a little curious... how do beetle and olive feel about each other, especially compared to their families?
Olive and Creek are both VERY close to their mother, and one another. Being such a tiny family unit makes them fiercely loyal to one another, and they spend lots of time together. Lake adores both of them, showering them with her love and affection, and they return it by being quick to look after her and receive her attention. The two sisters are joined at the hip, and each other's best friends, but they are VERY different. While Creek is very focused (sometimes TOO focused) and tries hard to be practical and down-to-earth, Olive has always had her head in the clouds. Creek is quicker to anger, but Olive is more likely to brood and stay stuck in her emotions. Creek is more stubborn and outspoken, but also better suited for following rules and instructions. Olivepaw is a cat who likes to take things at her own pace - either rushing into things much too fast or refusing to move on from something for much longer than most cats would deem necessary. She is a slave to her emotions and her intuition, and finds signs and meaning in everything around her.
Beetlepaw, on the other hand, grew up feeling quite isolated from her family. While she's caught up in size now, she was born the runt of their family, and always found herself just a bit behind Heart and Moon when they would play together. Too slow, too small, too sensitive. The falcon grabbing Moonkit followed by Heartkit's illness was very isolating to her, and even though her fathers tried to give her all of the time they could, she found herself very lonely in that time, and would have been far more miserable if not for Olive's compassion.
Her family adores Beetle for who she is, but her touchiness is something that many cats around her struggle to take in stride. Before The Dreamer's death, she was closest to Heartpaw. Once he recovered from being sick, they began to prepare for their lessons, play fighting and hunting one another. Moon was the odd one out most of the time, preferring to spend time in The Dreamer's den as opposed to wrestling and chasing her siblings across camp. The Dreamer's death pushed Moon and Heart much closer though, and Beetle can't help but feel like she's been left out of their healing process. Moth and Little Crow are very attention to her, and her siblings do love her, but Beetlepaw has a tendency to isolate herself that makes things... difficult.
Olivepaw and Beetlepaw both feel like the other just Gets Them in a way that their families don't. Beetle looks up to Olive, and takes her intuitions and "visions" of things to come very seriously. Olive appreciates being seen as so wise, and really enjoys Beetle's ability to roll with whatever impulsive adventure she's cooked up for them this time. Beetle appreciates that Olive never seems put off by her shyness or sensitivity, and sees her as a safe spot to retreat to when the rest of the Clan is on her nerves.
Both of them love their families very, very much, but I think they'd agree - The Garden wouldn't be as fun without one another.
