For most of my life, I’ve had to fight the idea that I’m nothing more than someone to throw away, or pass around as needed, or that I’m not capable of being real help because I’m a girl. But I came to understand that I was the same person the whole time. I’m loved now, but when I wasn’t, it didn’t mean I wasn’t worthy of it. No one but you is allowed to dictate what you’re worth.

I feel so lucky and I am so excited to see what happens next but right now, I don’t know. All I can feel is this shadow. And I wish my dad were here to see where I am, see where I’m going. But I know that the only reason that I’m here is because Liz and I lost him and sometimes I don’t know how to square that. I don’t know if I can handle paying that kind of price. Everything is all tangled. The good stuff, the bad stuff.
