then to part ways. In the Garden, it's very assumed that cats will stay faithful to their partners. However, with a little communication and a lot of enthusiasm, it didn't take long for this group of five to realize they were getting Very Close.
These are all cats who have lived alone most of their lives. Living in such close quarters with the others was bound to stir up complicated feelings somewhere along the line, especially when they're already helping to raise one another's children. Every kit in the current Clan (from Little Crow to the MothDreamer litter) has grown up knowing that the entire Garden is looking out for them. Little Crow was the only kit for some time - they all doted on her constantly. Mulberry and Locust spent a lot of time with Olivepaw and Creekpaw as kits, when Lake was recovering from the birth. The Dreamer and Moth helped watch Honey Fruit when Locust was sick. Lake is incredibly close with Moonkit, Heartkit, and Beetlekit, and stayed in the nursery to help Moth even once her kits were students. The kits know they can count on these older members, and the five of them know they can trust each other entirely.
Whether you want to call them a polycule or not is up to you, but at this point into living together, they all function as one big family so they might as well hook up, mess around, and have fun with it. The best way to describe it is that their relationships are both open, and all five of them are fond enough of each other that they don't mind who their partners are spending time with - whether it be one on one or all of them together.
There will be other cats added into the GardenClan swinger's club as time goes on too :3 this is something I can't really find space for naturally in the comic, and don't feel the need to, but I sincerely hope you find a lot of joy knowing this is just a running undercurrent of the story. I definitely do <3
this is a fucking mess but here's a little chart trying to quickly explain what the dynamics are between them. everything is way more nuanced and complicated than i could get into on it (for space reasons TT_TT this was already so hard to format) but i hope you have fun with it, and end up as invested in this little group as i am. to me this is a very important part of writing the relationships between them all, making sure that their closeness is being showcased even if the cats in question aren't exactly mates in the traditional sense. these cats are a unit and a community, and they love each other fiercely.
For Silver Sage! I feel like I dont know anything about him but I want to
Eelbite, Olivepaw, Creekpaw, and Honey Fruit have a betting pool going about when/if he is going to ask Little Crow out formally. It's painfully obvious that Crow wants him to, and is waiting on it.
Eel thinks he's going to leave. Honey thinks Crow will give up waiting and just Ask Him. Olive and Creek are both team "he WILL ask", but Olive thinks it will happen before the hot season hits its peak, while Creek thinks it won't be until the next rainy season.
Little Crow knows about the bet. It's all in good fun, and they laugh it off easily, but she can't help but wish he would get on with it. It bothers her that he's taking so long, but it's important to her that HE be the one to ask. She knows he has his hesitations about living in a group - mainly that it draws a lot of extra trouble - so they feel like if he asks, it'll be a sign that he's made up his mind. She wants the choice to be His, and doesn't want to rush him or scare him off. But it does make them nervous.
Outside of their little bet, the overall consensus is that Silver Sage is just a big of a coward. He is very nice, and means well, but the cats in his age group do feel like he is the most likely to bail on the group if things get too tough. The fact that he HASN'T asked Crow to be mates yet only feeds into it, bc it feels like he hasn't committed so he can still have an Out.
