Heath Madsen

Hey everyone, it was great getting to know most of you during my time here. Sadly, I ran into some real-life issues (just my job needing me to stay over like 2-3 hours every day because I’m the only one actually working in my department these days), and I was removed without the possibility of coming back. 

To be honest though, it’s probably for the best. As lovely as a lot of you are, there are some members that made it hard to stay on here. People who didn’t like that I didn’t write my character a certain way or instantly make him fall in love with his endgame partner. Because I wanted to actually develop my character before launching them at someone else’s and just forcing them together despite incompatible writing/story-telling styles and the other person’s inability to contribute plotting ideas. I was called a bully, told that I make people uncomfortable, and treated like I was an idiot when I followed the rules as were stated and spoke to the admins rather than carry out a fight in public forums like an angry 14-year old on Facebook. 

Not being able to come back has actually lifted a huge weight from my chest and I feel so much less stress. So, thanks Moxie, for making me uncomfortable and then telling me I needed to suck it up and deal with it because I am apparently horrible and my feelings are less than yours and your friends’. Thank you, Marie, for all your hard work on the RP, which I always appreciated, but also thank you for having someone come at me for you, lie to me and say you were going to approach me about it (I know you weren’t, and I have the proof for it). I really loved all your passive-aggressive responses and your defensiveness, which carried on even after I was kicked out of the rpg and just asked an innocent question on if I could re-apply (just needed a yes/no answer, not a rundown of why you think I’m a shitty roleplayer). Oh, and thank you to the Penelope player, who just ignored me because I didn’t think it made sense for my awkward, stand-offish character to just blindly kiss someone at a masquerade ball. I’m sorry that I wanted a slow burn ship, and you decided that it was either quickly together or nothing. 

Don’t get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed a lot of you. You guys were amazing, and I think once the clique problem is taken care of, once egos are checked and the tyranny ended, then this is really gonna be such an amazing and welcome group.

Oh, and for anyone that doesn’t know, I was accused of bullying Marie in the OOC blog. I looked back at the posts, and I actually never made fun of Adrian’s character. I made fun of my own character’s responses to him. But I guess Marie didn’t find it funny, Moxie got mad at me for it... I had no idea what was going on, but it was very clear this was something they had gossiped and talked about for quite some time. Despite how uncomfortable I was, despite being told that I was a terrible person and a bully who was now being ridiculous for daring to have my own emotions, I decided to just do what I was told. But I really haven’t been welcome here for the last month. So there’s the full story. 

If you want to stay here, just make sure to compliment Moxie and Marie a lot. Make sure to be nice to them as much as possible and praise Adrian and Aurora as the flawless king and queen of this roleplay. They’ll love you, let you break and bend some rules. If you’re looking for an open place though, let me just remind you that a modern Greek rp idea is not a new or original idea, and you have other options. You don’t have to bow down to an admin. The players make the rpg, not the other way around.

I actually haven’t joined it, and I might not just because I need a break after having to deal with this one, but Teagan played Eric Dupoint/Eros here. She’s been a very good friend of mine for the last 6 1/2 years and has run several successful rpgs. Since her character was a close friend of Adrian’s and Aurora’s, she never experienced their muns’ hostility, but she witnessed it with me before I even was confronted, along with several other players, and she’s passionate about making groups a fair and welcome place for everyone, not just who’s close friends with the main admin.

after one more of what seemed to be countless late night trainings, clarissa felt like some liquor would actually help her loosen up a little. so, here she was, shamelessly walking alone into a bar on a tuesday evening, of all days. once inside, she noticed that most people were either too engaged in cnversations or their cell phones, so she opted to sit at the bar right beside the pool table. “bourbon, please.” she quickly said at the bartender without even thinking twice about it. she wasn’t there to drink champagne. with her drink now in her palm, her gaze wandered to the table, where the man in front of her had just lost the ball by a long shot. the expression didn’t falter on her features. a soft chuckle appeared on her lips, amused by how intoxicated he was while still trying to play. “your stick is too many degrees off. you’ll never get it if you don’t straighten your posture.” she commented, before taking a sip of her drink.

The cursing immediately caught her attention, but the face did surprise Hayley. He was incredibly handsome, so, off-guard, she asked instinctively: “Excuse me?” Hayley looked over the Billiard table and tilted her head. Was he losing to himself? She approached him after shrugging once, unsure whether he’d allow her presence or not. “Are you alright?” she did sound worried now. 

Heath looked up from his loss to see a blonde woman heading his way, actually looking concerned. Somewhere inside him, a part that still seemed sober, wondered if he was really too drunk at this point... But it was just soft whispers lost in the depths of all the vodka tonics he’d consumed in the last couple of hours. “Just, uh... Losing to myself,” Heath smiled, trying to appear a little bit normal at least, “Sorry... F’ cursing... Cussing? Whatever you say.” 

Phillip chuckled, “Yes, apparently I can be. I’ve been told doctors don’t like being told they are wrong about a patient.” He was generally pretty quiet at work, he didn’t rock the boat. But every once in a while he would publicly criticize a doctor for their choice of treatment. He would often get in trouble for it. “No, offense to doctors of course.”

Odette glanced up from where she had been sitting at the bar and taking notes. Most people would never think of studying in a bar. But for Odette it was different. She was so used to the smell of alcohol because of her father that her clean new apartment had seemed strange to her. It was stupid, but being all alone in a new city, she had decided to seek whatever comfort she could. And the bar had been her best option. She had nursed the same cocktail she had ordered when she walked in, and was immersed in her notes. The people in the background served as an almost comforting presence, so it was no surprise that she found herself leaving her notes and simply observing everyone around her. Particularly the man who was clearly drunk and was trying to play pool.

She couldn’t help but giggle at his attempt to get the ball in the pocket. “Your aim was off.” She said to the man. The stool she occupied was right next to the bar so she didn’t have to speak loudly for him to hear.

“Don’t you normally have an opponent for this?” Amy leaned against the pool table, eyeing it curiously. She had never been one for games but she was pretty sure she’d usually seen two people playing the game. “Although you don’t seem to have much luck tonight so maybe it’s just as well you’re all alone.” 

“I don’t need one,” Heath dismissed, waving one hand in the air as if batting away a fly, “I don’t need anybody.” Including a new, fully grown brother. The thought made him frown. “I need... Another drink.” 

Doug picked up to the pints of beer before he walked over to Heath. He smiled slightly as he placed a beer down in front of him before he took a mouthful of his beer. Doug leaned back on the pool table. “I was wondering where our missing Medical Examiner had wander off too.” Doug said with a smirk as he shifted his eyes as he watched Heath miss the shot. “So have you been sulking here all day, or is this just one stop on what I am smelling  of  many bar crawls?”

Heath stood up straight, frowning slightly at the sight of his co-worker. He didn’t want to think, and yet here was someone to remind him that he was running away from all his responsibilities. “I’m sure no’ne’s missed me,” Heath slurred, leaning against his pool stick for support. He regarded the beer put in front of him for only a second before he picked it up and took a tentative drink, watching Doug. “Only place for tonight. Everywhere else’s too pretentious.” 

“It seems to be popular. You should definitely try it though! And I think it’s in the same realm as hiking, just with more upper body strength.” She had strong arms, which tended to come in handy when she was giving intense massages. “We should sign up!”

Heath was quite surprised that this stranger was actually considering signing up with him. Though he supposed it wasn’t that big of a deal considering there weren’t exactly partners in rock-climbing -- at least as far as he knew. “Alright,” Heath smiled, “Let’s sign up. I need more upper-body strength anyways.” 

“Fuck,” Heath cursed under his breath. The last couple of days had been a blur. He hadn’t been to work, avoiding his problems quite literally. And instead he aimed to distract himself with the soundtrack of a dive bar on a Tuesday evening. The soft murmur of distant conversations, occasionally broken by a quick, boisterous laugh. The clinking of pint glasses as the bartender served patrons yet another round. Some song by The Cure playing in the background at the jukebox... 

Heath... Well, to say his life had been better would be a vast understatement. With his latest family drama leaving him reeling, there was only one person he felt he could turn to, one person who knew his family life so well. Maxine... Well, Heath had hinted at his relationship with his father, but it wasn’t something he wanted to talk about with her. How could he complain about having a father that was at least there and willing to pay him while hers had ditched out so long ago? Peyton, however... She would understand. And it was her calming presence that Heath needed in that very moment. He had sent her a text asking to go out for tea later in the afternoon. Being the good friend he didn’t quite deserve, she was there for him in an instant. 

Settling into the Gentry cafe, Heath gave a small sigh and smiled at the dark-haired woman across the table. “I’m almost wishing I invited you to a bar instead,” Heath said, “I might need something heavier to drink after today.”

Hazel looked over her shoulder and gave the man a smile. “Sure! I think it sounds fun too.” She took a step to the side, allowing him room to step up to the bulletin board where the neon green flyer was hanging. “I’ve been indoor rock climbing before but I think a class would be great.”

“I haven’t even been indoor rock-climbing. There was one at my old gym, but it was always crowded,” Heath said, reading over the flyer. “I like to hike though. Rock-climbing would just be a more intense version of that right?” 

It had been a text he was mulling over for three days. That entire time, he could feel it burning through his phone and pockets, finding its way to his heart and gripping it with the cold, clammy hands of dread. I’ll be in Los Angeles this Sunday, it read, You’ll meet me for lunch at 1 sharp. We have things to discuss. There was no question, no request. Heath wasn’t being asked, he was being told where he’d be on Sunday afternoon and that was enough to make his fists shake with rage. How could he be affected this much? Still? After all the progress he’d made in the last ten years, or even just the last four months? 

Heath tapped his fingers nervously on his lap as he sat in the nice restaurant. He had shown up too early by nearly half an hour, his nerves on end. What could their discussion possibly be about? How could he possibly expect to sit through a meal with this man? 

“Well, you’re quite early,” the man of the hour called over to Heath, his voice reeking with confidence and ease, all  of which Heath lacked at this moment, “At least one of my lessons seemed to have gotten through to you. Though you should stand up and look a little more animated when your own father arrives.” 

He didn’t stand, rolling his eyes. “I see Diane isn’t here,” he commented curtly, “Don’t tell me there’s trouble in paradise... Again.”

Heath’s father smirked, identical to his son’s. His dark hair was beginning to gray, deeper wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, and he was wearing glasses now. Heath hadn’t realized how much his father aged since he last saw him, nearly six months ago in an argument that resulted in him storming out of his childhood home and looking for a job to take him far away from that man. “No, she decided this would be a better reunion without her,” Christopher Madsen said, “She may be young, but she’s smart. There will, however, be a new guest joining us.” 

The younger man’s brow furrowed in confusion. He watched his father watch the door of the restaurant -- nervously? Was he nervous? Who could this possibly be? 

Hazel looked up and down the bulletin board she stood in front of, examining all of the little notes that adorned it. She was looking for something new to do and hoped that she might find an ad for a class or something between the lost animal flyers and the roommate wanted notes. “A group rock climbing class could be fun,” she murmured to herself as her eyes landed on a flyer advertising just that.

Heath was never one for reading bulletin boards. But as he was walking by, he heard a “group rock climbing class” and his interest was piqued. He stopped, standing a few feet behind the young woman and trying to peer over at the flyer. “Sorry, excuse me,” he said politely, “Could I get a look of that? That sounds like something I could get into.”
