I think Ilya tries one time to explain the concept of "e-sports" to Shane and Shane gets so mad they have to actually put him in time out in the snow-covered backyard so he can calm down. Shane breaks at that, exhaling a laugh as he rolls his eyes and readjusts himself on the couch across from Ilya. "OK, yeah, I was inexperienced but I wasn't innocent."

I think one day it storms at the cottage, a huge, heavy thunderstorm that makes the air feel charged even before the rain starts. It picks up energy as it moves across the lake until the atmosphere inside and around the cottage is affected, electric. The wind whips the trees and pushes on the windows and yanks at Ilya's hair and steals the breath from Shane's lungs as they bring in the last of the chairs from the patio, right before the sky opens up. They shut the sliding door quickly, but they’re not faster than the pelting raindrops that splatter the windows, their feet, the floor. Shane laughs, feels breathless and wild, wants for a moment to run out into the rain and yell back in an answer to the thunder’s daring roar. But then he sees Ilya, storm-blue eyes and thunderbolt grin lit up in the gloomy gray from the lightning outside, the flash of a photograph, a perfect memory for Shane to keep.
“Your feet are wet,” Shane says, grabbing a towel left out after their swim earlier in the day. He goes to his knees, a job to do. Ilya's skin is cool to the touch, but the towel is dry and Shane's hands are warm like they’ve soaked up the last bit of sun before the storm. Shane lingers at Ilya's feet, presses a kiss to his ankle, his shin, his knee, looks up to see Ilya illuminated by yet another crack of lightning, and this time he’s not a memory but a god, some powerful deity who brought Shane to his knees in supplication. Shane turns his cheek into Ilya's thigh, feels blessed by the touch of Ilya's hand in his hair.
The storm outside throws its tantrum, angry to see Shane on his knees for Ilya instead of it. Shane hardly notices. He has Ilya's hands in his hair and Ilya's heartbeat on his tongue and Ilya's groans in his ears. Shane's eyes take in only Ilya, the full unholy reality of him: not a memory or a god but a living, breathing, pulse-pounding man, moaning and shuddering apart on Shane's tongue, more honest and wild and beautiful than the storm that rages outside.

I just know that Shane was one of those kids who didn't speak til three and when he did he busted out a full sentence one day and that sentence was, "Jason stole my FUCKING crayons" followed by a WHAP as Shane hit Jason and Jason hit the floor and Yuna and David were summoned immediately to the school to have an Important Conversation and David sat there the entire time staring at Yuna out the side of his head because Shane did NOT get those "interpersonal skills" from the mailman and Yuna's only response to the entire conversation was, "Well.
